wonkey comb is burr comb according to university of Minnesota bee lab under Marla Spivak - Gary Reuter in his demonstration on building comb. They work great for bee as ladders but is not good when inspecting comb just to scrape out or Randy Oliver knows people in Chile that press it to the bottom of the comb panel to reuse back on the frames.

Thanks for taking the time and effort to share; although, I was surprised by your comment of 3500 cells of capped brood. If you have honey and pollen on the frame, then there can't be 3500 cells of capped brood, especially with the video showing not all cells were capped with brood; noting, yes, you have an excellent queen brood pattern which was the intent, understand.

New beekeeper here, subscribed to your channel and been watching your videos to educate me, excellent content! I've made a series of mistakes as expected but I am learning with trial and error. A big mistake was I put a new package in a new box and was counting on my bee suit to show up before I got the bees but as luck would have it, it was three weeks late and so I was late on removing my queen box from the hive. The bees are doing fantastic but the extra space caused them to fill a whole frame with brood that is outside of the frame only attached to the lip of the frame, when I removed it, it detached and crumbled to the ground. I got most of the bees back in the hive but now the frame on one side is empty except a partial comb in the corner that is also to wide. I was able to push the frames closer together but not completely because I didn't want to destroy the remaining bit of comb and or injure the queen if she happened to be on it. Should I go back in and remove that last piece of comb so I can properly fit the frames together so as not to have the same problem happen again? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

As for smoker fuel I use dry horse and cow turds, they light easy, stay lit good and make a lot of cool smoke. It's just fine ground grass fiber compacted very tight.

When I add a 2nd BB I lift off the occupied one from the floor, add the new box and put the first one on top. I do this when the first box is at 8 frames of brood and no need at all to faff about queen finding. Why complicate what is about the simplest manipulation there is?

Hi David, Question: My husband and I took our county club's beginning beekeeping course and due to our age, decided that we would use 8-frame medium boxes - except for our bottom brood box. We received and installed our 2 nuts a week ago, and will be doing our first inspection today! I expect to find that we'll need to add a super, hopefully on both the colonies. However we are wondering if we should go ahead and add 2 medium supers per colony, or just 1? Because of your tips in this video, I think we should just add 1 medium super per colony, wait until they've built up frame and brood, and then perhaps insert the second super in between the original deep and the medium super that we'll be adding today. Do you have any recommendations? And thank you so very much for your content - you've answered so many questions I didn't even know I had!

Yes, the video explained it, but when 5-7 frames are drawn out with bees and resources I add the next box. Not all my hives have 2 deeps but most.

I added a 2nd deep last year when my bees had 5 good frames in the 1st deep, but they have just chimneyed up and not done anything with the frames on the outside edges. I suspect I did it too late in the year last year. They appear to have survived the winter thanks to the winter be kind but I feel like I ought to consolidate them into one deep but the fields are yellow with dandelions so I wonder if it wouldn't be best to just leave them alone and see if the spring flow causes them to draw out comb and spread out.
@beek

Yes, the best time of the year to get frames drawn out is during the first heavy nectar flow. After that, it's hit and miss.

Installed my first two nucs last Friday morning. The first nuc was crammed full of bees. Couldn't smoke them down as they didn't have room to move down. So, should I have put a second deep on immediately? Yes, all 5 frames in the nuc were heavy. The second nuc had room (half to 2/3 the bees of #1). However, it is drinking the sugar water well over twice as fast.
