I could be wrong, but I think it could be related to her drug usage. Her voice not only sounds higher now, but it's grittier as well. She had a lower smoother voice when she was young.

Gwasgray although I agree it was most likely from her heavy smoking, people have been known to fuck up their voices from opiates, which she used.

8R014V Anyway she's only about 15 or 16 here, so naturally her voice will have changed a bit since then. She might even have made a conscious effort to make her voice less nasal.

Actually it was heavily implied that she was planning to kill herself and that as Juno's former assistant, he knows that Suicidals become civil servants in the afterlife. So when he said why what he meant was "Why would you do that, it's so boring."

"...Why?" The only serious line he says in the entire movie. I really like the half second implication that maybe he didn't used to be completely insane and has just been driven there by hating death, and then he goes right back to his act.

Another reason this movie wouldn't get made today: Lydia's epically melodramatic suicide note is one of the most underrated and funniest bits in the movie, which also serves as a easy way to bring up the subject and let the movie actually address it and evolve Lydia's character in these scenes. There's no way studio execs now would risk angering the PC crowd, even though it's a comedy and a lot of teens can probably relate to feeling that ridiculously dramatic and oppressed over having ECCENTRIC PARENTS...well one eccentric parent...THE HORROR!

I would love to see that: Because they got rid of BJ, the Maitlands get to move to the neitherworld early (also they can have children there). Lydia gets bored without them and starts carying her wedding ring. BJ was in the waiting room because he is permanently trapped in the sandworm and wants out. All Juno could do was give him a huge wait time. Lydia gets into bad trouble and summons BJ who saves her. He is very grateful to be free of the worm. They work things out. She now wears the ring.

@@watertommyz Oh wow :), that old comment of mine is a blast from the past haha. I loved that film and cartoon back then when I was a little girl. Still do, actually. Thanks for bringing me back. :) I was responding to somebody else's post back then, but looks like KZfaq separated and messed up old comment threads since then. I don't even know if that comment I was responding to is still here somewhere or was deleted, and sadly I don't remember whatever they were saying that I "would love to see". :( I think though that my comment was about how I would have liked that cartoon (or perhaps a film sequel) to have begun. If that cartoon actually has an origin story, I don't know it. I've seen every episode, but maybe there's a comic book or novel or whatever with an origin story that I haven't seen. I vaguely remember that thread being about how you can see Lydia wearing her wedding ring in a few episodes of that cartoon, so maybe I was giving my interpretation of why she's doing that.

She wears the ring but the marriage didn't go through. Remember, the marriage was to break the binding curse on BJ and in the series the curse still exists. It either didn't go through because the last word of the ceremony wasn't said or because the 'Corpse Bride clause' (till *death* do us part) makes it automatically invalid.

In all the drafts BJ was so creepy, keaton made him scary but not entirely evil and that part where he asks her 'why' shows that bit of humanity and makes him more loveable even though hes still the bad guy. idk i think it brought a lot more to the character than having him just being some heartless dead guy who just wanted to sleep with a 14 year old and kill her parents
