I've never been a fan of the whole see through thing because of how distracting it is and how messy it makes everything look along with the light bleeding issues so I got the black version. To me it looks so much better, makes the 556's incredible screen stand out a lot more and hides fingerprints better. I'm kind of OCD about keeping things clean so I keep a few 4"x4" microfiber cloths and a small 1oz spray mist bottle filled with Flawless screen cleaner in my RG556 case.

Also apparently if you use the dropdown menu for the joystick lights and hold for a few seconds you can dim the ring around them...

Great video, thank you. My personal all time favorite Android hand held is the GPD XD+. Best overall mix of compactness, performance and capability I've ever come across and I still play it all the time. But its dated chips and Android 7 OS is showing its age so I started looking for an upgrade and picked up the 556 in black. Wow do I love this thing. It costs the same as the GPD XD+ did 5 years ago, but packs way more punch on every front except compactness. Fine by me because the 556 is so freaking comfortable to hold. I have medium size hands so the thumbsticks feel great to me, the button layout is perfect, action buttons are just the right mix of click and mush to me, same for the d pad. My GPD is fingerprint friendly too, but I don't count this as a legit minus, I always clean my handhelds after using them anyway. I think the 556 is the best retro/GooglePlay handheld Anbernic has ever made, and just my opinion but dollar for dollar the best overall Android handheld currently available. It's so damn good. My one and only gripe is that it doesn't come with a case, but I scored a nice one for ten bucks on Amazon. Thank you again for this very thoughtful and informative video.

You said all those systems run well, but you didn’t mention if you were able to upscale. No point in having that nice 1080P screen if you can’t upscale the 3-D systems. Did you have good luck with that?

any problem with saving game progress? i have problem with that on my anbernic RG35xxh while playing GOW, pokemon and GTA... but wierd thing is monster hunter got no problem with saving game progress

As an ROG Ally owner, I was looking for something smaller and easier to handle for game streaming and emulation. I am already returning it. The speakers are good but nowhere near the crispness of the Ally. WiFi 5 is super limiting. I have a 6E router and the Ally’s WiFi 6 allows me to stream at 1080p 120fps. The RG556 was stuttering on the exact same location on a local stream at only 60fps. The joysticks area real shame considering how good those grips are. Hard to be accurate. Finally, and again this is only because I already have an Ally, the performance is just not worth the price to me. PS2 games in particular look awful at standard res and you can’t push them further most of the time. For now I’m sticking with my Ally but will look into the RP4P or possibly the AYN Odin 2 mini with that mini LED screen. If the screen slaps, they bump it to 120hz and WiFi 6 that will be my next pocket handheld.

I have medium size hands and I think the thumbsticks are excellent. Not as robust as the sticks on the P4P but nonetheless excellent, very responsive and comfortable and their placement is perfect.

Nope both are great as long as you can hit 100mb up and down you'll hit 4k 60 easy which this is only 1080p

😂not true I own a 556 and pr4 and he obviously didn't test the 556 wifi cause it's unfortunately unusable if u aren't right next to ur access point .. step 2 feet away and ur 556 just freezes

First you need to have time to wait like 3 weeks to recive it. After, you have to decide if you want to use about half of your sallary for this device. (Here the normal sallary is about 500€/month.

Dang, it is expensive but I think it's worth the price it's going for. On the Anbernic website you can grab it for cheaper around $190 without a SD card.

It might be a small thing for some people but that thing is slipping out of my sweaty nerd hands before I even pick it up... which is so sad because it looks like it's comfortable to hold and perfectly capable of some really impressive gaming. Does it feel shiny or slippery as you hold it? Would you consider it more comfortable than the retroid 4/pro? Super helpful video, thankyou! Edit: the black one looks like it'd solve the slippery issue but at the cost of sick translucency 😢

⁠yeah, it's just straight cheap. There are other coatings or materials where oily hands make it a questionable choice BUT they have benefits as well. Think the onexfly with its soft touch material. I wash my hands constantly and have dry skin to begin with. It almost never looks dirty after I use it but I've seen some absolutely filthy ones. So, YMMV but picking at a reviewer pointing out an obvious'meh' quality of a device because you're OK with a device that can look grungy with no physical benefit (clear plastics can be done well and be fingerprint resistant simultaneously) is weird
