This described my Fritz pretty well. Stubborn YES!! But I loved that in him. My bloodline is German and Irish &English. I'm Stubborn too. He and I made a great pair. I miss my baby. He'd gotten anel gland cancer. The doctor gave him X time of life. Fritz was Stubborn VERY!! He lived almost 2 years after his diagnosis. He didn't let anything stop him. His last months we took him to the Zoo. He had sooo much FUN. I'd gotten him a doggy stroller, all the attention he got he loved. He was 13 1/2 years old. We were perfect for each other. I loved him so much, called him my son with 4 leggs. I'd love to get another Dashhound one day.

If you are looking for a dog with character, the dachshund is for you. They are bright, creative, ferocious, loyal, funny, loving and excellent watch dogs. My two dachels loved my cats as well. My wife was always jealous because of the closeness I had with my beauties. One lived 17 years and the other 15. My long haired lady was black on the outside, red underneath, and had a gold belly. She was the most beautiful animal I had ever seen. She was bred from champions. Once you have had a dachshund you are a dachshund lover for life. They are that special.

We have our third Dachshund. She came to us when she was ten. She celebrates her 15th birthday in June. Our first was a red short haired and we brought her home from a bird store!! She lived with us for 17 years. Our second was a long haired and we had him from a puppy. He left us at 14 years. There are definitely personality differences between short haired and long haired. We love them all. Dachshunds are stubborn and demanding. That’s why we love them. 🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾❤

I love my dachshund. Incredibly loyal, loving, fun, and playful. She barks at people but never bites, she even licks them when they pet her. She’s clingy and gets jealous easily, but that’s not a problem if you’ve disciplined her. She’s obedient, and she protects me even when she’s scared. She once protected me from a huge chow even when her tail was between her legs. She’s smart and has managed to open cages and remove her leash on her own. Incredible dog.

My doxies are always gonna be scared by people. If they don’t like what you do to them they will protect themselves. One time my uncle started annoying my bigger one in weight. He didn’t like it and bit. Also you should really expect more escaping. We have to dog proof our whole house for them.

I adopted one to save from shelter, he was thought to be already 5yrs old. We spent a great time together. Always on a leash, very incompatible with other dogs, extremely brave and have own will. But so loving, active, playful, confident. Amazing smell he always found out my turtle when our little fellow escaped. Amazing hearing once he was the only dog who heard robbers breaking into another building near my house. He was indoor dog, I was carrying him on stairs. My amazing best friend left me on 20th of February this year. He had hemangisarkoma, he was deaf two yrs before he died and also losing vision. Turmeric was saving his life until I put him asleep. Love u Snapi🖤💓my best friend

I grew up with doxies. The last one I had I miss the most. He lived 17 years, and when he did go, it wasn't through old age, it was through mis-adventure. He was very intelligent, very affectionate and very protective. Such a brave little man - he thought he was a much larger dog, and would often lead the group when socialising with other dogs. Although officially he was my younger brother's dog, he bonded with me, and he lived with me for 10 years, and he was my constant companion during those times. I highly recommend this wonderful breed for a family, but warn you most strongly to get ramps for your bed and lounge in particular. They will jump up easily, but the jumping down is what will do their backs damage.

I am owned by a mini wirehaired dachshund, and so pleased you chose to use the wire variety in your video. They are the true clowns of the breed and after falliing in love with one whilst owning a larger breed, decided that when it was time to "downsize" as I got older, I would get one. Now I wonder why I never got one before!!! Fantastic little dogs, or should I say big dogs in a pocket size. I am never going back to other breeds. I have found my soulmate!!!

First doxie was a shelter rescue, 10yrs old w/beautiful long haired dapple ...sweetest girl, lost her to doggie dementia @14yrs. Current girl is short haired black/brown brindle, and @ 2yrs old as semi-rescue, VERY different challenge vs senior dog...now 8yrs old, such a sweet companion. Definitely worth the work; stubbornness (which can translate to housebreaking issues if not immediately addressed), barking (until one understands the 'why', you won't break habit), and and literally parking themselves & looking opposite direction when not wanting to do something - laugh thru the challenges/training, understand their personality & motivations, and stay consistent, you'll have best friend forever:)

I bought my 2nd Daschund about 5 months ago. Our 1st passed at 15. Trouper is a long haired, silky coated shaded cream color. ( dark cream with black around his ears and tail. Registered as a minature chocolate sable. His Dad was double ee cream and Mom is white with black spots.Dad is 10lbs. Mom is 11lbs. Trouper is 8.4 at 8 months so I'm sure he will be bigger than either parent. His personality is 100% different than what your video described. ( it could have been written about our last Daschund ) He is very timid around people ( other than family ) Scared of cats and other dogs ( except our 112lb Boxer ) and has acres to dig in but no interest in digging. We live where no leash is required and he could go outside alone anytime he wanted but doesn't. We take him out about every other hour, and walk him to the end of the road a couple times a day. He also likes to play in the field as long as one of us stands and watches him. He is very clingy, snuggly and loving. Not what we expected but we are over the moon in love with him.He loves to play and worships our big dog.

@DogCastTv, I for one like this video and would like to say to those that are complaining "GET A LIFE" !!! This video is informative and well put together with the best interests at heart. Videos like this make it easier for prespective dog owners to chose a breed that is suitable for them and their lifestyle. Whilst there are many dogs that need rescuing (including at bred specific rescues) it can be a very long waiting list of a number of years to get the dog you wish to own. This is why I went to a breeder reccomended by the British Kennel Club. Unlike getting a dog from a rescue, 6 years on I am still in touch with the breeder and they are alwasy available for advice when needed. Finally I would like to say please keep up the good work.

My wire-haired dachshund, Fausto, now 10, only has eyes for me - his master, friend, lover, pack-leader. Not at all interested in other dogs or humans, and resents latter touching or kissing me. Possessive! He is telepathic (I've experimented and proved this!). I'd never contemplate another dog after Fausto, NOR any human lover. He ticks all the boxes. Perfection. And others immediately clock this. Butch guys stop him in the street and start shedding tears. He talks and communicates constantly. He also copies. e.g., You lay your head on a pillow, so naturally I should lay mine on one! He is, in short, perfection.

Those are some beautiful healthy and well-trained dachshunds! My family had a dachshund as our first dog, and let me say it is a dog that is easy to fall in love with but also one that is very hard to control. They are stubborn, protective, agressive, mischievous, loud and proud. Controlling an agressive dog is more than just being able to physically restrain it.

I have an 8 month old male dachshund puppy and hes been great at training in all other aspects except aggression (he was the biggest dog of his litter), and we finally realized we needed help with it and hand a professional trainer do private lessons with us and now hes well on his way to being a well behaved boy. The trainer said it was the "prey instinct" coming out that was causing him to bite us all the time. Now we are keeping him leashed in the house 24/7 and if he bites we yank the leash quickly (but not too hard) 2 times and say no and hold him away from us about a foot. It's an unpleasant sensation for them so they learn quickly that there is nothing rewarding in nipping at us. We also reward him with treats often when he listen to a command. Hes extremely smart and actually very sweet at heart, he just happens to have a higher hunter prey instinct than some other doxies we know. So this video is totally correct that they will exploit your inconsistency and any weaknesses in training if you let them.

@@sammoore9120, Dogs are inherently agressive animals. They descend from wolves, wich are pack hunting predators. They are territorial and will kill intruders that don't belong to their flock. Wolves even fight within their pack for the position of alpha, and they even kill pups of other males in their pack. Dogs have been domesticated, and by that process, they have lost most of those traits that make them dangerous to humans. But dogs have been kept by humans to help keep intruders away, to kill vermin, to aid in hunt with the humans and even to be used as weapons. Aggressiveness has been a desired trait, -to a certain extent. For ten thousand years, dogs and humans have lived together. Only in the last hundred years or so have dogs been considered companions only. It is completely natural that dogs have a propensity for agressive behaviour. It is a trait that has been desired, and in many cases, it still is. Different breeds have different traits. What we might consider a "bad" trait, may be considered "good" in a different context. Aggressiveness in smaller dogs are tolerated to a larger extent than in big dogs. A yappy chihuahua is a nuicence at worst, where an equally agressive Great Dane would be completely unaxeptable around people. In Scandinavia where I live, Dachshunds are very popular as hunting dogs. They are bred for this purpouse. Dachshunds with a good hunting dog pedigree are often ferociously stubborn and fearless, but also intelligent and independent. This makes them good hunters. It also makes them more of a challenge to train and to control. It is easy to be fooled by the Dachshund's size and "cute" appearence that they aren't going to have the instincts of a very old breed of working/hunting dog. That's all.

We lost our 13 year old Dachshund to cancer last year. We also have a seven year old. We got a 6 week old pup in May. I had forgotten just how stubborn Dachshund puppies can be. He is a tyrant for sure.

So sorry to hear that! Mine died to cancer as well but she was only 7 years old. Still she's with me, since I still dream of her often times after 20 years. She was my best friend and I loved her more than anything. I bet you love your lil sausages to bits too ♥ tyrant or not, they're adorable. But u know how to handle him :)

We had a red one. Come to our house a few years ago. I called him Red and he de coded to stay. to stay. I couldn’t find his owner. It gave him a choice to stay or go. He stayed. He chose us as his new home. Still have him. Oh, he loves to go to the ocean and jump in.

Oh my gosh!! About 7 years ago my son fell upon our now Dachshund ( Nyla) all black smooth haired Dachshund. Once we covered our bases, we went door to door in the area Nyla was found. Checked all the local kennels in our area. No one had reported her missing. So we got her vaccinated and spayed. Anyways to make a long story short. Our yard was fenced in so course we'd let her wonder the yard ( supervised of course). On this particular day my son ran in the house to get his phone, came back No Nyla!! We called for her for hours, drove around the neighborhood still NO Nyla. At this point we're all worried she may of been stolen or God only knows. We get back to the house after being gone like an hour now. Who's seating on the step?? Nyla!! Come to find out she had got under the shed where a family of groundhogs had built a den. Nyla literally was under the shed for HOURS!! I mean HOURS she had us so scared!! From that point on we made sure there wasn't any openings around the shed for her to get under and vanish for hours. She definitely lived up to her God given gift of digging 😂

The older fella at 1:05 makes me even more crazy for a dachshund. I've been wanting one as a friend for years but now I'm seriously considering wire haired (I never normally like rough or wire hair style coats on dogs but those ones made me change my mind instantly 😮) I think this video is well put together and I found it very useful, thank you 🙏

The "wire hair" Dachshund breed are known for physical ailments and die sooner than long- and short-hair Dachshunds ... study and talk with your local veterinarian before buying a wire hair Dachshund.

Going up and down stairs and jumping does not hurt a weenies back it’s the way ppl carry them they hang them over one arm and that’s how they gets dachshund paralysis not jumping when you pick them up you gotta support there whole long body there not a chihuahua but ppl try to carry them like they are and that’s what screws there back up mine used to jump off a 4.5ft tall porch several times a day hell he still jumps at his age and it’s not affecting his back at all

I tell people, you don't own a dachshund, the dachshund owns you. If you want to make friends, then go hunting with one. Just walk with them, and if they need a hand with a rock, help move it. Help, not do it yourself. To rodents, minis are the terror of the night, and day. My last one, Bubba der Shrek (terrible baby, named for my youngest son, then in Iraq) and I did a lot of hunting together. He was from Penna, so mining was in the blood. He was always excavating here (Arizona) hoping to catch that elusive golden ground squirrel, but never caught on to the fact they have multiple exits.

I have an 8 month old Male Dachshund puppy hes been great at training in all other aspects except aggression (he was the biggest dog of his litter), and we finally realized we needed help with it and hand a professional trainer do private lessons with us and now hes well on his way to being a well behaved boy. So this video is totally correct that they will exploit your inconsistency and any weaknesses in training if you let them

They have the biggest personalities and think they own the show. They are sassy little sausages, my short-haired miniature boy sounds like a massive dog when he barks at the doorbell :) My boy was incredibly fit, with a toned, and slim body. Sadly he still developed IVDD and cost close to £7000 pounds for surgery and physio. If you are considering any low- slung breed I'd recommend you have maximum guaranteed insurance. Teach them, from the start, not to go onto the sofa or bed. They are fearless and will jump on and off things; especially, they can't resist launching themselves off any furniture they've sprung up onto if they hear someone coming to the door. Enjoy your dachshund, but research IVDD

Well, this showed up in my recommends, so here I am and take my "like." Our family has had two dachshunds. Oscar was a standard short hair that we got when I was stationed in Louisiana. (I'm retired Air Force). He went to Okinawa with us but he couldn't go to the UK with us due to a heart murmur. We had to leave him in the States but we left him with my mother in law and she took good care of him until we got back from England. While in England we got Emma, a miniature longhair. We got back to the states and her and Oscar got along great. (along with our two cats) We took both to Minot ND with us where Oscar, who was old at the time, passed while we were there. He lived to be 17. I retired from the Air Force, we moved back to our home state. We had a few more good years with Emma but she passed when she was 16 and half. They were both great dogs and we hope to get another dachshund some day soon. They are some stubborn but loyal companions and we love those dogs.

It is vital to be very cautious about caring for the dogs spine. They are VERY prone to IDD which leads to some insanely high vet bills. They are an amazing dog but great care needs to be taken to ease the burden on their long spine.

My first Dachshund was like that & very social. But, the second one (Dachshund/ Chihuahua mix) is the opposite. I have 2 other non- dachshund dogs that she basically ignores. She doesn't hate them or anything & I like to think that she likes having them in the background, but she never shows signs of missing them if they're gone. She shows more emotion toward people coming & going than she does my other animals.

Our 4minis dont know they should mostly hunt rabbits. They did come off a bit the worse with a porcupine though. Tenacious hunters, rarely on lead, took decision to give them as much freedom as possible rather than deny their instincts. Sometimes they even come back to our whistles. Ha ha. Pure joy.
