Good job Jake. My grandfather was also a farrier. When I was a child, I loved watching him work. Turkish techniques are a little bit different, but your skills are excellent. Congratulations.

Unbelievable! You'll probably all laugh at me for living a sheltered city life but I never imagined this is what's involved with changing a horseshoe. What a skill. And I guess this has to be done for every foot on every horse everywhere. How much goes on in the world we have no idea about :)

G'Day, Thanks for the video - brings back memories of when I was a kid watching my father (who was a farrier in his younger days) shoe our horses. Just a quick one though - the only time I ever saw two toe clips on a shoe, was when a horse had a cracked hoof, but it appears that this mare had two toe clips on her shoes as a routine matter. I live in Australia, and *all* of the horses (and as I was involved in helping the local farrier, as well as completing in local horse events - this was a _lot_ of horses) I saw had only a single toe clip. Is that common in the UK, or was this for a special case?

anyone know how often you need to do this? or does it depend on how much workload the horse gets or
@geraldinerice53713 жыл бұрын
It does depend on how much the horse is on the road, and the work. People usually get it done every 8 weeks. Its difficult to find a good farrier.

Hello. I just wanna educate myself because I just came across this video and I don't have much idea about horses. When the horshoe was being put back in the hoof, does it hurt them when farriers put nails on them?
@xMidnightxRunnerx2 жыл бұрын
Nope! Horses hooves are like human fingernails - the wall that the farrier is working on is made of keratin, same as our nails and hair. It would be analogous to if you had really long nails and you poked one of them with a sewing needle - it would look weird and you might feel pressure, but there's no nerves in your nails. There's obviously a lot of differences between a horse hoof and a human fingernail aside from that, but that's the general idea!
@ashleymaestaana2 жыл бұрын
@@xMidnightxRunnerx Oh wow. Thank you very much! I appreciate it.

does this hurt on the horse?
@julianmichael27913 жыл бұрын
So do you do all four hooves and show one, or just this one in the video and leave the other three hooves unattended to?
@somewormfood3 жыл бұрын
I think he does one shoe on camera and the rest off camera if he left all the hooves unattended he would probably be fired lol
@matthewwadwell61003 жыл бұрын
You can see in the background, that there is debris on the ground from the other hooves being done.

What does burning the hoof do?
@usmc-veteran19553 жыл бұрын

What caused the smoke from when u out the horse shoe on? And can they feel it?
@daremixman59193 жыл бұрын
From my research (a google search) and what was seen in the video, they cannot feel it. He had just taken the shoe out of a forge in the back of his car, therefore it was red-hot when he pressed it to the hoof.
