Honestly, as much as I love Float, I much prefer his production to Blockhead's (et al), too. The types of hooks he comes up with jive with his lyrics and his style so well

SWFG is probably my favorite Aes album, but it's also pretty dense. It also helps if you're a bit of an Astralnaut.

@@teboots1 I agree but all the best Aseop is dense. Supercell and Mystery Fish on Impossible Kid are too, but I think they are also the best 2 tracks on the album. SWFG isn't as bad as say float, or Skelethon.. or something extra gritty like Malibu Ken. It's a good start considering Ase overall.

I said on a previous video that Skelethon was my go-to and I think I’d stick with that. It blends the story telling of later albums (Rubi ‘81), the density of earlier albums (ZZZ Top) and, well, a dash of silliness (Racing Stripes).

@djmizzou3030
@djmizzou3030 3 ай бұрын
Aesop initially recorded and released two self-financed records: Music for Earthworms in 1998 and the Appleseed EP in 1999. After being signed to the Mush label, Aesop Rock released his first studio album, Float, in 2000. Shortly thereafter, Aesop Rock signed to the Manhattan-based hip hop label Definitive Jux, where he released Labor Days in 2001, Bazooka Tooth in 2003, and None Shall Pass in 2007. His albums since then - Skelethon (2012), The Impossible Kid (2016), Spirit World Field Guide (2020), Garbology (2021), and Integrated Tech Solutions (2023) - have been released by Rhymesayers Entertainment. That's his discography. I've been a fan since 11th grade. I'm 39 now 😂. Die hard Aesop Rock fan. Seen in concert 3 times. ❤

To me the albums Skelethon, The Impossible Kid, and Spirit World Field Guide kinda go together and help build a story especially focusing on the loss of Aesop’s friend Camu Tao. Skelethon is about death and loss and the pain that creates.The Impossible Kid is kinda about seeking help, letting go of the past and trying to move forward. Spirit World Field Guide is living life after that help, knowing that the pain will never truly go away but you can learn to live with it and appreciate the things you have. It really matches up with the pairing of Get Out the Car, Shrunk, and Kirby. A song trilogy within The Impossible Kid that plays out with the same themes. All together I love Skelethon the most, I think it’s much more complex, has a good sense of humor, and emotion than the other two albums but its much harder to see the themes unless you do research about Aes himself, because of that, The Impossible Kid is the album to get. Still a beautiful album, still has it’s complexities and humor(all of Aes does) but in the end it’s much easier to digest at face value

it's funny you mention Twisted Sister in reference to controversial music; they got targeted by Tipper Gore and the PMRC years ago, Dee Snider came in to testify against the censorship they were trying to push through, and if for some reason you haven't seen the footage of that and don't mind taking your channel on a little field trip, you should totally do a reaction to it

I cant disagree with any of these suggestions as they're all great Albums but I have to shout out Labor Days as a throw back masterpiece. Young Aes was pissed off at the f'ckery of the corporate controlled times but still saw the beauty in the chaos and expressed it like the worlds most eloquent poet was getting into early days crack addiction. Probably not his absolute best work but a little surprised that no-one at all mentioned Bazooka Tooth yet also. "Easy" is my personal favourite of that album. Don't know why apart from so relateable to me and im sure so many others

There is no "best Aes album". Every one of his albums is unique to that specific album. The dude catches a certain vibe and makes an album from it. @tomraymond9795
@tomraymond9795 3 ай бұрын
Love all Aes albums but Labor Days was where it all started for me and although the production quality doesn't stand up to his more recent works, the content and creativity of the soundscape more than makes up for it. And it's so intricate and full of the bitter dissatisfaction of early adulthood when you're really getting just how f'd up everything is and you resent the loss of innocence or the world not being as it should be. Its visceral and raw. Def Jux was amazing. I think they overreached in the end with some big deals for Del The Funkee Homosapien and Dizzee Rascal who had been more commercially successful but illegal downloads killed their revenue. Still find it a bit trippy to see El-P doing mainstream numbers with Killer Mike as Run the Jewels. Happy for him though as giving us Def Jux was a huge gift to fans of Indie Rap. He's a decent producer too, Blockhead for the win though for me personally. El-P's self produced album Fantastic Damage put out on his own Def Jux Label was a spiky treat and such a flex! Also loved I Phantom, Mr Lif's debut album. This is a criminally under heard and underrated masterpiece. For me one of the great concept albums, it rolls through different movie genres from hood film to family drama to straight up apocalyptic Sci Fi and the best ending to any album I ever heard. The last 3 tracks on their own would make a top tier EP. Special mentions also to Rob Sonic Album Telicatessen and Cage's Hells Winter, both strong works. I miss Def Jux 🥲
