When you give context to a team's adventures like this, it just makes it more interesting as a supporter to watch the matches. This is truly the future. Or at least I wish that it is the future and that everyone can emulate this for my selfish reasons because I love it so much.

SonicJaneStooge The Women's WC has been showing _a lot_ of children and "social" stuff in general. I dearly hope women enjoy that. For most men, sports is something to get away from all that, so let's keep the men's WC as it is.

Just read from Tobin Heath's Twitter .. Women soccer doesn't pay well...so the question: Other than going to their games, Is there any way we can show our support of women soccer worldwide? There gotta have some soccer foundation for all those wonderful ladies from all over the world ??

Thiny1991 Funny thing is, although the NWSL's attendance numbers aren't that great, they are still better than some of the top women's leagues around the world. The difference is, women's teams in Europe have stability since they're financially backed by the big-money men's clubs like Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, PSG, Bayern Munich, Ajax, etc. It would help if some of the richer MLS teams like LA Galaxy or Toronto FC decided to start NWSL teams...although the Portland Thorns and Houston Dash are a start.

+Thiny1991 It really does come down to going to the games and TV ratings. A sport will only generate big money through a television contract. FIFA is supposedly sitting on huge amounts of money (which I suspect has been embezzled) so they could certainly support development of woso worldwide, but I don't know how to get them to do it. We have to hope Blatter's replacement will bring change.

As a non-American I am quite shocked and almost appalled by how white and upper middle class the USA team is. How did the most inclusive and racial diverse sport in the world become so middle class and white in America? U.S. Soccer has a lot to answer for? Where are the Hispanic and black players in the USA team? Soccer is not a white suburban sport. Maybe the women can get always with it because female soccer is not has no depth and more about funding, but men's soccer stand no chance unless it becomes more inclusive.

Delboy0 Its my understanding that most players come out of college. The best ones are recruited and given the opportunity to get into the game.

Charles Rueda Someone explained America relies on a pay to play system for kids. The teams with the best coaches that lead to the national team selections have high annual fees, so this excludes minorities and low income families. In the rest of the world these are actually free so excludes no one and more meritocratic. The US system is more about whose parents can pay the high fees for their kids to be trained by the best coaches and that is why the USA team is so white. The USA female team are lucky that female soccer is less competitive and only 2 or 4 countries have a well funded programme and the USA has the biggest funded programme.

Delboy0 so much concentration on class and race is foolish. Everybody can play and they pick the best players. Black inner city poor people tend to play basketball. In the Hispanic American community women don't play soccer as much generally just the men play. Aa far as the men's team there are starting to be lots of Hispanics around the team. Orozco omar Gonzales Alvarado the list goes on. Where did you get upper middle class. Clint Dempseys family was broke ass poor

***** Just because they are white doesnt mean they are only upper middle class. Also It is hard for kids i poor families to play period in any nation even if it is free, They need to work or dont have transportation thats life/ The American soccer system does not exclude poor people or minorities by the way it not right to say minorities are the same as poor. Lots of hispanic americans beaking on to the scene and lack of hispanic women because there are a lack of hispanic women who play soccer in the States!

Since Lauren was unavailable Ellis decided to play A-Rod, so that she couldn't utilize that league-winning close working relationship at FCKC. A-Rod responded by blowing huge chunks (figuratively) from the opening whistle. This was the game to play Alex and Press up top, so Jill, when her hand was forced by KO getting her head smashed open, put Press at outside mid. I would have replaced Lauren with a player who had three WCs and three OGs of experience and had been voted seventh and third for FIFA World Player of the Year, but Jill decided that a WC quarter-final was the best place to have someone who hadn't completed one season of professional soccer play her first complete WC game. As it turned out, our back line spent much of the game deep in China's half, so it wasn't an issue. The U.S. controlled the game and played well enough to make a decent Chinese team that had tied us in December look like 14-year-old girls. Okay, maybe they always look that way (except for the ones that look like 14-year-old boys--I'm serious), but they were clearly the weakest team we played in this tournament. This dominance resulted in only a single goal however... (Just to clear up any confusion: China started two players named WANG and then added a third at the 35th minute, along with PANG and TANG later, taking out TAN and HAN, respectively. LOU also came out but LIU stayed in. Fortunately both ZHANGs were kept on the bench, along with LEI and two of the LIs. The third LI played a complete game. I shit you not: the coach's name was HAO.)
