Looking good, Matt, as usual! Good to see a short video that explains in working detail many of the concepts and actions taken to achieve a good DE shave. While I've used these techniques [and others] I'll see questions often as to what this or that means, or asking for how-tos. I was using a few before anyone gave them 'official' names simply because during decades of wet shaving I've tried change-ups, especially on my chin with thin/tight/curved areas being problematic and my neck being both sensitive and one side growing in crop-circle patterns. This video sums it up nicely, in just over 10 minutes too. Excellent!

Found a wealth of helpful information in this video. After nearly 50 years of twin edge cartridge shaving, your videos convinced me to try safety razor shaving, starting with the Parker semi-slant. What an amazing difference! After only a couple tries, I'm getting the smoothest shaves of my life. Thank you, Matt, for all the informative videos. Please keep 'em coming!!

I did my first safety razor shave tonight and I did a decent job. It's a new thing to learn that takes practice. I have lots of practice ahead of me. It is an art. Thanks for this tutorial! It really helped!

Good video. A couple of these techniques could possibly improve my shaves, and a couple of others I already use, or use techniques that are similar. You are helping me keep an open mind after being in somewhat of a rut, as some of my techniques work well, and others need improving.

Good to have the basic principles in mind from the start, with the individual needing time to find what their particular needs will be, towards that perfect shave!

I guess it's something that I learned when I was in the military. Any stubble is unacceptable. I have to shave against the grain. If I don't, I look as if I need to shave within a matter of just a few hours. Way before that so called, "5 O'clock", shadow is supposed to appear. I can use the sharpest blade around like a "Feather" and I still need to re-lather and go back against the grain. Avoiding excessive pressure is a must to avoid razor burn, though, especially in the neck region. I guess being of Southern European descent doesn't help matters much, either. Thanks for taking the time to make this video. All of the best.

Hi Matt. I’m tall (6’7”) and slim like you. I have big trouble around my Adams apple. I see that I’m not stretching my skin enough. I believe I’m using too much pressure. I carry a large beard but I keep it sharp and I shave above and below. Thanks for the video.

I have a mole under my chin . Sometimes I cut it . ( I am still learning ) now I use the cartridge razer over that spot . What do you think I should do ? Try to learn to go over it with the safety razer ? Thanks .

Hi, great video! I've just started using a safety razor, though it still tugs at my skin even with a brand new blade. Any advice? Thanks.

I'm going to try that bull frog technique next time I shave. Being a larger gentleman I find it harder to stretch that skin and that just might be the ticket. Also you forgot to mention even blade exposure on both side of the razor.
@timmy334
@timmy334 6 жыл бұрын
Agreed! Getting the blade even on both sides is something that needs to be mentioned. Also, how tight to tighten your razor needs to be mentioned!

Great video! He has probably done it, but I will say I wasn't shaving until I have whacked my goatie...that is the hardest part to get BBS and a challenge whereas my cheek area while think and coarse, was much easier compared to the upper lip and chin.

what are the advantages of using that brush to lather? why not just fingers?
@RazorEmporium
@RazorEmporium Ай бұрын
1) exfoliation 2) lifting up hair 3) building a lather not smearing it on 4) 99% of products in this hobby are hard soaps and need to be mixed into a lather using a brush, trying to do it with your hands would take a whole lot of time and produce a pretty crappy result.

That was a wonderful presentation, thank you! Could you please let me know whether engraving my name on a chrome finish brass razor( like the ones manufactured by Parker) with an engraving pen as available on Amazon, harm the razor in any manner? Thanks and regards, Dr. Basu( India)
@RazorEmporium
@RazorEmporium 2 жыл бұрын
If you penetrate the chrome finish, you will likely get chrome peeling and flaking off in the surrounding area. And the brass will corrode over time. Bad idea.

Hi Matt - 👋 I have a vintage DE Gillette razor and I bought the beginner pack of blades. I was advised by other women that they work great for them but I'm having trouble with getting a close shave. I think I might need a higher quality lather. Can you advise on any that are in a less masculine or neutral scent ? Or do you think maybe they're not ideal for body hair? I appreciate any advice you can give !

Ah, if only my beard hair wasn't evil, it takes 3 passes to get mostly smooth and I've blunted 3 feather blades significantly with just doing the first downwards pass. At least I've found how to avoid most shaving zits and the blind zits that plagued me in my cartridge razor days with moisturising.

What does he mean by “pre-shave rountine of some type”? Pre-shaving with different razor or just the wash your face is the pre-shave.
@batrachianbill9760
@batrachianbill9760 2 жыл бұрын
I know this was four years ago, but it's worth saying. Pre-shave routine basically just means washing your face, filling your sink with warm water, and the like.

😂 if that's the case then you're not being gentle enough & it's normal to get cut a few times while learning plus some of these techniques should be reserved until your proficient with the down stroke. 🤘🏼
