The short version is that Victor Rosenbaum understands the gestural and structural content of this work better than any pianist currently before the public. If one is looking for "note perfect," look somewhere else. This performance is merely "soul perfect".

Wrong notes apart, his attack is to frail for this kind of concerto.

It's hard to know what the problem is here. The guy looks absolutely terrified most of the time. Is it because of the nervousness that his hands just don't quite seem to obey, or is this piece simply beyond his technical abilities? I suspect a combination of the two. All of these bizarre hesitations, funny accents, holes in the continuity of the music... Always precisely where the piece gets difficult, he slows down and gets "musical." Kind of studentish actually.

stevenryhudi I'm a professional musician - studied piano and conducting in NYC and Vienna. Live in Italy and Germany. Conduct operas and play Liederabende mostly in Germany, Austria, France and Italy. What enables me to assess?...my ears.

assindiastignani This is because Victor Rosenbaum is one of the most knowledgable pianists and pedagogues of our time, however he has had some major issues with his hands a long time ago. There was nearly 20 years he would hardly perform but he is such an incredible musician he was demanded back by the public. The tone he has on lighter material that doesn't demand perfect technique is better than almost anyone I've ever heard.

musicisasuperpower Are you a student of his? "...one of the most knowledgable pianists and pedagogues of our time..." "...demanded back by his public..." ?? Well, in Boston perhaps. Anyhow, if you like him, fine.
