Hi Pavel ~ , I saw until the end. I have a question. Is it OK to insert a cigarettes to the hive on the small metal dish, it will work the same way, bees will flap their wings due to smoke, which will have the same effect of inserting smoke into the hive by the smoker, which you did.

Thanks for another great video. I’m a little confused... in a previous video I thought it was stated that caging the queen would cause the bees to create queen cells to replace the caged queen. The positive effect is that the brood cycle is broken and more honey is collected. Ultimately, after the virgin queen emerges and mates, the bees will kill the caged queen. In this video the queen is caged and ultimately released. Does this mean that, after a couple of days, you have to check for and destroy emergency queen cells?
@AnnaKra
@AnnaKra 4 жыл бұрын
That can happen, but unlikely to happen. Only if she drops an egg through the cage. Yes, you can check if you like for queen cells.

Also, we are only caging her for about 15 days or so here. For honey we cage her for about 30 days.
@georgegarcia5052
@georgegarcia5052 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your answer! Another follow-up. Do you take into account the nectar flow when caging the queen for honey production? For example, would April be a good time to cage the queen as that is the swarming season? During the 30 days the hive should be decreasing in population as the queen cannot lay eggs. That still gives two or three months of the nectar flow to grow in population? I don’t recall if this was mentioned in your videos, all of which I’ve watched, but will caging the queen also help with swarm prevention, especially since you use one brood box? Thanks!

I see you’re fairly close to your neighbors, do any have swimming pools close? If so, how do you keep your bees from going to neighbors pool?
@AnnaKra

None of our neighbors have pools. Sorry, we wouldn't know how to help. Other than maybe putting a different water source close to the hives. Thank you for watching!

Hi I am wondering if you know if Neem oil is harmful to bees I know that it kills spider mites and head lice so was thinking that it might be really good for treatment of varroa mites what’s your thoughts I think I am going to give it a try with a swam I catch in the spring I will use it with coconut oil and use muslin clothes
@AnnaKra
@AnnaKra 3 жыл бұрын
I would do some research first, I'm not sure if there is any info online about it, but if there are studies that suggest neem oil helps with that I would go for it. Personally, we have not tried it. Thanks for watching!!

Hi Anna! Hope you and your daddy's colonies are coming through winter strong and healthy! Thus far we have only lost 1 colony. It has been a very mild winter for all the south. This winter I happened upon a NATURAL beekeeper by the name of Dr. Leo Sharashkin who promotes TREATMENT FREE bee keeping in Layens hives. Please pull him up on HORIZONTAL HIVE.COM and hear him out. HOPE you and ur daddy do some more videos asap weather permitting. 😍 Btw Dr. Leo is a native of Russia. 😀
