Hi everyone. I'm back with some beginning techniques for you to try. These are some of the first techniques when I was in college and my take on them. I hope you will try them out.
My supplies include:
Robert Simmons White Sable Brush #10
Arches Cold Press Paper stretched on a Masonite board and taped with Craft Tape
Winsor & Newton Watercolors: Winsor Blue Green Shade, Permanent Rose, Winsor Yellow. These are the staining transparent colors, which I prefer.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! This was the first time in all my painting that I was able to achieve a flat wash. I have watched so many tutorials, and none of the advice and techniques have resulted in a perfectly flat wash. But thanks to your zigzag brushwork and seeing that jagged bead of water, my wash was gorgeously uniform. And I loved the blending of all the colors. Like you said, very meditative. :D

Im a little slow, so im honestly glad you pointed out you were left handed. Id have set everything up like you and wondered why it was so difficult for at least a week.

Excellent lesson, Jeannie. Thank you so much!! Makes me realize how important these meditative practices are for improving our skills as well as loosening up. I tend to be impatient and launch right into painting a picture and then wonder why I make so many mistakes! Practice & Play!!

want to thank you Jeannie for being so willing to share your techniques! you are an amazing teacher, and an amazing wc artist. You are an inspiration to me who has no experience with wc. I am hoping that I will have the courage to experiment and one day succeed on my wc journey...just wish I lived on the west coast in order to attend a class. thank you again for your generosity

Great video. I'm just learning watercolor and I tried another tutorial, but realized I just didn't know how to do a wash right. I went along with your video and it worked better, but it looks like my paper just doesn't hold enough water to make transitions quite as seamless as yours. I'll keep playing around with it and see if maybe I just didn't have enough pigment or vice versa.

I'm an absolute beginner, got all the supplies I need, even did a few projects, excited to begin I guess, before I even learned any real techniques. I was happy with the end result, but I'm going to start fresh with learning techniques. I have a question, do you have to stretch paper? I didn't know you have to do that. I mean it makes sense, but do I have to? Isn't that expensive for beginner to get something to do that? Can you explain or send a link about this to me

Is the board tilted?

I was just wondering the same thing....it looks like it’s slightly tilted.
@jeannievodden4029
@jeannievodden4029 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Jd and Carey. Yes, I forgot to mention that. My board is tilted. It's resting on a 4 x 4 piece of wood. That helps with the wash, of course. If you lay your paper flat you won't get that same movement down the paper. Thanks for asking! I'll remember to show how I've got it all set up in a future video.

I'm just learning. I thought all washes were wet on wet, but this looks like wet on dry?
@jeannievodden4029
@jeannievodden4029 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Helen, Yes, you can either wet the paper and paint (wet on wet), or paint directly on dry paper to achieve different effects. Happy to answer any questions you may have. :)
