The Beeks Place hike takes you to the ruins of an old cabin compound built at a scenic spot high in the Santa Ana Mountains. From Beeks Place, you can see from San Gorgonio to Mt Baldy to Catalina. The hike is challenging, taking you 2000 feet up fire roads through the mountains, and along the way, you get epic views, hidden pastures, and even a Native American settlement. While Beeks Place might not be a big-name peak bagging experience, it is a nice long mountain hike that you can do all year.

Immerse yourself in Southern California's natural splendor by embarking on the Beeks Place hike from Black Star Canyon in the Cleveland National Forest. This trail, often considered one of Orange County's hidden treasures, offers a unique combination of rugged beauty, historical intrigue, and heart-pumping adventure. Starting from the mystical Black Star Canyon, known for its rich history and folklore, the trail ascends steadily to Beeks Place, the ruins of an old radio relay station. From this vantage point, hikers are treated to a panoramic spectacle of rolling hills, the shimmering Pacific Ocean, and on clear days, even the distant silhouette of Catalina Island. The Beeks Place hike provides a moderate to challenging journey, with its steep inclines and rocky terrain, but the rewards of the incredible view and the sense of accomplishment are well worth the effort. Whether you're a seasoned hiker or an outdoor enthusiast looking to explore the historical and natural allure of Cleveland National Forest, the Beeks Place hike from Black Star Canyon promises an unforgettable experience in California's diverse landscape.

Hi Chris, First- I love your hiking guides and use them all the time. I tell my hiking friends to use them too. I hiked up to Beek's place about a week ago and loved the hike, the views from the top as well as along the way. I don't know if you know or not, but there was a guy up there restoring the place and its starting to look pretty good compared to what I saw in your video. The cabin has a sheet metal roof and the stars and stripes were flying at the entrance. He had also installed some posts around the perimeter so probably for a fence of some kind. I have a few pics if you're interested. Thank you for your guides and hope to see you on the trail one day.

Thank you and yes, I've seen the improved cabin as well. I think the children are fixing it up, very exciting but hope it doesn't get vandalized. Pretty cool and exciting. & Hope to see you out on the trail too. I'm in CNF at least once a week wandering around somewhere.

Good afternoon Chris, I just hiked up to the Indian village yesterday which was amazing, but I turned around because it was getting late. My intention was just to hike to the the trail entrance to the falls but the explorer in me took over🤗next time I will be better prepared and hike to Beeks place and I will start around 6:00 am instead of 9:30😉

Yea it's a long one. Glad you got to get up there while is still pretty green. Will start drying out soon. I also heard Beeks is being restored by its owners. Hope to get up there in the near future.

Nice one! I love the Santa Ana range! I did this hike from the opposite way, from Skyline Drive off Foothill Parkway in Corona. I love the assortment of conifer trees up at Beek's Place. California native Gray Pines, Pacific Douglas-Firs, Tecate Cypress, and Coulter Pines, and some exotic conifers, Italian Stone Pine, Aleppo Pine, Deodar Cedar, and Canary Island Pine! I also went all the way to Pleasants Peak that day, and the views along the ridge are fantastic! Looks like the Black Star approach would be really fun too! Great video!

Pleasants is one my top summits in the Santa Ana range! I love the grove of Knobcone Pines and rare Wartleaf Ceanothus around the area!!

The story I heard about those steel towers at Beeks place is that the Army Air Corps used them for gunnery practice during WWII. They had machine guns up on the top and then they used airplanes to tow glider targets through the area. Guys up in the towers would shoot at the targets. I don't know if that is true, it's just the version that I read somewhere. The configuration at top, with the little platform and the pedestal in the middle to mount the gun, looks like it might be possible.

Very cool, had not heard that but def possible. There's lots of WW2 bunkers & history along the coast around here.

Thank you. I don't know if I will do the whole hike, but going up to the Indian Site which I think is about 10 miles round trip is definitely doable for me. I also read part of your linked article on it, and NO, I don't know, but I would be very skeptical of an Indian Massacre there. I do know that the biggest hostilities known in California occurred up by Porterville, California. I haven't researched that one yet. Also, the biggest single rock that holds the most mortar holes is Indian Grinding Rock State Park up by Jackson, California. It has over 200 holes and I think it is the most in North America. To say the least, I am extremely interested in this hike up to the Indian Site. I did some KZfaq research, and there are dozens of holes up there. Thank you again for enlightening me to something I had no idea, good solid video, background and detail with some suspense! And best of all, it looks like you have recovered most of your health Cris, cool!!!

Nice, thanks for the info, and yes, tons of holes at the site here and probably more to find if you know what you're looking for. It's def worth hiking up to on its own.

. . . . I grew up in Corona and we hiked that area and after I was old enough to drive a Honda Mini Bike and later a Car , a Bigger Motorcycle , Pickup Truck etc . We spent weekends exploring Beeks Place . My Brother said he met Beeks Son about 1978 . the Cabin was in perfect shape with a good roof and a Water Heater built on the Chimney outside . I graduated High School in 1981 and had begun going to that area about Two Years earlier . There was still food in the Cupboards in Beeks Place . it was a nice Cabin with 4 or 6 built in Wood Bunks . People would sometimes use the Fireplace at night . there are underground water storage Cisterns all over the property . You missed the Swimming Pool ! My Brother said it was a Pool , I thought it was a Fishing Pond . It was made of Concrete and had a Sidewalk all the way around it . The Pool comes into view at 8:37 the white stripe at the upper right corner of the screen . It is uphill from Beeks on the opposite side of the road and hidden by the contour of the Hill , you wont see it from the road . The Pool has a view overlooking Corona . The Doppler Tower has been built above it . 6:18 There were Two Large Propellers and One Small Propeller Generators on the Towers and a Tool shed built into the Legs at the bottom and a Gasoline Generator in the Tool Shed . in 1986 Beeks was showing signs of Vandalism but still inhabitable . I drove my New Ford Pickup Truck and parked at the Locked Gate . My Sweetheart and I sat in the back of the truck enjoying the Night time view . I asked Her to Marry Me - She said Yes .

Thanks for sharing that - very cool - I knew that it was trashed by the 2000s but didn't realize that it was still in decent shape into the 80s - and yes, pool is very neat, I just didn't show everything in the video but maybe I'll go back and shoot the ruins more extensively... must have been cool growing up around here
