I like how they changed Beetlejuice from being an actual demon who just wants to murder into a more cinnamon roll Beetlejuice who just wants to be seen and scare people. I feel like it makes him a lot more likable. Also I really wish they kept that version of Say My Name where Lydia isn’t interested at all. It’s so funny and catchy. And I wish they kept the cute little jazz hands dance

Ahhh so the whole haunted carnival thing with the rolled up arms was exactly what happened when Lydia summoned Beetlejuice in the movie. They probably changed it to keep the differences, but I still would’ve loved to see all that!!

What I get from these vids is the DC run was more in line with the movie while Broadway seemed to draw more from the cartoon (in terms of Beetlejuice's character). The first is murderous while the other is mischievous. It's fascinating. I like them both!

i had the opportunity to go see the previews but i never ended up going which is SUPER sad :(

i remember when they released say my name as a preview to the ost and when i heard the soundtrack version i was like what

I had Avenue Q prepare me for my teenage years but nothing could prepare me for this. In my own personal opinion, I would have kept all the dark jokes in but then perhaps they got too many complaints from people. Then again Betelgeuse is a demon I wouldn't be surprised if he was too much for people to handle. It is funny that you don't really consider what the product was before you saw it. Gosh this video has been so helpful to me thank you thank you thank you. The most important part of the musical is the fact that it happened and though it was very experimental, it worked for people which hopefully means that people can still push the boundaries of musical theatre. This has been really inspiring to listen to... not the "show me your $%^&" part (obviously) but the fact the musical changed so much. (Also because they cut more songs and parts of scenes, who thinks they made Beautiful Sound longer to compensate ie longer dance break and longer vamps and scenes to make up the 2 hours? Is it just me?)

While a lot of this is fun and I can appreciate it having been cut mostly for cohesiveness, change of tone or replacement with something more fitting, I am really glad those Maxie lines were cut. They really don't add anything except for cringe.

I had tickets to see the show on March 14th (just two days after Broadway went dark) And now after finding out that it won’t return to the Winter Garden (but will hopefully find a new theater, fingers crossed!), I’m so devastated I won’t be able to see it. Technicly not cut, but they totally should have kept the whole being dead thing part three in the sound track.

I definitely appreciate why the DC reviews were mixed. The show was far cruder and less funny/endearing for it. They smartly economized the banter, softening the humour, but sharpening the overall momentum. The final show really hums along a great clip, while a lot of these cut lines belabour their points.
