When real artists cover this song, they do it out of respect - realizing that the original vocals simply cannot be matched. Folks, this is straight up talent - no auto tune. This is magic.

Barry , in the middle, is the oldest of four brothers. The other two in this group, The Bee Gees, are twins, Robin in the left and Maurice (pronounced like Morris) on the right. They have written more number one songs than almost anyone else in the industry, and they have written tons of songs for other singers. The youngest brother, Andy, had a short but successful solo career before his death at the age of 30. Sadly, Barry is the only one still living, even though he’s the oldest. They are one of the best groups of all time in my opinion, and their harmonies can’t be beat.

I grew up with the Bee Gees, & you have no idea how happy it makes me, to see the younger generation discover the music we fell in love with !!! Barry Gibb, in my opinion, has the best falsetto voice ever, & what makes it so incredible, that in his falsetto, he also used his vibrato, which is very rare! Thank you so much for this, they were brothers, & Barry is the last one, but please review more of their music, you will not be disappointed, & they span over years, & crossed many genres :) And you are so right, this time in music, the songs were talking to women, and not at them, there is a big difference & me being a woman, I will always appreciate the talking to women :)

There was a 3rd younger brother? I thought there were only these two (on each side of Barry), and a sister. Anyway, yes, very sad indeed. In case no one else has mentioned it, B.G. = "Brothers Gibb" = BeeGees. I do feel that it's likely that, live or not here, studio vocals were added afterward, that is, this taping of the singing of the song with orchestra was live in a studio sense, but I wonder if it was not put onto the airways only after additional vocals were added. Just wondering! Maybe not at all. EDIT: Yes! Andy, Maurice, & Robin. Wow.

Their family was very poor and when their dad discovered they could sing, he started pushing them to perform when they were only children. Their earlier songs didn't make use of falsetto, they started that around the mid 70s. I don't think anyone does it better, Barry's falsetto is just off the chain.

@kwanshiyin
@kwanshiyin 4 жыл бұрын
@@trudyjoejenkins9357 That is true, but a big part of why they wanted to sing and perform was to create another reality from the one in which they moved every few weeks to stay ahead of the bailiffs and shoplifted for food. They had no friends their own age, they were always performing. They were aged 9 (Barry) and 6 (the twins) at their first performance and dropped out of school at 15 and 13 to perform full time.

They are all brothers. The one singing lead is Berry Gibb, born in 1946. Robn (long blond hair) and Maurice are fraternal twins born in 1949. They started their group in 1958 so they had a very long career. This performance is a live at The Music for UNICEF Concert: A Gift of Song. The concert was a benefit concert of popular music held in the United Nations General Assembly in New York City on January 9, 1979. It was intended to raise money for UNICEF world hunger programs and to mark the beginning of the International Year of the Child. The Bee Gees donated the song to UNICEF, and it raised about 11 million for UNICEF. Where was I when I first heard this song? I was in the US Army stationed at a base in Vicenza, Italy. I remember dancing to it at the NCO club.

Yes, they were brothers. I think that's probably why they sounded like one voice. From left to right: Robin Gibb, Barry Gibb, Maurice Gibb. They began singing in the 50s in other bands, but the Bee Gees (originally BG's) formed in the 60s because of their harmony. They were really big in the 60s and 70s. They wrote all of their own music as well as for many other artists. They were really talented, I love their voices. Smooth like ice on ice, only warm, lol. They were the 3rd most successful artists on the Billboard charts, following The Beatles and The Supremes. I was a kid when I first heard them, and I was a HUGE fan. I've always loved the Bee Gees, they are soooo talented. I'm really glad you got to hear them. Check out their other work like Nights On Broadway and Love You Inside Out. You won't be disappointed.

Their harmony is so exceptional partly because they are all brothers, ....that's what BeeGees stands for....the Brothers Gibb,....Barry in the middle, flanked by the twins, Maurice Robin. I agree completely about those classic songs of the past , where there was actual musicality and quality to the songwriting and performance. In their case, not only did they enjoy great success in performance, they were also songwriters for other artists ...Dionne Warwick, Barbara Striesand, Kenny Rogers, Diana Ross, etc.... at one point, in 1978, they had 9 songs that they either wrote or performed that were on th Billboard top 100 . They won 8 grammies total (including legend and lifetime achievement awards), and sold over 200million albums during a career spanning over 4 decades.

Great reaction The brothers started as kids as someone also mentioned below. They used practice in their room with cans on top of brushes so they looked like microphones. Barry tells the story of their parents coming home and hearing music from upstairs. The grandparents were looking after them at the time and the parents said "Oh is the radio on" The grandparents said "No it is your boys singing in their room". Barry must have been about 9 and the twins Robin and Maurice about 6. Shortly after in 1955 in Manchester they had their first stage appearance in a local movie theater were kids could go up and sing in the breaks. Their last studio album came out in 2001. The only one still alive is Barry and he is now 73, and due to release an album in 2020 if the crisis permit it. The last he made was in 2016. From this album "In The Now" you could react to either "Home Truth Song" or maybe "End Of The Rainbow" which was a song he wrote for his brother Robin and introduced it to him while he was in coma shortly befor he died. Barry is certain the Robin was aware that he sang it for him eventhough he was as said in a coma.

The first time I really started to like the Bee Gees was in 1997 when 'Alone' was released as single. That song made me fall in love with their music and I've been a fan ever since. But the first song I particularly could remember (before being a fan) was 'Spicks and Specks' and not knowing it was the Bee Gees. The melody was back then constantly in my head since childhood, but I can't remember where and when it happened. After I found out it was the Bee Gees it immediately made sense why it was stuck in my head all the time.

3 brothers just began "organically" harmonizing at about 6 (twins) and 9 (Barry) in Manchester England, then Australia, then back to England, then to U.S. Barry only one still living, Maurice died in 2003 and Robin in 2012. Phenomenal harmonies! Amazing career! Fabulous music! Barry Gibb and Paul McCartney are top two song writers in Guiness World Records!

I was born in 1971 so I was a kid during the Bee Gees disco era, my aunt who was only 4 years older than me had posters of them all over her room and had most of their albums, so grew up listening to them and their younger brother Andy Gibb. I don't think I've ever heard another group do harmonies that well. Amazing vocalists and songwriters.

Recorded live, one take, total perfection. And, they donated all proceeds from this song to UNICEF. The center one Barry, is the only one still with us, Robin and Maurice, all brothers have passed, they were the youngest. Another brother, even younger, had a singing career and he also has passed. Bee Gees ( Brothers Gibb ) were my greatest group all my life. Thanks for the reaction. Check out Fanny, Words, Gotta get a message to you, Run To me, Massachusetts, or any other of their songs. They wrote 3 number one songs in a 24 hour period! They wrote over a 1,000 songs, could sing, write and play instruments of all sorts. Blessed!

he Gibbs were, in my opinion, the most multi-talented families in music history. They wrote their own songs as well as writing songs for many other musical greats. In 1967, they wrote a song called To Love Somebody which appeared on their third album titled BeeGees 1st, but their first internationally, as the first two albums were only released in Australia. BeeGees 1st was released in July '67. Otis Redding was set to record To Love Somebody on his next album. Sadly, Otis was killed in a plane crash, Dec 10,1967. I thought for the longest time that they didn't record it themselves until after the death of Otis Redding. Their brother Andy Gibb had a very successful solo career as well until his death on March 10,1988. Just 5 days after turning 30. Andy had developed myocarditis, inflammation of the heart, which was brought on by a viral infection While most people recover from myocarditis, Andy's body was unable to fight the infection due to his history of drug use. Soo sad!

We danced to this song over and over and over. Still my very fav BeeGees song, and he plays it for me quite often. Our lives took different paths over the years but we reconnected about 3 years ago and are still best friends. ❤️

I first heard this in 1978 when it was released. I was 16 years old but I wasn't a Bee Gees fan as I wasn't into this kind of music at the time. Now looking back I can really appreciate it. These days I just like good music and good musicians and these guys were extroadinary vocalists and musicians.
