As a Dutch person when I heard the DM say "They use Dutch names in Dune" all I can think about is naming my characters something like "Gert-Jan Cornelis Huygendoorn" and have the English DM try to pronounce that every time.

@@truth7921 actually, based on the last video up on SoB, it sounds like Jared and the other behind the scenes folx at Stream of Blood are joining GCN as employees, rather than like GCN acquiring SoB. Because like the Stream of Blood YT & Twitch channels are staying up, they just aren't going to be utilized much, given that they'll be dedicating their time to GCN endeavors instead. But it still sounds like it's a really good move for everyone involved with Stream of Blood, and I think it's gonna do GCN some good, too!

I loved Dune the novel the first time I read it years ago. Never got to reading the other novels though till recently. I ran a game of this that just came to its finale recently, and I feel that the game has reawaken my love of thus universe. It's what got me to finally start reading the other five novels.

Fun Ep! Looking forward to this game. Paltering is when someone tells the truth in a way to intentionally mislead the listener. Another fun and potentially useful word: fabulist. A fabulist can be a creator of fables, a professional teller of tales [obsolete, but due for a comeback], and an inventor of falsehoods.

ross was right, it's equivocating. that's when you arent telling a lie but can deceive with vagaries and omissions of truth. enigma comes from a greek word meaning 'to speak in riddles' so enigmatic could be appropriate to describe someone who talks in riddles.

@@BGcam i think duplicitous would imply intentional deceit by saying something untrue, but theres a lot of ambiguity in the english language. i found an article titled 'Lying: An Augustinian Theology of Duplicity' and 'The Definition of Lying and Deception' from the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy that discusses some of this ambiguity. interesting how much people have written about stuff like this lol

For my 2 cents, I think that Canli is more like a duel in which one calls another out to be tested. Now perhaps it is true that underhanded means are employed yet the essential Canli is a fight between rivals. On even terms, hand to hand or with pre-determined weapons, each combatant arrives with equal measure. The outcome is determined by prowess and form of puissance. The idea is that a duel to the death is based on skill and the winner will be the one who demonstrates the highest competency according to that skill. An dispute settled by Canli is irrevocable according to ancient traditions of honor.

I know not much of Dune & can recall only half of that, but I am so looking forward to this. Does anyone know whether the rules allow you to play, say, a Mentat but swap out the Comms skill with a different one? I was working up my own character watching this & wanted it to be a Mentat who took a blow to the head & now understands machinery on the same level as the rest of them understand raw data (but with absolutely no clue how to read a spreadsheet).

Out of the dozens of hours of him GMing I've watched him do, I literally don't think I've ever seen him do that - especially after CHECKING ACTUAL THE RULES OF THE GAME THAT HE'S ACTUALLY PLAYING?!?😱 I'm just going to presume that this is a result of moving to GCN, and no longer have any sadness about the end of Stream of Blood as an active entity.

I kind, of course. But only a little bit. 😘 Love Jared; I just wish he told players "no" more than he does. I believe that *is* part of a GM's role, to be an arbiter of the rules. "Yes, and..." is not like a proscribed answer in all situations & circumstances.

I'm a bit late, but fairies are truthful but dishonestly obfuscatory. One might say, devious, deceitful and tricky. For talking around in circles rather than sticking to the narrow point, one could use circumlocutionary. Circumlocationariness is often down to being easily distracted, so obfuscatory would be much better for a meticulous house.

I think the word is circumlocative. Also, Houdini’s real name was Erich Weisz but he nicked the name from Jean-Eugene Robert-Houdin, who was also a conjurer.
