Makes me cry out for childhood days! So many things made this show a hit. The music score set the mood, the sound special effects such as the warning alarms in the ship's console, the robot, Dr. Smith, and also give credit to the rest of the crew!! Lost in Space will forever be one my favorites!

Hey Charles, I am right where you are right now. I often find myself wishing I could have my childhood to re-live again. It was a wonderful time with my whole family. Let me tell you, the actors on Lost in Space were great, but you point out the music, theme and other musical interludes composed by the great John Williams (then known as Johnny Williams), that were brilliant compositions. They don't invest that kind of effort on shows today. That was a full scale orchestra on the theme. Incredible!!! Yeap, I miss the times our family would sit around a black and white set to watch this show on Wednesdays.

We would play Lost In Space, Rat Patrol and Wild Wild West. What a fun time, when your mom actually wanted you, to play outside and leave her alone (~~puff puff~~).

The remake series is an insult. Dr. Smith is a woman; Will is a wimp; The robot is alien tech; John is a cuckold; Judy is a bi-racial genius; Maureen is a harpy. Just horrible. It is written just to disrespect the original.

I lived for LIS when I was a kid in the 60's. I met Jonathan Harris in the 90's while working at Swissotel Boston. He corrected me when I said it was on at 8:00 every Wednesday. "Seven-thirty", he shot right back. He decried New England weather but said the downside to LA was earthquakes.

They probably had fun turning lost in space into a kiddie show but i wish they wouldve kept the goofiness to a minimum and made it as serious as it started.
@lindvi18943 жыл бұрын
Personally I think keeping it as serious, or at least having Dr. Smith remain evil, would make the audience loose interest after a while. Jonathan Harris thought this and therefor created Dr. Smiths character development.

I was visiting AtlantaGA in the 1980's. The subway system there, is called MARTA. After a train had pulled in, and people were boarding, I asked a stranger why it was called MARTA. He said, "the hot chick on Lost In Space" and he boarded, the train made an electronic warning ping, and the doors shut behind him. (found out later it's an acronym for rapid transit).

The character of Jonathan Harris playing Dr.Smith killed this show. It started out great with what it promised, a Swiss family Robinson adventure in space and by the second half of the first season it became the Dr.Smith show and became silly.

Pretty much the same for VTTBOTS. From espionage to lobster men and Admiral Nelson changing into a werewolf....as Nelson might've asked of Irwin Allen "Where do you get these ideas, chief?" We might not have agreed with the major change of direction for both LIS & VTTBOTS, but Allen would've pointed to the popularity of the shows in syndication and their continual popularity with people who were kids in the 60s & 70s. I regularly watched the re-runs of both shows well into adulthood and they'd regularly pop up as subjects of discussion between myself and my late sister, both of us revelling in just how naff the shows were, but how we loved them just the same.
