The complexity of all those tiny parts, not to mention the minute fixings, leaves me trembling with nerves, AND I'M NOT EVEN DOING THE WORK... Clearly, a service of one of these high end timepieces, is more than just removing the back plate and giving the insides a mighty sharp blow from the pursed lips of the worker, but this is on another level of skill mastering.

That was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. All of that to take the watch apart, clean the parts, lubricate the parts and reassemble them. I'm guessing that service cost more than most watches cost. The skill of the watchmaker is incredible, like a neurosurgeon for watches.

Serious question. Why do watch makers wear finger gloves and not whole hand gloves?
@NitroModelsAndComics15 күн бұрын
Because an entire glove would make their hands sweat. And that would be very bad. The finger cuffs cover enough to get it done without causing his hands to sweat and possibly ruin done work which would have to be redone.

I was wondering how do not get any debris in the watch? New watches like my Planet Ocean never have it, but I had a cheap Raymond Weil serviced and it had a lot of dust under the crystal when I got it back. What does the original workshop do differently than these cheap repair centers? BTW if you have an Omega or swatch group watch, send it to Switzerland for service. There's a reason watches are made in Switzerland and not New Jersey ;)

A Wal-Mart Casio F-91 that cost $9.00 USD will only lose 10-15 seconds per day. This $400,000 Patek losses 45-60 seconds per day, yes mechanical but $400,000 USD. A person would have to be insane, not caring even if your Musk!
@ianwoollard20635 күн бұрын
The accuracy of this kind of watch is actually more like -1 to +2 seconds per day.
@FlightEagle4 күн бұрын
A Casio F-91 shouldn't lose or gain more than 10-15 seconds per *month*. This Patek is unlikely to lose or gain more than 1 or 2 seconds per day. You don't buy a Patek for accuracy - that is known. You buy a Patek for the craftmanship and quality of the watch. The ritual of setting the time is part of the experience of owning a mechanical watch. If you are wanting a very accurate wristwatch, you buy a temperature corrected high frequency quartz mechanism that auto-calibrates to public time radio signals or GPS (where available).
