This how I teach new woodturners how to hollow out the inside of a bowl. Turning a wood bowl is a beautiful and rewarding woodworking project. The process involves selecting a piece of wood with an interesting grain pattern and turning it on a lathe to create a functional or decorative bowl. To turn a wood bowl, woodworkers must use a lathe and various chisels and gouges to shape the wood into the desired form. Sanding and finishing the bowl with a food-safe finish completes the project, resulting in a stunning, one-of-a-kind piece. These easy steps will have you turning your first bowl in no time.

Alright, I'm gonna give this a shot in a little while on some Cedar that I just cut for a platter/bowl. Now, I have 2 bowl gouges, one of which I made myself out of an old 1/4 spindle gouge that actually works great, but it's smaller. I have another one that's 5/8, but it has a swept back grind on it; I actually have another 5/8 x 1/2 on its way from Hurricane Tools right now. Would you suggest trying to do this with what I have or should I wait the day or two for my new gouge? Good video, man, I definitely learned something new. I was already doing the push cut with the twist on the bevel that you showed going in, but I haven't been using even pressure with my fingers, which is what I'm gonna try on a piece of scrap here in a while before doing whatever I'm gonna do with that Cedar. Thanks!

Thanks for watching I would hold off until you get the proper bowl gouge. Using a spindle gouge on bowls could cause the tool to break.
