Thanks for being here. I know your time is valuable, so I'll keep it short. I own a company called 4LC Studios. I do video production (weddings, commercial, and anything else that grabs our attention). This youtube channel and everything I post is about the journey. I love sharing what I'm learning, how I'm growing, and how I'm failing. I hope you'll follow my journey and be a part of the conversation.

I'm blown away (in a very good way) to learn you are Christians. I can see myself as your Jason, I have a passion for the church and am also a worship leader. Church tech is a huge part of the vision of Crazy Amazing Designs. I want to give others tools they need to serve the church wherever they may be.

One day our church will have all that tech. We have a couple of special programs for our Easter services, one of which is a "Easter Story as Told by Kids" video I produced. Love the stage setup for your service. When curtain dropped, I audibly said "awesome!" Coworkers then looked over to see what I was watching.

Good stuff Scott! I love the curtain idea. This will be a busy weekend for us musicians. Playing a good friday service tonight and three on Sunday with a downbeat at 5:30 Sunday morning for our 6:30 sunrise service. I'm loving the GH5 by the way. I'm off to get some B-roll timelapse of the church building. Sunrise is at 6:19am this morning.

The "drop cloth" is called a Kabuki drop. Ive set up thousands for concerts. You guys did an amazing diy version hahaha. Pros use the kabuki drop to hide set change in the middle of the show. you just use two rows of solenoid and a pocket/basket on the back drop. then you can fire the first row and it drops the basket and thus the backdrop drops, everyone does there work then you fire the second row and drop the curtain collect and you're ready to proceed.
@StringerNews1
@StringerNews1 6 жыл бұрын
Actually the cloth itself is called "scrim" in theatrical parlance. The effect of dropping it and the associated hardware is the kabuki drop. Scrim effects are all the rage in megachurches this year. Those with the budget for it use theatrical sharkstooth scrim, which is the most common type. I vaguely remember lighting the stuff for a high school play once. It produces a novel effect if not over-used. Light it from the front and it's a virtually opaque curtain. Kill the front lights and light behind it, and it almost disappears.

Loved the video, yep the whole video! I've got a question, that you've probably heard before: "When the worship and all the production is so nailed down to when what happens and decided beforehand to the point where it's decided beforehand when the curtain drops, how do you leave room for the Holy Spirit to move in the worship? How do you keep the worship flowing in the spirit? Love to know what you think.
@scottmckenna

Thanks for watching. That question isn’t great for KZfaq comments. It’s something everyone wants to ask and all it did is cause arguing. We plan and pray for the sets before we script them out and then we stick to the plan. We have thousands of people coming and going between each service that our timing needs to be accurate and on time or it gets very tricky.

I was born Allentown PA so it cool to see what you guys are doing!!! I’m FOH / TECH for Elevation Melbourne Chruch I’m trying to get them to understand how great Dante is so I’m so goes to see you killing it with FOH to IEM to Broadcast and I can push it more I use it for my Daily Job and I feel like I’m push something like a salesman but I love the Allen & Heath FOH just one question you said you were running the ME from A&L and the Behringer X Producer how does that sign-flow work? And y do you do that ? I remember you said EQ & Compression is the Behringer after the ME mix just for EQ & Compression ?
@scottmckenna
@scottmckenna 5 жыл бұрын
We use the Behringer for Dante signal into it. Then we process all the channels in the Behringer. All EQ, compression, reverbs and things that are designed specifically for our in ear monitors are done through the behringer. The only thing that the ME system is using is levels.

Hey Scott, I see a lot of screens or projections in the back near the tech booth. So I guess these are for the worship leader (text to sing?) or every person on stage? My main question is: What do you display on these screens or projections in the beginning or after the service? And how do you explain it to people why the projection is in the "wrong side of the room"?
@scottmckenna
@scottmckenna 6 жыл бұрын
It’s for the team on stage to be able to see lyrics of songs, as well as people on stage to see any notes, etc. no need to explain to anyone, everyone understands what it’s for. None of use music stands so it helps us stay connected and looking forward rather than at stands.

To me, this seems to make the tech guys determining what the musicians can, and cannot do; as a guitar player, not fond of the idea that I would not be able to reach my amp if I was not happy with the sound I was getting. The band would need to have tremendous faith in the sound team, and the sound team would have to be very responsive to the musicians.
@scottmckenna
@scottmckenna 6 жыл бұрын
We have an outstanding tech team that know what they are doing so our guitar players love it. It’s not for everyone, but our players love the setup.
@JonathanGrahamVideo
@JonathanGrahamVideo 6 жыл бұрын
I think for a church setting it's better for the tech team to have more control than the musicians. In my experience serving on a tech team at my church, in the past we've seen musicians kind of out of touch with what sounds good for the audience. What sounds good to them on stage does not necessarily sound good in the house.
@toddniemann1921
@toddniemann1921 4 жыл бұрын
I tend to agree. I would think some kind of compromise could have been reached without going to the expense of buying custom built amps and then telling the guitar players that was their amp, period. Kind of creates a layer of detachment between what the guitar player dials in practicing at home then having to make it work with provided amp when it comes to rehearsal and the services. I think I would be having a hard conversation if someone was not fitting into the program rather than spending a ton of money and forcing everyone playing to use the church mandated amp. The other thing I noticed was that despite spending a lot of money on amps, it did not appear they were using an effects loop that would make all the time based effects really clean and pristine. Kind of a shame to spend all that money but not get an effects loop built in, or not use it if it was in fact available. To each their own.

To each it's own. It's not about putting on a show. It's about doing things as smoothly as possible. Wanting to do things well is not a bad thing. Distractions take people away from what we're actually trying to point them too.
