"Opus 70 is a set of two Piano Trios by Ludwig van Beethoven, written for piano, violin, and cello. Both trios were composed during Beethoven's stay at Countess Marie von Erdödy's estate, and both are dedicated to her for her hospitality. They were published in 1809.
These pieces are representative of Beethoven's "Middle" stylistic period, which went from roughly 1803 to 1812, and which included many of his most famous works. Beethoven wrote the two piano trios while spending the summer of 1808 in Heiligenstadt, Vienna where he had completed his Symphony No. 5 the previous summer. He wrote the two trios immediately after finishing his Sinfonia pastorale, Symphony No. 6. This was a period of uncertainty in Beethoven's life, in particular because he had no dependable source of income at the time."

The first movement is so perfect, what an incredible masterpiece that still doesn't get the recognition it deserves between Beethoven's two nicknamed trios

The final movement is absolutely beautiful. So many of Beethoven's late middle period finales were so uplifting and heart-melting, like the finales to op. 93, op. 97, op. 102 no. 1, and, not to mention, the finale to the first trio in this very same opus. That's why I think it's a crying shame that Beethoven is remembered in popular culture for his dark and depressing sounds; they're great, too, but I think some of his greatest heights are these bright and energetic finales from his late middle period.

yes, the Finale is so overwhelming! Especially also in a symphonic/orchestral arrangement: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hZZnd6ak2b6xYZc.html

You think 'popular culture' takes Beethoven as dark and depressing? The Eroica, the Pastoral, the 7th and 9th symphonies (Ode to Joy), the Emperor concerto, his most performed works are uplifting, not gloomy.

@@Wkkbooks In pop culture, I think the 5th symphony first movement and the moonlight sonata eclipse everything else by a wide enough margin that most people think those two works represents his whole catalog. I might be wrong, maybe most people aren't making any such assumptions. The third runner up is probably the 7th symphony second movement. As for all the works you listed, those works are ones that somebody with a passing knowledge of classical music know, not the general population. Like, a soccer mom or a high school football player would recognize the 5th symphony first movement because every human in the western world would, but I'm not so sure about the 3rd symphony.

I totally agree with you. Beethoven is joy and brightness. His music is very energetic and emotive.

Thank Schumann for that nonsense. He promoted that whole Beethoven = Thunderstorms BS. Yeah, he wrote great tumultuous music in minor keys. How many of these pieces end in the minor key? Beethoven was about optimism and hope, rising above adversity.

One of most underrated Beethoven's Masterworks. Not less of Ghosts Trio. The second movement with its Baroque mood is a great previous annoncement of last Beethoven and a great tribute to beloved Haendel.

Leonardo Mauretti it has never been as popular as the Romantic Ghost trio or the magnificent Archduke, but it's just as accomplished as those two titans in the piano trio genre. This one is more classically inspired.

This to my ears is more aesthetically appealing than the famous "Ghost" trio. It's overall more "classical" sounding than its companion and is brimming with poise and lyricism throughout.

Mehdi Javanfar it's sublime Beethoven. He must have realised he went over the top with his famous "Ghost" trio, with its Romantic rhetoric. This companion piece is lovely; but it's Beethoven the Classicist. The classical inspiration of this work is apparent throughout, but it's authentic Beethoven, not in anyway suggestive of Haydn or Mozart. I love this trio better than any of the others, except for the mighty Archduke Trio op. 97.

There is no Beethoven the best of any of his works: They all are best. If Beethoven only wrote one of his 9 symphonies, he would be the greatest symphonist.

...also meine ❤❤❤❤❤Heroine❤❤❤❤❤, weiß, was ich meine...

lest the 😇❤vice president❤😇 be without impression of the haven I just evoked with reference to her, be here the musical map for her, so as to being able to integrate the rest thereof... ...from bar 223 up to bar 331... ...listen to the intensity of peace that must be in this haven, just by the eighth note starting on the < e > the piano is to play the violin imitating it in the next bar strechting up to this gorgeous trller using the < g'' > as the base to triller away, there is created a feeling of peace and calm and I couldn't find any words to describe it that good, it is just the peace I'm dreaming of and it was perfectly put into the music from out of the silence by Beethoven... trennt das Fugato am Anfang nicht in der Folge der Exposition das erste Thema vom zweiten, welches in b-Dur erscheint?
