Literally paused it at 4:49 to write this review... I thought you were so wrong by saying all the other tutorials were terrible, but after starting this video, I would echo everything you said. You explain everything in such a digestible way. Truly a great tutorial and I will now point all of my friends to this video to learn as well! I appreciate the video. Beyond helpful. Cheers!

Thank you for your tutorials on how to play Backgammon. I’ve always been curious about this game. My mom told me she was just as curious recently so I got her Backgammon for her birthday and we have been trying to figure it out. We found a few videos on backgammon but can’t say they helped us that much until we stumbled upon your tutorials. You explain it all very well and it’s so helpful. My mom also thanks you. Now we can enjoy playing Backgammon.

Your tutorial's are very easy to follow (Watched all of them). You taught great with clear, easy instructions. Your strategy advice was great too. I recently took an interest to broaden myself with classic challenging games. Thanks to your tutorials I'm now enjoying playing on my iPhone. Great Job!!!!

Thank you for being the guy who explains the terminology before diving into the rules. Very annoying when someone doesn't do that. It made learning several games from others harder, and whenever I need to make a functional or technical analysis I make sure to start it off with a glossary.

Just to clarify, the person who rolls the highest gets to decide any location for the checkers, is any possible wrong way of to locate them, must it allways be five on your 6, three on your 8, five on your 13 & the last on the 24 & must the apponent mirror, you said here is what "I" do must that be the way for anyone or is that just what you personaly do

Hi, could possibly clarify something for me. I am just starting to learn the game, but I am also trying to teach my brother at the same time. We seem to have a difference of opinion about one of the rules. It is my understanding that when bearing off, if I have checkers on points numbered lower than the pips on the rolled dice, I can remove checkers on any points numbered lower. e.g if I have counters on say, points 1,2 and 3 only, but roll a 5 and a 6, I can remove counters from the next available lower point, in this case the 3 point. However, my brother says that is cheating, and I should only be able to remove checkers from points whose numbers correspond to the pips on the dice, again, if I have checkers on 1,3 and 3 points only, but roll say a 5 and a 6, I have to forfeit my turn

I play just for the fun and skill. I am good but no hi-roller by a long shot. As much as I hate to I am willing to compete with them if I knew a program where I could do the same as them. Do you have any idea what that might be. I sure would love to know. Am tired of players always coming out of the 1st roll with 4/4 or 5/5 or 5/3 or 1/1 or 6/6 the second they get behind out come the doubles come rolling out like crazy. Funny how every roll keeps their stones exactly paired.

As a complete beginner, I found two other 'simple' explanations far too rapid - I had to keep pausing and replaying - and in places unclear. This is a little wordy at the beginning, I think, but the explanation is well-paced and clear ... and therefore effective. Thanks! I'll now go on to stage two - How to Move the Checkers. 🙂

My mum used to play with a friend of hers and she tried to teach me numerous times but I just didn't get it so I gave up trying to learn. However, I thought I'd try to learn again. My mum passed away so I looked to youtube for help and the first video I saw was titled something along the lines of "easiest backgammon tutorial".... I opened that video and 2 minutes in I was like WTF?! Then I went back to look for another and found this one. It's easy to follow what you are teaching and I am yet to watch the 2nd video but I can tell already that I'll be playing backgammon a lot sooner than I thought. Thank you so much for this tutorial!!!! It has helped me big time :)

Is there an official side for the home board for the light and dark pieces (and likewise an official direction of play)? For example, in this video, you show dark's home board to be the lower right quadrant (from the perspective of dark), while the light's home board is in the lower left (from the perspective of the light). On other tutorials, I see it set up oppositely (dark's home board being lower left, and light's home board being lower right--both from their respective perspectives). Thanks in advance.

Bit harsh saying the others were terrible - some simply go faster than yours and that suits more advanced gamers. Your explanation is good in that it slows things down, starts with explaining names of the board elements. The other tutorials do the same too, but a bit faster. What is confusing about your explanation is that you’ve numbered the points but as they apply to your side and not our side. For us watching, the path runs from your 24 down to 1. At least you didn’t number both ways at once, but it would have been clearer if you sat on our side (viewer side) and we looked over your shoulder, and the numbering was then reversed. Good start anyway.

In arabic countries like my country lebanon, we play 3 types of backgammon: -Franjiyeh: its the one ur explaining -Mahbouseh: its similar to Franjiyeh, except there are no captures, once u land on a piece u stay on it and not let it move until u move out of the way -31: u need to make bridges of one pieces to be able to escort all ur pieces to the other side of the board. I dont know if u do know these games!
