Beekeeping 101: How to Transfer from Langstroth to Layens Frame

2 жыл бұрынTransferring a Langstroth bee frame to fit a Layens hive. This seems like an aggressive process but, I assure you the bees were right back to work when I was done and now they have a properly set up hive. For my first time doing this process, it was fairly simple.

I see you are going the full length and placing in the center of the frame. How had that worked for you since it's been a year? I'm going to make the conversion but was going to do the other way that most do.

this hive is SUPER strong, already caught a swarm off it a couple of weeks ago and likely making three nucs from it as well. Works well.

I thought you were not supposed to change the orientation of the cells. The bees construct them with a slight incline to hold the contents.

They were still in the same orientation, just placed in different frames. With that said, a nuc box is not the same as a full hive. At that stage, the orientation doesn't matter as much as having the proper amount of empty frames on each side of the nuc frames when placing them in a new hive box. BTW, the hive has since been split into 3 hives, survived the winter, and are very strong. Thanks for the great question.
