In episode 11 of Building A Brand, the branding process comes to an end, and now it's time to launch the re-branded Hamilton Family Brewery to the public.
With all of the deliverables in Josh Hamilton’s hands, there’s one last thing Matthew and Ben have to get to him for the project to be complete - the brand style guide. This document will give guidelines for any future designers working with Hamilton Family Brewery on how to properly execute and iterate on the design work Blind has done. Since Josh creates a lot of his own merchandise, signage, and labeling, this document will be invaluable to him.
After the Brand style guide is delivered, Josh and his crew implement Blind’s work to change over the Tasting Room the night before revealing the new brand to their customers. In a party that feels more like a backyard barbecue than a fancy reveal, Josh and Crysten will showcase their new logo and branding to Hamilton’s community and launch the next phase in the brewery’s life. As Hamilton Family Brewery moves into the future, will Blind's rebrand help them accomplish their business goals of preparing the brand for retail shelves? What will the public think of the change?

IDEA: How about a collaboration with Hamilton Brewery, pulling some fresh designs for their merch and portion of sales go to the funding of the next project. I love the merch and would love to get my hands on some of the tees. WHY: Before this, I didn't know what the Hamilton Brand was, but after going through the series I felt a sensation or same reaction, I daresay, to the people who were at the new logo presentation. As if I was part of the process, and thus an emotional connection has now been built. And we can leverage this. This is the POWER of STORYTELLING. Now, I want Josh and his team to succeed. Great job, you guys! FUNNY COMMENT: Hire me, guys, I have tons of more ideas!

Matthew and Ben, I don't know that I've ever left a comment on KZfaq before, but I felt like I had to say how much I have enjoyed this series. This is by far my favorite show about design. You are both incredibly forward-thinking to go through the whole process from start to finish as well show the designers who were involved. There definitely is no other show like this out there and I have learned a ton; even as a motion designer/animator who has been in the industry for 10+ years. As a designer, it's easy to find an abundance of reference of solid designs, but it's harder to find how to interact with clients, co-workers, and make smart decisions under tight deadlines, and theFutur does a great job of pulling back the curtain while making you feel like you're part of the team. I can only imagine how much this is helping young, aspiring designers. Thanks again! I really hope there is a season 2.

This episode was literally shivering. I was so happy to see the reactions of the brewery community as it was my own work!! Guys, this was awesome and I can't wait for season 2. As for the sponsorship on the next series maybe Adobe, Apple, Wacom, Trello, Slack, Asana (things we use everyday as designers but a lot people don't know of) or a sponsor per episode basis. You can co-fund with crowdfunding for half of it - I am not aware of the amounts that are on the table but even for the total.. love you guys!

Speaking of season 2, in terms of funding that: I really don't mind having (preferably relevant) sponsors each episode to help fund this. Like Webflow and Epidemic Sounds were in some episodes. And/or more plugs/ads for your own academy courses. Secondly, I think if you can find a client that is a bit bigger and actually sells nation wide and/or internationally, you could argue that this series is also an amazing advertisement for their company and product. Meaning they could at least pay your normal fee or maybe even more for the exposure. Also I think a bigger client would benefit this series for the added perspective of how that process might be different. And lastly, and this is quite a long shot, It could maybe become a topic on Netflix's 'explained' series. P.S. the building a brand website isn't working anymore (for me at least). All files seem to be missing, besides the episode thumbnails

I know I have been a year late... But this was something that helped me realise what I wanted to do. Few years back I would have never thought that I would end up being diverted towards designing industry. I am always fluctuating between graphic design, website design and product design. This made it definite. It showed me how brand designing mixes all three stuff and it was the moment like 'ya this is meant for me and I don't have to fluctuate anymore'. I don't think another field has such revealing tutorial... In and out. ... And I hope to see more seasons cause its just very adventurous and feels like we are part of the journey! Always waiting and if fate gives me a chance I would love to be one to fund and produce seasons in the coming future...

Too often we get set in our ways and rest on the laurels of current customers and the day to day running of a small company. I think what you have show with this series is that by going through an exhaustive research and understanding process you can define where you are and set goals for where you want to be. Fantastic stuff guys! Would love to see a branding for eco brands. I wrote to Chris with this question/idea. How to you stand out, if you want to go really lean. I understand you do media..but the media is transferred to physical objects also. And that kind of creates a problem. Labels should be bio degradable not plastic, with minimum ink or nature friendly ink..no shiny stuff. Packaging the same. Without a great design and knowledge of such domain - it can get pretty blank and boring. Could be cool to see what you pros could come up with. Anyhow, keep up and dont forget the motivation why you are doing this!

Loved this :). And you asked for feedback on funding this, so hope my 2cents helps. My first instinct, is don't try to. You could just take all the data of the viewership of this series and email that along with a pitch to Netflix, Amazon Video, Hulu etc, sure someone would pick it up. Then, of course, you have sponsorship and affiliate links etc that you're doing now. But I think you don't need to. The average person, and even most entrepreneurs that are product creators can't name a single design agency, and no-one in the space is doing this. I would recommend you do this at scale off your own back, as the brand increase will drive so much new business that it'll be a net positive. The same way Gary Vee does for his Social Media / Ad Agency. The thing I would challenge is bringing down the cost of production, to make it more feasible, which I know is hard to do as creatives (perfectionism and all haha), but D-Rock's one-man-band shooting and postproduction goes to show you can create great work with not a lot. The other thing is, you said you charged less than your normal fee and in exchange to film it. I would suggest the other way. This gives so much brand awareness to whoever is being featured, you could easily charge the client more. I just looked up HFM and if they sold beer in my country I would definitely go and buy it... And doing both, cutting production cost, and getting the client to pay more for the exposure, is where the delta will be met to make this happen. In my option. In hope this helps, and that in any case, you are able to make another season. :).

I know I've watched it after a long time, but let me tell you one thing, it'll be a cult hit. It feels like we've been a part of your crew, also like we know closely The Hamilton Family. Now this particular episode is so emotional. I feel so connected to you guys. Thank you to the whole team of Futur for bringing such kind of content for us all. Truly inspirational.

Also, it's amazing to see both Matthew and Ben, despite having difference of opinion, still respect each other and not trying to "win" against each other. It goes to show the kind of working atmosphere that Blind has built. It's all about embracing differences and respecting each other. I wish all working place is like that.

The entire serie is great! thanks a lot for sharing the whole process of branding, it is so impressive and so interesting, you're doing an amazing work! I have only few questions: the creative concept was to make a branding for the Hamilton Family including: logo creation, packaging (with all the asides elements), website and video clip (i'm just summarizing the all process). But how much did it cost to the Hamilton family ? what was the initial budget ? Did you (blind company) earn money on that project? I think that in the episode five you're talking about 250,000 dollars. Is it correct? was it enough ? I mean you own a very big company, with many great workers and huge office in California, you have a lot of computers, licences etc... I know how sounds a quarter million dollar, but still, you are providing a huge work in a large timeline... Would love to get an answer please!

I think it was made clear that they got a bit of a deal by agreeing to be the subjects of this great series. That’s how Blind justified the expense as the Hamilton’s clearly said that they didn’t have the budget for the whole project as was proposed.

The 250,000 you are remembering is a story that Ben was telling about a previous client, not the Hamiltons. And at the end of that story, he said that the client eventually scraped the project so the company that hired Blind, spent $250,000 and decided not to move forward. Which is nuts!! But as Jaye Marsh said in the previous comment, the Hamiltons received a discounted price to participate in this documentary. Throughout the series you can even see Ben stressing about the timeline on this project, which directly corresponds to the cost of this rebrand. Which made me think that there were times when this project's feasibility for Blind was in question. They really had to push forward and couldn't really pussy foot around with a lot of revision rounds.
