I always tried using the sun to determine which way I was heading but always felt like I was heading slightly diagonal when trying to reach a destination. You confirming the sun is in the Southern Hemisphere was such helpful news and I can put my theory to rest. Thank you!

Slick ending, really slick! Out of the literally thousands of DayZ videos out there, this is the one is probably one of the most useful I've ever seen.

navigation tips- Navigate by clouds, stars, shadow, sun, moon, electrical lines, hiking paths, compass. You can navigate by using your very own shadow, shadow of tree or building. Keep the coast, moon or sun at your back. Do this by noting where the sun or moon is at in the sky when you look back over your shoulder by using your quick look keys. Then just check it every 5 minutes to make sure you are lined up to where you want to go.(I keep the moon just over my left shoulder when I look back) You can follow power lines even on the darkest night because they will be the only things you can see in the dark sometimes. The moon also has moon rise and moonset just like the sun. When you see the moon getting lower on the horizon or sinking, daylight is just an hour away.

One of the things that helped me navigate back in arma 2 was city signs. I have learned russian so I knew exactly where I was. I love to watch people who don't know kirillitsa trying to understand where they're at lol.

Starting from Berezino, I just follow the main road south until I reach Elektro (I read the road signs) take a right turn once you reach the military camp in the town and keep driving north until you hit Stary/Novy sobor, turn left, drive straight through a village with a farm on the right, pass the last house of that village and take the right turn, then another right turn, you've made it to the Military Airbase.

Once I learned the road/track tip, I tried to think of a memory aid. Hope this helps y'all. "Road before track, East to your back. Track before Road, Norths the way to go" So first is your on west so head east. And latter is south so head north. Thanks for the tips. You can also use the wind! I’ve found in Cherno looking at the trees that the wind always blows juuuuust a little left (south) of southwest.

Soon as you know where you are you can orientate yourself with a land mark and run in a straight line to the next town/ city this is the fastest way to travel on foot.

Can definitely say that the Compass being in your hotkey menu gives so VERY mixed results, I'm not took keen on relying on it. It will actively move as you turn, but you'll find more often than not, when you take it out, the needle fully seems to correct itself.

LOL. First thing i did back then, when this was still a mod, is to learn the cyrillic alphabet. That has paid off, i can now read a lot of those words.

I read on the steam forums you can use the MAP with GPS turned on together to determine your position but in haven't figure it out yet.

I’ve got a Russian translation book which I made that has all the important cities and towns in DayZ fully translated with the entire Russian alphabet, it was so easy to figure it out early game

I started playing about a week ago and I seem to always end up back where I started, I got as geared up as one can along the coast. I left Berinzino and did a giant circle and landed right back where I started it's kinda crazy. Yeah tried the sun thing once but I didn't know if the sun was rising or setting and I still did a big circle before I figured it out. Tried the compass thing in the hotbar it didn't work out very well. When I put the compass there the needls flips from where it was in 1st person so if it shows you travelling south I think your actually travelling north at least that's what it did for me.

Not sure if it's a big help, but if you place a compass in your hotkey menu and enter a car with the compass in your hand, you can driver normally but now you'll have the compass in the menu showing north.

Just FYI, the train tracks will ruin your shoes if you walk on them for a long time, so best to walk beside them. Great video tho thank s

xbox needs a map with markers and icons you may feel hardcore for not using one but not having it limits you so much deffo if you are a new player to or even semi good. you get more pay back for your time unless your in a sqaud on xbox it's rough i have built bases as a solo on pvp servers. quite alot but without map aids it can be really hard to get started quick and build something somewhere where your not goner lose it in like 2 or 3 days. with that map marker you can build somewhere much safer and actually enjoy having a base and have a chance to build something that may last a while. or even just a safer stash in the wood you can find. i get the day z loop but with navigation being slow and no markers and icons like on modded servers it can be really rough to get started as a solo and build a base and not waste all your time. and when u see what nezar and youtubers like him accomplish on there runs. it makes you see how much lesser the xbox version is without a map you just can't accomplish anything close in terms of raiding getting started up as a solo or roaming and getting back to your bases without massive hassle. I kinder don't wanna play xbox day z till it gets that tbh i played modded at my mates house for a few days with him and it was epic. we made stashes hidden to get started with icons we could run back to we managed to get a hidden base in the woods going after we got supplies which stayed unraided for a couple weeks after i left and by then he had built up and raided a few bases. had a car and stuff. you can do this on xbox but have fun building somewhere good and hidden and also finding your way back there fairly quickly. i just wanna feel a little more value for my time. on xbox you build a base somewhere out of the way it can be hard to find again. and it will probably be raided after 3 days unless you got a good few gates anyway.

Here’s another tip lid, when you need to commit suicide (like in your vid) but you only successfully break a leg.. just stand up, walk.. once you go Unconscious, press start and you get the option to Respawn. Instead of crawling back to where you jumped from again 🤣😁
