Beginner Beekeeping Supplies - The California Beekeeper

Күн бұрынFollow along as Jose Uribe, a Northern California Commercial Queen Breeder and Beekeeper, heads to Mann Lake Bee & Ag Supply store in Woodland, California, to pick up a few bee supplies with Max, our 5-year-old mini beekeeper. While there, he shares information about what supplies you will need to prepare yourself as a beginning beekeeper.

If you are new to our channel, welcome! We are a small family-owned and operated micro-commercial apiary in Northern California. We've been commercial beekeeping for the past 13 years, but branched off and opened Uribe Honey Bees in January 2019 and then launched our KZfaq channel in April 2020. We specialize in queen breeding, pollination services, hive management, and brokering.

Jose, it’s great to see a full video from you! Max is and has been my hero every since I saw him the first time. With those dance moves like he was doing, you may loose him to Dancing with the Stars! I hope the pollination is going good for you. It’s heating up here, I found drone brood in some hives yesterday. Good Luck and I hope that you have a record season!

You mentioned getting bees in your suit, in case you didn't already know this, there is a gap where the zipper comes together for the hood. This is under a velcro flap on the back of the suit. If you put a piece of tape over it you will be bee free inside the suit. I love the Pro vent suits but used to get bees sharing my personal space. The first thing I do when I open a new suit is put the tape over the place where the zippers come together, my suits are bee free ever since. Thank for the video, missed seeing your content.

Haha That is exactly what it can be, an agitator for the bees😆 maybe I should have not recommended to have in your first year. I have always found it more useful to brush bees off myself before jumping in the truck. Thanks for watching DC🤙 We are greasing the wheels because we're about to go fast with the season approaching.

I must be the exception, I don't mind getting stung, I'd always opted for 25 stings a year. Then I read a scientific paper that states 250 stings are needed to be fully vaccinated.

To start I would recommend a full jumpsuit. Protective gear is very important starting off so that you enjoy the experience. After a year a pollinator jacket would be great. I have booth just incase

Lol. Well @Papa Bear, it only took that one hit for us to easily decide to not run Nucs in that canyon. As we continue to grow and expand we will try to run a small number closer to the area where they are in site of the groundskeeper.
