John I am so sorry you have decided to cut back so much from your bee keeping. Watching your videos has inspired me to start beekeeping this season, I have learnt so much from your videos, thank you. I really liked the way you cared for the bees, and took time to make sure as few as possible were hurt while inspecting. I wish you and Lin all the best for the future, and hope you have fully recovered from your brush with Covid. I know how bad it can be, it took me two years to fully recover from it. I look forward to your next video whenever you can manage to make it.

Hi Frank , Lovely to hear from you, I’m sure i will be doing some more videos of my beekeeping antics soon, I’ve got so much I would like to share with like minded beekeepers, what a lovely hobby it is , I would never stop beekeeping, as I’ve only got 2 hives now, I guess we will be starting off this year similar, Anyway have a good year beekeeping, I’m always hear to help if you are ever unsure about anything to do with our lovely friends, the bees 🐝 John

Hi John, the farmers near me all planted oil rape seed and I’ve had one of the biggest spring honey harvest ever 12 full supers each frame jam packed on langstroth super and some boxes of brood frames I think I’m looking at over 170 pounds of honey to much to know what to do with it all, I shall be knocking on these farmers doors with a few jars of honey for them, your harvest looked a good one John let’s hope this summer is a goodin we will all be swimming in the stuff. Thank you John and lynn for sharing your vlog with us mate.

Delightful to see you both again . Welcome home .Yes john , I wish every customer could see this video . When the honey sets solid some people don't want to know , others , a few , say things like " This is what my grandfather used to give me , this is the genuine thing " We sell from the front door , and in the honesty box I offer both set and runny . When folks are offered choice , it's mostly the runny that goes . But we have found a busy little health food shop that WANTS the set honey and is selling it well , taking 2 dozen regularly . Although this year I split my 4 hives , creating 8 and I'm struggling to get enough to supply the shop .Roll on good weather . Thanks for posting John .
@johnbeemansaunders65672 жыл бұрын
Hi Rodney, I also find customers like runny honey but also some prefer crystallised and ask for it , my conclusion is the Bees know that people like two different sorts and happy to produce it for us lol 😂 you done well splitting your hives , thanks for your comment I read it twice and find it very interesting when people comment in depth I have an idea what others are doing John 👍🤓

Hi again Rodney , I find the Oil seed rape can cause some problems with crystallising, so I would in fact prefer not to have them rape fields near my hives then I could leave it till near the end of the year and collect all in one go no worries about crystallisation see you from John

Hi John and Lynn. Hope you are both well and recovered. I just wanted to say thanks again. Your videos inspired me to start beekeeping and just had my first full year and harvest from my 2 hives. I still love to watch and learn from your previous videos. Some keepers I’ve met are very cumbersome with their bees but I have adopted your gentle caring approach looking out for every single bee. Hope you are both well and hope to see you on the screen again soon.

What a great video John, really nice. I think ive had the perfect spring this year everything went just right. Not as much honey as I hoped 170lb of 6 hives from the Rape and may get another 30lb off this week. Ive checked them every week but this year still lost a couple swarms when splitting the colony due to Q cells. I think thats only 4 swarms lost in 13 years so not too bad. Also John I have stopped work this week, primarily to care for my Dad who has Cancer, I'm unlikely to return to work. Enjoy your camping. Kind regards. 🐝🌻🍯👍

Hi David, your Beekeeping activities this year sound almost identical to mine, I also lost a couple with swarms despite doing my best, it isn’t easy is it collecting honey I don’t think customers realise how hard it is how much work is involved , sorry to hear about your dad, when my dad was quite ill i used to give him porridge with honey in it each morning it is a joy to look after parents I Sadly lost my dad two years ago, I am still looking after my mum who is 90, anyway please give my kind regards to your Dad and I am so happy you are able to look after him , John and Lin

Hello John . I missed your vids this year ! Are you transferred to some other medium ? Mark you it may just be that you have finished posting , having shared all that you find interesting . That would be a shame John , since there is always new stuff to marvel at when the hives are inspected or a conversation ensues . Hi John, how do you decide when to harvest your OSR honey ? When all the OSR flowers are over immediately, or, a week after they are over ?
@johnbeemansaunders65672 жыл бұрын
Normally when there is about 10% of the flowers left, but I check the honey if it does not shake out of the frame I collect it then before it crystallises , this also depends on the weather, as if it is raining a lot and the bees stay in the hive it does tend to crystallise then , regards John 🤓

John & Lin, Just bottled our Honey from the Oil Seed Rape, great taste. What do you say to the customers about the crystallization. This Honey changes so quickly in the jar when bottled.?
@johnbeemansaunders65672 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul , I do try and tell the customers it crystallises quick, and to worming the jar in hot water will soon make it cream consistently and they all seem to like it , I never had complaints and they always come back for more , I do also put in in a worming cabinet sometimes if it goes hard as rock in the jar , John
