Keenan Taylor's Tales of Kaimere

Күн бұрын

In December of 2023 I published Ballad of Ka'Hai, a documentary-style episode of Tales of Kaimere which followed an uktan from the day he hatched to the hatching of his own first offspring. This episode offers a brief insight behind the scenes into the process of telling Ka'Hai's story.
Songs of the Inland Sea is the sequel to Tales of Kaimere! It is a nautical anthology, with all six short stories and novellas taking place in aquatic settings. There are heists on a ship, a desperate chase through a marsh, and a survival story from the perspective of a killer whale!

I think a series with this sort of format would slap. Honestly I’d say you’re my new favorite youtuber, even surpassing my childhood favorites. Also if you do continue the ballads as a series feel free to take as much time as you need, I’m happy to wait years if it means a better product.

I have to say watching the Ballad of Ka'Hai was such an experience. I also watched dino docs when I was a kid and this was so reminiscent of those that it became my favorite video. Then I began to watch other videos from you and it truly inspired me with my fantasy world (so much so that i went into this rabbit hole of breaking down one of my species in a similar fashion) to makes these interesting creatures that kind of resemble our own but evolved in different ways. I have to say that now you kinda are a bit inspiration to me to create fantasy creatures when I was struggling before. So thank you and I hope you well so you can keep creating things and inspiring so many others like me!

The Ballad of Ka hai was great. A very special video. I look forwards to any tale following the life of a Kaimerean creature. Or perhaps you could focus on part of an ecosystem? I'd imagine it set out in format like episode of Walking with Dinosaurs? Say, follow the creatures of a region through the rhythms and trials of a year, or perhaps follow one on it's voyage across continents. Perhaps follow a monarch to it's final resting place... RIP random Ornithicherus who was the king of the skies. May you ride upon the winds of heaven forever.

Ballad of Ka'Hai has become easily my favourite episode. I've watched it so many times I actually downloaded it and keep it on my phone, so that I can listen to it at work. Also after building my version of the Uktan for a dnd game, this series has actually inspired my own world building project, in which a prehistoric world is populated with various creatures and magical corruption is slowly turning some of them into more familiar dnd monsters (with plans being to feature the Owlbear as my first proper mutated monster, being a corrupted polar tyrannosaur with wings). I'm rambling... Thanks for being awesome Keenan! Keep up the amzing work

It's really inspiring to see your progression as an artist. Seeing your grasp on naturalistic colors, proportions, scale and texture are so neat. Comparing your comparatively smoother and less defined old art goes to show how an artist can improve. I can even see a difference in execution compared to when I first subbed to the channel (though that's probably easier to see with the literal redesigns of older animals). The fact you're able to realistically draw such a breadth of animals (and even some plants) is just so impressive to me.

I consider Ballad of Ka'Hai among my new favorite dinosaur docs, and like many of the greats, even the behind the scenes are informative and mind blowing! I can't believe the Uktan is just as old as Kaimere itself! And to think it started out as an allosauroid, with it now being a megaraptoran, a group which itself, was once considered a part of the allosauroid clade! Druk's ending was heartbreaking for me and my girlfriend watching together, but dang if Ka'hai, Oneeya, and Kian's success wasn't a perfect conclusion! Happy Year of the Dragon to you Keenan! May the great Drakes of prairie and forest bless you and Kaimere with luck.

I really enjoyed listening to the ballad as I cleaned today and would love to see more videos with a similar concept for other species in Kaimere. Not only would it be interesting to see the other megaraptorans portrayed, but I would love to see a motomazor or hukolgur episode as well, going through the life cycle of each and exploring it. I did have one question after listening to it though. Throughout the story we see a variety of uktan and many of them have mutations or color variations that differentiate them aesthetically. Is this something that is acurrate to how uktan appear with significant variation in coloration showing up throughout their range, or was this a decision made for narrative reasons to help give each individual a easily seen visual identity? Either way, enjoyed it as always and can't wait for more videos in the future. Keep up the good work!

I have voiced my thoughts on it already, however I am quite excited for the video on what looks to be the Arctic Ocean of Kaimere! I’ve thought about writing some form of either xenofiction, or something like ballad of Ka’hai for quite a while. First I was interested in red wolf xenofiction (because they are on the brink of extinction). Now I am considering doing something similar to ballad of Ka’hai for some form of Permian synapsid. Especially since they probably had unique behaviors and metabolism in comparison to modern mammals (something like Anteosaurus, Larger therocephalians, Gorgonopsians, etc). I’ve even thought about doing Kaimeran fan fiction for a thescolasaur (the Kodrankoku) in the ballad of Ka’Hai format. I will probably not go with that given I don’t want to unintentionally steal in some way or form and I don’t know your stance on that kind of thing.

Conner is a genuinely amazing guy for sponsoring a topic of this scale. it's one thing to sponsor the coverage of a whole group it's another to go into detail on a scale of a single animal at such detail. If you ever do such a video again I hope it may be on one of the endemic clades there seems like you could do alot with one of those, especially since they are arguably the most "kaimeran" group of them all long predating mammals and even dinosaurs

Well for one, I had several sequences with the sailback and other runnendrake that I cut because I didn't have time to design more than the dro'khel. Now I have the sailback but that was drawn in January. I had a failed hunt scene with the avudi, showcasing that specializing in the glyptodonts doesn't mean they have specialization in all hard game, and that this was a resource other uktan were capable of reliably hunting.

Good to hear. Meanwhile, while watching this, an idea came up in my mind: a ballad following the life of a tyrannosaur-like allosaur family, first the parents then their children. And are you excited about Dinosaur Empire? It’s a pretty cool project following three Ceratosaurus brothers as they face predation, weather, disease, and more. And one question: are you impressed by F-N-2187’s project?

1) To be fair, the Quadrupedal Uktan and the Indominus rex aren't really similar between each others. The Quadrupedal Uktan is... well quadrupedal and have lot of brown/dark fuzz on all its body. And is an natural animal who kill only when it have the need to. While the Indominus rex is entirely bipedal (ok, we see him using his arms/hand on the ground 1-2 times and to catch and manipulate things; but that it. Not in a regular manner), is white and naked, recovered by scaly osteoderms. And he is a straight up artifical monster made for killing efficiently (as in the 2015 movie we learn before the final battle that he was a proto-type for biological weapon for war uses) and kill on purpose because he think to be superior to any others creatures because he is intelligent and the tallest. Differences are here and are actually rather important. I don't think and see where you could even being sued for "copying" the Indo. Especially if you still have most of the draws showing the Quadrupedal version made before 2015 (like this one 3:37, this one 3:40, this one 3:49 and this one 3:53). However ! You would have definitely had problems in 2018 with Fallen Kingdom and the Indoraptor. The Indoraptor been actually way more closer to the Quadrupedal Uktan as it's is a mainly quadrupedal theropod. Sure, there still here too notable differences, but the main aspect of both creature are identical. And given the first anthology came in 2020, 2 year after 2018 and the movie release, yes, here things would have been problematics. Personnaly, I don't mind the Uktan appearance, but I prefer by far a regular bipedal theropod than a quadrupedal one, as otherwise it would feel more a giant typical lizard than a true dinosaur. Which, ironically, is what have occured for the movie "65" of 2023 with Adam Driver, and its gigantic oversized quadrupedal dinosaur which appear as the final boss near the end. And given the critics and reviews, this approach of a theropod didn't really work. So, long life for bipedalism ! 2) I am interested by the story about a young orphan T-rex raised by a Quetz and getting revenge on the evil Trike. Honestly, it could work as a small and children book. And it would be welcomed to see a carnivore being the victim and the hero and a herbivore being the great ashole of the story and deserving to have its butt kicked off at the end. Would be really novel and not a huge and tiring work to put in place. Maybe you could reused this general idea for a Non-Kaimere production if one day you want to do something out of Kaimere for once. 3) The Leptictida, order from which the Leptictidium belong, actually lived from the Late Cretaceous to the Oligocene (between 70 to 33 mya). Not only this mean these creatures are badass because they survived the K-T Extinction, but that mean they came on Kaimere by the Oligocene Harvest. I was afraid that you decide to edit the lore to include a Eocene Harvest or whatsoever, but happy that you stick to your own rules ! :) Anyway, I'm excited to se what evolutionnary path this group have undergone on Kaimere X)
