Hi, I’m in the UK and our problem is not the heat but the wet, miserable weather that we have this summer. It’s worrying because they’ve been very inactive on wet days.🇬🇧

I added a brood super with foundationless frames with wire, the bees started building from the bottom up so today I swapped the bottom super with the bottom. Also been feeding the bees with the burns feeding board.

Thanks so much for all the fantastic info! I have just had to deal with a robbing situation when trying to perform a walk-away split in late June. It was horrible! I couldn't salvage the new "split".

Bees were very defensive today, just like you said. Constantly in my face and got stung 3 times thru gloves & pants. But I guess heat makes me cranky too!

Is there a way to keep a mated queen like a pet in a bug cage until you have a place to give her a hive? If you somehow end up with an extra queen because you thought you needed a queen and then you didn’t? I don’t want to just kill these queens. Couldn’t you just have a nice bug cage with some pollen, some nice sugar and the attendants she came with and she could just wait? Will she just get to the point that she just doesn’t lay anymore? Because she went too long without laying?

I've tried it and we call it banking queens. It's a bit iffy on how long you can bank a mated queen.

Hi Dave, In one off your "robbing videos" you said if you took the lid off the hive, the robbing bees would fly out. If those bees are trapped in the hive, would they become part of that hive?

David, I purchased your additives and mixed as directed. I use the entrance feeder. At first everything was just fine. I then I noticed that something was leaking out of the hive and bees were drowning in it. It turns out it was the feed. Upon removing the jar, I found many more bees drowned in the feed. I’m in FL and it was quite hot.

I've had problems with my feed fermenting in the jars and losing vacuum when it gets hot. I heard someone say that the added protein can cause this. Not sure if it's true. Thoughts?

Question: I'm taking off my honey supers now to treat with Apivar. But I've noticed they only just started capping them. Should I wait until the bees are done, or is more imperative to get the mite treatment going? I did an alcohol wash and counted an average of 4 mites / 300 bees, which I think is high already. I plan to put some honey frames back on in the fall for winter.

Nope summer solstice started June 20th not July. Happens in June in the Northern Hemisphere and marks our midsummer which means the longest day and shortest night of the year. In other words, the daylight hours are longest and night time is the shortest.
