I'm sorry what Conan said about you guys being a little old for Tots. If you lose a hero like Larry as a mere Toddler, no wonder you all aged like five to ten years in five minutes! No one should have gone through what you did. And one more thing, the tootin was beautiful and exactly what America needed in that dark time.

11:28 Andy so eloquently summarizes what has made Conan’s show so great and unique from the very beginning. “It’s us calling out to those other weirdos, who know that they’re different.” You really do feel that connection with the show and it’s people. You relate to that humor because it speaks to you personally, in the same way your favorite band or musician does. There’s a thunderous moment where you come to the realization that there are actually other people out there who think and feel the same way you do. There are actually other people who share your absurd, surreal sense of humor, your way of coping with the realities of existence. There are other people out there who are just as crazy as you are. And suddenly, you feel less alone. You feel less insane. You feel a genuine connection to these complete strangers, because they are creating art that almost feels like it was made just for you. Conan’s show was so much more than just a late-night talk show. It truly transcended that to become something else entirely. Conan O’Brien and his companions have changed the lives and lifted the spirits of millions of people all over the world. I suffer from pretty intense depression, and have unfortunately experienced the more severe complications that arise from having this illness. Watching Conan’s show has truly helped to carry me through some of the darkest moments of my life. I will be forever grateful to this man and his associates for bringing such light and joy to my life.

This comment reminded me of another comment comparing Conan and Fallon and it actually pairs with this very well. "Fallon is the nerd trying to make the jocks laugh, while Conan is a nerd that's making the other nerds laugh" Essentially, instead of switching your humour entirely to appeal to a target audience, just make do with your existing humour and eventually, the "nerds" will come to you. It's honestly brilliant.

Andy really put the appeal of Conan's humor very eloquently. Because for those of us who were young when we started Conan back when he was in New York, there was an almost feeling of "community." Conan and his team really made it feel OK to be a weirdo and have a weird sense of humor. And, like Dan said, which I thought was really sweet, that's what made some of us want to get into entertainment or writing, is that feeling that there's a place for us weirdos to be weird.

I love this. I've never seen this "Behind the Nonsense" series before, but as a Conan fan and a fan of comedy generally, I really enjoy hearing the story behind the sketch. And this is what makes Conan and Andy (and everyone they work with) special, their appreciation for the "rules" of comedy. Conan's right, him playing the straight man (à la Bud Abbott of Abbott & Costello) created so much space for great, great comedy. It's not that Conan and the gang were ever bound by the rules of comedy, it's that they understood when either breaking them or following them would make for good comedy. A lot of other hosts today seem to not have any interest in this sort of thing and, as a result, their shows just aren't as funny. That's not to say that they're never funny, but their stuff just isn't on the same level as Team Coco. This is why a guy like Mel Brooks is a fan of Conan and the gang. That man knows funny. And by the way, I'd never seen this mug gluing sketch before... holy moly, hilarious.
