The school year is winding down in a small Montreal suburb. I file into the old gym with dozens of my 6th grade friends for whatever this sock-hop thing is. True to the name, shoes come off and the boys and girls line up on opposite sides of the gym chatting and giggling with excitement and nerves. Any uncertainy of what to do next evaoporates as "You should be dancing" pounds out of the decades old speakers. We all surge to the middle of the floor with glee, limbs flailing in our best disco flair. Worried thoughts of a slow dance and it's requisite awkward crossing the floor and extending my hand to my crush are long gone. We meet in the middle, smiling and snapping our arms into the air. Best of 1977 memories. Thanks Bee Gees!

Bee Gees had more than just a few Pop hits, with Robin being the lead vocal on a lot of them. They basically had TWO careers. After a few years of not recording and going through tribulations in the early Seventies, they came back better than ever. Barry changed his voice, taking lead on most of the Disco songs, Saturday Night Fever came out, and the rest is history.

Apparently the disco sound started, or at least was popularized, by the Beegees and then basterdised by commercialism. I think that's what ruined disco. Not that it was a bad sound but that when you have a person in a duck suite singing like a duck and releasing an album with disco in the name, yeah that's gonna have a lot of people questioning the legitimacy of the sound.

I grew up to become a metal chick eventually, but I will always love and appreciate all kinds of music, especially the Bee Gees. Not just for nostalgia reasons, but because they are some of the greatest talent to ever write, record, or perform. Looking forward to more reactions from their incredible catalog.

RIP Andy, Mo, and Robin. you were such a big part of the soundtrack of my youth. Godspeed Barry, how you're still able to tour without your brothers would be undoable for the 99% of us all.

There were some great musical contributions during the disco era. Sure, many were corny examples of art but then you had timeless creations like this. I was never a Bee Gees fan back in the day but as I got older I began to appreciate their songs.

Takes me back to my disco days dancing under a mirror ball!! You can't sit still listening to this. Loved doing the line dances too! The Bee Gees were always great! Don't forget to listen to their older stuff. That's what made them famous. I STARTED A JOKE was a great one. 1941 MINING DISASTER is another. They have a great list for you to go through. Bee Gees known for their disco music… but they’re SO MUCH more. They wrote and recorded so many songs.. and many, many for others too. The 60s-70s and early 80s.. best music ever!! Great reaction.. thanks!

i was watching another reaction channel the other day, when an older black gentlemen said to his son that disco was so popular because the music was funky enough that black people wanted to dance to it but fast enough that white people were _capable_ of dancing to it

You should watch the movie Saturday Night Fever to fully appreciate the BeeGees contribution to the biggest selling motion picture soundtrack of all time. This movie, music and style was huge when it came out. Parents dropped the kiddies off at Star Wars, while they caught the Fever instead. 🔥🔥🔥

A lot of artists try to look 'cool,' or 'important,' or to set some trend. No one had 'handlers' or PR people. The whole point of the rebellion that rock led was that we were supposed to have less pretense and more honest authenticity. So back then everyone was doing a better job of just enjoying being *themselves.* Look at how much fun that band was having during that performance. Now it feels like it's more about the audience and the 'show,' than the 'artist's' and their 'art.'

The move works for this song because it was choreographed for John for THIS song in Saturday Night Fever. Unfortunately whoever put this together cut it right when he started to do it. You REALLY should review all the songs on this soundtrack. It's still one of the highest grossing soundtracks ever.

The 70's were such an eclectic mix of great music. The BeeGees have an equally diverse selection of music. You should check out some of their older stuff "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" , "I Started a Joke", etc. So much talent. All are gone except Barry Gibb.

I love this because Andy Gibb is in it, which b4 he died he was supposed to become the 4th Bee Gee. Also John Travolta is in it. They said it took him a year to get those dance moves right

You'll notice that there's a fourth singer in this video, his name is Andy Gibb, the youngest brother of Barry, Maurice and Robin Gibb. Andy Gibb had is own solo career and had a few hits before his death in 1988 from a heart virus due to cocaine abuse, he was only 30 years old. A list of his songs were, "Shadow Dancing", "I just Want To Be Your Everything", "Don't Throw It All Away" and "Love Is Thicker Than Water". I really love watching him perform here with his brothers, I'm sure Barry looks back on it fondly and thinking how great it was that they were altogether on stage. This was a great reaction guys, thanks!
