The musical is quite loose and more poppy! The book is a dark political satire but both are worth it!

@@Horus070Funny thing is people don’t realize how the musical has changed over time. I saw it the opening week OFF BROADWAY, talk about dark. I returned opening NIGHT on Broadway, 1/2 of the show had changed. No joke. It was fun to watch them curb the darkness and give in to society, especially now to be able to turn it into a FILM, 😂, there is no way the book could be a film.

@@Horus070 I found the first book rather flawed: excellent potential but poor writing around some of the 'dark' adult topics* which almost made me give up reading it. Also felt there was a missed opportunity to change the ending (i.e. make it a fake-out - which would have made the events more sensible and fit the character of Elphaba better). The musical side steps those topics and presents a more family-friendly story - yes, it could have lent into the moralistic role reversal a bit more to preserve that aspect of the story but the general plot is there, just not as serious as it could have been. [*Before anyone critiques my opinion there is no way I could have written it better, but I've certainly read better.]

From what I remember, Madame Morrible has kinda speaky-singy lines in The Wizard and I, as well as in Thank Goodness. No big riffs required. I’m sure Michelle will crush it.

This is without a doubt my number one most anticipated movie of the year wicked is unequivocally my favorite musical. I’ve seen it 10 times on stage. I’ve driven hours to a different city because I knew that it would be touring there. It’s amazing and I can’t wait to see what this film is going to bring.

Wicked has toured. I've seen it in Los Angeles twice and once in Orange County. So good. Adam Lambert was in it in one LA production I saw, in his pr e - American Idol days. I can't wait.

I would've never pegged you as a Wicked Fan. I've loved this Musical since I was introduced to it in Middle School Music Class with Idina's Classic Tony Performance. But before I was immersed into Wicked, I was and still am to this day a Huge Wizard of Oz Fan. I've been waiting for this film since I was 14. I'll be there day 1 in IMAX.

I am so excited for this! I just got my dad introduced to the soundtrack of the broadway version last year. He had no interest in seeing the actual stage productions, back when they were touring, but he has been so excited for THIS! Glad to see we're not the only ones! 😊

I saw Wicked when it was on tour years ago. Absolutely incredible show. I also adore the cast recording and will probably listen to it through my AirPods at work today. I’m the same where if I hear one of the songs, there is a mighty need for more and I’m pulled right back in. This film looks amazing and Erivo’s voice cutting through at the end gives me chills every time I rewatch this trailer.

This was such an lovely surprise, I have never actually had the pleasure of seeing ‘Wicked’ so I’ve avoided the plot for years, but the music is so iconic and beloved. Once they announced Cynthia Erivo I was so excited, she is one of the most talented vocalists ever in my opinion. Will definitely be sobbing when I see her performance 🥲

I love Wicked! The book blew me away, and I've been lucky enough to see the stage show a few times. Not on Broadway, but twice on tour in the States. My first time seeing the show was actually in Germany (auf Deutsch) in 2008.

While my theatre soul (seen the broadway show 3 times, have the soundtrack) and bookaholic nature (yes i have the book) is a bit hesitant and skeptical, i am excited to see this adaptation and hopefully can go into this with an opened mind.... This is my Roman Empire I can’t describe with words how excited I I’m. I love the books the musical, I have the grimmerie I was the kid singing this in the bathroom in middle school!!!!!! This movie is my Joker, Fnaf and Barbie and the fact it is coming out on my birthday when I saw the musical for the first time for my birthday is just a full circle moment 🥳😍😁 also I hope idina is dillamond 😊

I've read the books and was fortunate enough to see the live version, not with the original cast, but still amazing! I cried with joy that I got to see it! I also have the CD set that I play every year around Halloween! I can't wait to see this movie!!!! I'm excited that you're excited!

So glad you reacted to this. I love the show, seen it 3 times in Dallas. Sang Popular a couple of times at events I was invited to perform at. I have been waiting for this movie to be made for over a decade. Hope it is as good as it should be. Not sure if I’ve ever seen a musical released in two parts before though. I wonder why they decided to do that. Guess we will find out. Can’t wait!

My sister saw it when her high school went on a trip to NYC when it was still in its initial runs there! She saw it with Kristin Chenoweth! She then brought the soundtrack back to us and our whole family knows all the words to the soundtrack after countless car trips! Then I was lucky enough to get to see the Canadian company do it in Toronto! I’m with you I’m so anxiously excited!

i’ve seen the musical 4 times in person and love a good slime tutorial now and then. But I actually have never read the book, I might add it to my TBR soon. I love this show so much and I’m so incredibly excited for the adaptation! This and Rent are my fav musicals i’ve seen and even tho rent has a movie it wasn’t the best adaptation in my opinion but I have faith in this to be a good adaptation. November can’t come soon enough. Cynthia and Ariana are going to kill it.

Ive seen the musical twice in London and its amazing, hope this movie is too it does look amazing!!! As it part one maybe it ends how the first part of the musical which if i remember right is after defying gravity. Thanks for reacting to this ❤ soundtrack is awesome

A big thank you for this video reaction! This, by far, is my top most anticipated movie!! Also most feared if it's not done right. I heard the soundtrack, read the book, and saw the New York performance! My guess is that part one will end the same way as the play performance. What a cliffhanger for those not familiar with the stage production. The trailer looks very good. There was talk, I've heard about having an actual woman of color playing the role of Elphaba. Your thoughts and reactions mirror mine. I'm playing the soundtrack today to help me through Monday!!

Wicked does tour. I saw it a dozen years ago in Washington DC, and just right after Christmas last year in San Antonio. I am definitely looking forward to this one. Of course, “Defying Gravity” is the showstopper, but I also love “No Good Deed” and “For Good”.

Pretty sure it will end on act 1 for part one. With Defying Gravity closing the movie just like the show. Im excited for this due to it being a movie it will be more cinematic. And also seeing Glinda’s bubble like how the show intended it to be like will be cool.

I’m so excited for this and the director has stated that he essentially is trying to tell the whole story of wicked in 2 parts. This film will end with defying gravity but I have a feeling since they showed Dorothy and the gang he’ll be expanding the character developments and maybe pulling more of the book in and maybe taking it not as poppy? Also potential visions or something for why we might see Dorothy and stuff in part 1 before part 2 😅but time will tell. I’m just excited and every theater kid from the 2,000’s is patiently waiting for this haha 😆

I watched the musical with the original cast years ago when I was young when I lived in South California. Blown away, completely just immersed. Never read the books. Very curious as to how many songs will be in the first part and how they’ll handle the second part. Also if the second part will have original songs to make up for lack of material from the musical. Overall, I’m just hyped for this.

Before I watched the musical in the West End I knew about it, I managed to actually avoid spoilers and I wasn't quite sure if it would live up to the hype but my gosh the moment I left the theatre I was obsessed! Rachel Tucker (she came back for a short time and Anita Dobson was Madam Morrible ❤) was my Elphie and oh gosh last night I cried watching the trailer, I was like "FINALLY!!!!" ❤❤❤❤❤

I saw Wicked the first time in San Francisco when it had its world premiere pre-Broadway with Kristin and Idina. I am so excited for this movie even though Ariana wouldn’t have been my first choice for Glinda.

I'm assuming the 2 movies will be split to cover both acts (and to answer your other question, yes, Wicked has toured before multiple times. I saw it in New Orleans in 2016)

When this was announced as a movie I was very hesitant cuz a lot of musical adaptations are not especially great, this trailer does look really good tho. I hope it does well, and I would love to see an adaptation of the books too!

I have a lot of hope for this film. Really looking forward to it, been waiting since they announced the cast. I’m sure Cynthia Erivo will destroy Defying Gravity, she is a superstar. But I do hope the visuals that go with it bring justice to the entire song. I just know that I will be singing (under my breath) at the cinema as I watch this. Gosh I’m so excited

quick question. where did you get the wicked logo (and the other movie logos you used) for the thumbnail? did you make the png yourself in photoshop or is there a place that has all the logos??

If I can't find it in a quick google search, I take the end card or a poster and photoshop it out! This one I had to use Photoshop.

Well this is an adaptation of the super popular broadway show that has been playing for the last 20 years which is based on a book that came out in the early 90s.

I used to watch Wicked whenever it would tour L.A., but it’s kind of fallen off in the last decade. It’s good show and if the film is half as good, it should be entertaining. Such great songs.

It's been nearly a decade and a half since I read the first two of Gregory McGuire's Wicked books and seen the show live once. I'm really excited but definitely managing my expectations, since movie musical adaptations have been hit or miss recently. I'm still torn on it being split into two parts but you can do so much in this world, I'm curious how they're going to expand it. 💚🩷
