This scene just convinced me why Ruyi chose not to reclaimed to be the empress again and remove her painting and returned the plant that he gave. The worst... Ruyi doesn't want her son to be selected as crown prince and be free from royal duties. Best revenge ever to the emperor and the empress dowager

I loved what the Empress Dowager said about Ruyi after she died. Ruyi was ruled by only by love and she had no desire for power, status or revenge. She lived a life of inner peace and freedom because of how she lived. That was the best compliment and tribute that Ruyi could have ever received.

He is an incompetent emperor. Ruyi suffered a lot because of her unconditional love for him. People around him died because of him and he never do anything to resolve it. He promised Ruyi to be always on each other side multiple times but he failed her as much as he promised her. Ruyi's action before she past away was awesome though! She cut all the memories with him🤣 and ofcourse his typical reaction was predictable!

But while women in this film didn't have much choice in real life we can choose. There are many good men. And if all you meet are similar to this emperor that mins just that you don't judge of character at all or you are similar to consort Gia so you're two of a kind with these men. Even in the film were Ling Youngchang and this prince.

Context: Ling Yueche is the former guard, who got framed and later turned into a eunuch as a punishment from the Emperor due to baseless jealousy and rumors that the Queen and the guard have feelings for each other. He was caught, tortured, emasculated, and sent back to the Queen to humiliate both of them. Afterwards he was still caught and tortured some more, while the Queen tried to find some way to prove their innocence. But Hailan (the grieving mother of the dead prince in this episode), who is the Queen's most loyal sister, knew that even with evidence it won't be enough to dissuade the Emperor. So she went to see Ling Yueche personally, they both agreed that in order to take away suspicions from the Emperor, Hailan will execute Ling Yueche under the orders of the Queen (even though she did not give such orders). Ling Yueche, her most devoted guard who had selflessly protected and loved her the most, willingly died for the Queen's sake. So the concubine here is framing the Queen by taking advantage of the dead prince, saying that the Queen also loved Ling Yueche and so is vengeful towards Hailan for killing the guard. Hailan knew better, though. But the Emperor nevertheless bought the accusations up, as always.

Like what I care about the most here is to see how heart-wrenching it is as Ruyi's trying to reach out to his deceased boy despite held back from it and bombarded with accusations by her own husband. He even has the audacity to talk about taking away her empress certificate while he knows for sure albeit being helplessly denial, that she won't give a goddamn shit about it and their miserable marriage. I really hate his guts

In this show the concubines are all fighting for position either for their sons to be the next emperor. This man was ruthless and should have kept the number of women at a minimum. They all plotted agaunst each other and people died for nothing. He is the cause of all the pain that happened. Its such a painful drama to watch i ended up watching only 38 episodes due to seeing the suffering ruyi went through. Being framed and he does absolutely nothing. He doesn't know the women he married. Nxaa

Not all of them though fortunately. Plenty of the women had each other's backs and supported each other. Only some of them were so bad and were able to manipulate very naive concubines to do their bidding.

Ruyi was the truest pure heart of all the people surrounding the Emperor. Yet in the end when she chose to stick to her principles and died alone from Tuberculosis, he wouldn't even give her the proper burial she deserved as an Empress, and even struck her name out form all the imperial records. My heart breaks when I see those scenes. I think this was based on a real historical person, if I'm not mistaken.

Dude I fucking love those shoes! I want to wear a pair so bad just to see how to walk on them. Also, in a cast interview the cast members said that they were hard to walk on and I think the actress that plays Consort Shu ended up breaking them. But Zhou Xun said in the same interview that sometimes she wears them at home for no reason at all 🤣

Well in fact Yongqi has always been Qian Long's fav son...in every history i've read Qian long loved him the most even after his death Qian Long was always remembered him and 27 years after yongqi's death when Qianlong met British envoy George Macartney he told the latter that he regarded Yongqi highly because of his many talents and that it was a pity that he died early....probably Yongqi was the only son whose death that made him very sad and the least he can't accept....faith has been so pity for Yongqi he inherited all the best DNA from his parents except their's longevity

In those days it was a curse to be born women. They were used as chattels, for political marriages, disregarded, with no rights. You belonged to your husband to do as he wished and of course he had plenty of “wives” to pleasure him. What more the emperor who was regarded as the ruler of the world, God’s chosen one! Most of them had hundreds of women in his harem, some who would never see or serve him. The earlier dynasties had wives buried with them! Despite a life of luxury and indulgence, I thank God to be in this era!

@@meimei1919, everyone was chattel in those days. Everyone had a role to play in the family and society, and if they didn't do their job, then they were either imprisoned, tortured, disowned or killed, depending on the situation.
