Rat Rods for Africa

Rat Rods for Africa

2 ай бұрын

It's Wifey Wednesday! Time to do some more work on the Renault/VW Beetle project. In this round, the floor pan is finally painted and I can start assembly. First though, I need to shorten the gear shift rod to suit the shortened VW Beetle floor pan. I also make my own shift rod bushing, which is a huge improvement on the factory version.

VW enthusiasts secret: The top of a plastic bottle (such as a plastic oil top-up bottle) when cut off is a perfect fit (and I do mean perfect!) for a shift rod bushing and works better than the factory bushing.

Nice job Div, replacing that bush is something I've never done, but probably should have when I was driving VW's with sloppy gear levers. I also gave some thought to widening the front guards - luckily you have the suicide doors, so slitting the guards and edge of the doors to match should aloow you to insert a piece of metal to stretch the panels.
