2:31 I honestly think this point here about public speaking is THE most important. I’m pretty ok at giving talks or presenting things (mostly to other engineers), and the #1 thing that kills a talk for me is when the speaker does not care about what they’re talking about. It’s so important that you’re interested in what you’re speaking about, it makes it way more engaging to people and is just an all around better presentation.

As a mediocre musician recording my own stuff, I know the pain of messing up takes repeatedly too well. Keep it up, Brian, your tutorial and tournament videos are really good.

Brian, is there a reason why you and others use a separate clips channel for short-form content instead of posting more shorts on the main channel? And since you do post shorts to the main channel, doe that mean there is a reason to make an exception? Everywhere I look, I see peeps recommending using shorts to grow their channel, but I've noticed some folks, especially in the FGC, forgo them for separate channels, so I'm just a little confused.

Well, full length videos aren't "shorts". Shorts are a specific video format, with a vertical aspect ratio that goes to a completely separate feed. I do shorts on the main channel (when I do them). Shorter videos that aren't vertical aspect ratio are just "regular" videos in the eyes of youtube. In general the philosophy is, the main channel is reserved for higher quality or more breaking news/higher importance content. Stuff that is decent but no pertinent goes to clips/secondary channel. You can spam the second channel and not care about the quality as much.

@@BrianFClips So in your Professional Super-Experienced Certified KZfaqr Guy (trademark pending) opinion, which format is better for getting your channel in front of eyeballs? Does it really matter? I just started a twitch channel and a YT channel (not this one, but don't look), and I haven't made any shorts yet, but I have been posting clips from the stream. I'm just wondering if putting together shorts would be a better use of my time.

@@Giraffinator Not Brian but if your clips are good you can definitely build a channel on them and transition to longer-form videos once you've built up a bit of an audience - look at Broski's channel as an example. Anecdotally, the Shorts that do super well on Brian_F are scripted, focused shorts designed for the format, and get FAR more views than a typical video does. But shorts that are just clips from the stream reformatted to the vertical shorts resolution don't pull any particular special numbers. So my instinct is that it's not particularly worth editing a stream clip into a short, but it IS worth the time to script and film a short. Fighting games specifically do NOT lend themselves well to vertical video, so if that's what the channel is about, it will be an uphill battle to make good shorts! Like Brian mentioned, you can find his Shorts on the main Brian_F channel by going to "videos" and clicking the "shorts" tab - I'd recommend looking at these and seeing the difference between the ones that did well and the ones that didn't - you'll see what I am talking about.

It's interesting that fighting games might perform differently in this scenario, but now that I think of it, lots of fgc shorts are informative, scripted-ish type of content.

PS: If you use OBS to record, get Advanced Scene Switcher plugin, set up macros to start replay buffer, one to save and disable the buffer, and one to only disable the buffer. Put from 180 to 300 seconds as the max limit, and voilá. No manual editing required and you can keep only the best takes. It _is_ annoying to keep using keyboard shortcuts though.
