i bought a steam deck on a whim, expecting to return it, but interested in trying it out. Im absolutely obsessed with this thing. its so much better than I even hoped for

Got my Oled 512 GB about a week ago. Although i have multiple gaming setups (Series x, Gaming PC, few retro's), this thing has taken the majority of my game time since. The screen is fantastic, the overall feel is great. I have big hands, it just feels like it's the perfect size for me. All of a sudden I'm playing ps2 games again with the emulator, playing Gran turismo 3/4 on a handheld is so much fun! I also got World of Warcraft working, one of those games i keep coming back to. And I haven't even bought a Docking station yet to connect it to my living room TV, really excited to get one and hook it up :) This thing is awesome, best thing i bought all year :D Thanks for the vid! I picked up a 512gb oled and grabbed a 2tb ssd during BF sales. Quick maths ended up spending same money as 1tb model, so happy with my purchase.

Yup with SteamOS (Arch Linux)/Proton (Wine) there's no competition.

the steam deck in general is one of the best pieces of hardware I've ever owned. I kind of want to sell mine to get the newest 1tb oled though of course haha.

I'd say don't buy the Steam Deck if you don't venture away from the socket. For your lazy bed gaming needs, controller and moonlight streaming to smartphone or tablet you ALREADY OWN from your main gaming machine will be a better solution. Steam Deck is absolutely amazing and by far unmatched by anything else out there but realistically, a lot of people that buy it were never handheld gamers and their idea of handheld means moving from behind the desk to the chair on the balcony. They don't NEED the Deck's functionality (nor are they using any of it's unmatched strengths). It's definitely the best handheld offering out there and by a large margin too, but if one is looking for a gaming machine on a budget, you can build more performant PC with those price ranges, especially if you're willing to take advantage (and risk) of the second hand market. As for "competition" - none of them understood the assignment and it gives me a solid gag reflex whenever I hear about yet another SD killer... that's worse in just about any way that matters.

I've really been looking into the Steam deck as it would be great to play my Steam library on the go

would it be dumb to ditch my switch and use this as my main rig? Most of the games I own, minus Zelda and Mario franchises, are on steam/deck. the switch is the highest tech I've played on, so a lot of the ps4 games like rdr 2, god of war, etc. look fantastic on the deck from what I have seen

@DaveyG Hey nicely done review! I'm interested in buying the Oled Steam Deck, but are worried that it isn't a good fit for my hands... I think I have pretty much average sized hands. My Hands are 17-17,5 cm long 9,5-10 cm wide (with the thumb) and I have a hand span of 22 cm (measured from the index finger to the pinky, spread apart as wide as you can). Could you maybe measure your handsize this way? That would be of great help!

This seems like a genuinely good investment. Unfortunately, I can't get one just yet because: 1. I'm going on holiday tomorrow, and have long since lost enough time to set up another unit beforehand. 2. I live in Australia and can't get one officially. But I'm looking into spending extra money on a user modified version that adds even more space, because that's what I got the first time and it really paid off. 3. I need to save enough money to afford said modded version of the OLED model.

I'm on the fence for one, so many different options and costs and not sure what to do. I don't play pc a ton, but I am very intrigued by the thought of taking it wherever. The game I play the most is modded B03 zombies. Is it worth it? Do I get LCD or OLED?

I think playing favourite on big screens will be much worth than on a small screen.. but exclusive portable games maybe better for steam deck, but, I wouldn't hinder my game experience just to get portability

No lie I enjoy it because I can play games don’t aren’t supposed to mobile in handheld form like cyberpunk or bg3 also the switch emulation why mod my switch and get banned when I can use my steam deck

i love it how all reviewers have small mistakes in the videos. its nothing major. i think u missed the 6nm apu change. also steamos is an arch based distro with kde- and gamemode desktop environment. the ally can be suffering if the user dislikes touch-only inputs. legion go can run linux well too similar to ally, mostly, which can mean the two hanhelds could outlast steamdeck for some games
