Bullied outcasts hit the textbooks alongside teen mums bouncing babies, while in the next classroom, youths facing 'juvie' learn about sex in prison. Is this Australia's most unique school?
Macleay Vocational College in Kempsey on New South Wales’ mid-north coast caters for students aged 14 upwards.
The school provides education to students previously labelled as being on their “last chance”, to give them a place to belong and make something of themselves.
Behind it all is principal Mark Morrison, who has been called “inspirational” for the way he has meshed himself in the low socio-economic community and made real change to the area and its young people.

I can't believe it took me a year and a half to finally watch this, i was a student of MVC and i graduated dux from the class of 2019. (i was the dumbass with the violet hair on the far right of the graduation photo. Watching back on this makes me truly miss the family i was a part of and the home that Mark gave me. Mark is my greatest father figure and a man i am proud to say if i turn out the quarter of the man he is, then i can hang my head high and be proud of who i am. Dion was one of my best friends, i sort of mentored him through most of year 12, i tried my best to help him succeed in school. In return he taught me that every day is a good day as long as you remember to smile. He is the greatest inspiration i will ever find in life and i will always be mourning for the happiest person i've ever met.

Good for you. Keep on the straight path and life will be yours. I've been around a lot of bad things and bad people growing up and the ones that couldn't change or went back to their old ways ended up with nothing, in jail or dead. I've buried too many close friends over poor choices. I literally just seen one of my best friends from about 10 years ago drunk and begging on the side of the road yesterday. That hit me pretty hard. I picked him up, fed him, gave him 50 bucks and a hug and said goodbye. I would've brought him home but I can't have that around my wife and 3 children. Good luck too you.

My High School Janitor saved my life. I was 17 and suicidal. He overheard me confiding in a friend, that i wished my own demise. He reported to School authorities but nothing was done. So he stepped into my life and became the light I needed to fight off the darkest hours. I'm now 43 years old and he and his wife are God parents to my children. I am eternally grateful.

Schools like this wouldn't be necessary if ordinary State schools were better funded - smaller class sizes, broader curriculum, more outdoor activity, more time for each individual student. These kids are the lucky ones, its the ones stuck in under funded state schools that we should be concerned about - all kids deserve to be heard, not just the ones who kick and scream loud enough to get noticed.

State departments have too many admin people consuming tax payers' money while doing very little. Admin consume more, the frontline got less. This is a problem in America too. My daughter was bullied in her high school after we moved and she changed schools. She dealt with that a year and a half. They didn't/couldn't/wouldn't address it. I talked to the school, told them I was pulling her out. This is her junior year. They wanted to send her to a behavioral school (Alternative school) I was FURIOUS!!! Told them they could go to hell, they have endangered her life enough. I withdrew her from school. She was 16 and a junior. I decided she should go for her GED, she went to classes 8 months, and walked the stage earlier then her class!!!! Screw them dropping the ball

@@meera2531 there is one more problem with Indian schools other than the teachers not being very "devoted". The parents themselves are not serious about their children's studies many times. My mum is a middle school teacher in a very rural village in Jharkhand. She struggled to give something back to them and was so proud when 10 of her students could read and understand English sentences. And the villagers respect her the most of all the teachers. But then that was the limit. They moved classes, their parents would take them to fields for agriculture and businesses and all the training was lost. You have to go home and study what was taught at school, that is never the case in that village. Govt pays for books, food, gives stipends for attending school! And it is very strictly audited (at least in Jharkhand) but if students themselves are not interested, nothing will change.

I always did well with my studies and got good grades but the bullying was so bad I dropped out 3 times before I finally left for good in year 11 and then found out I was pregnant. Now I'm trying to reverse the struggles we now face because I didn't finish school and never got the qualifications I needed to give my children a better life. I'm always hammering into my kids how important an education is. It's funny that the most important time in your life is when you're so young and prone to making the wrong decisions. Sometimes you can't turn that around. I'm working towards it now but at 25 and with the potential I had as young person I could have had a much better life by now and provided a better life for my kids if I had known just how important that education is. I cried watching this. Mark is a wonderful man and already we are seeing cycles broken because of it. Kids graduating school for the first time in generations in their families is a real triumph and I hope Mark one day gets the full recognition he deserves for his dedication to helping these kids.

I think the key part most people miss is that there isn't just one option for getting an education. Not everyone fits into the same puzzle. Some kids do better finishing grade 10 then getting their grade 12 equivelancy at tafe and moving onto a trade or uni because the style of education is so different to the schooling system.

I offer my sincere condolences to all who love Deon, including his Macleay VC family. Regardless of where you travel on this road called life, your brother Deon remains with you,. In times where you need to dig deep and can’t do it for yourself, do it for Deon. If you can’t yet find enough love for yourself, find your love for Deon- and remember his love for you.
