I truly hope he's found a measure of peace. Kevin deserves that. Definitely a better person than I would be when McMahon came to see him. Selling WCCW's media archives might have set Kevin free. But in his shoes, I'd have told Vince to piss off when it came to the Hall of Fame. Not much good came from the Von Erich "legacy" & pretty much destroyed his parents & family. But he was a bigger man I'd ever would be.

The Von Erich curse was caused by Fritz pretty much trying to become The Jackson 5 of wrestling, pushing each son to the absolute limit and demanding ONLY Perfection from each of them while ignoring the obvious stress it put on each son, which caused them to develop dangerous habits that would lead to their deaths/suicides

Agreed definitely not a curse, just a combination of bad/selfish parenting, fame and living a stressful life. Wrestling in those days took alot out of you. That alone would put you on drugs. Combine that with the father wanting perfection and the brothers trying to top each other, not going to play out well.

On a happier note, I can remember when Kerry and his family would have groups of special needs kids out to his Ranch for the day because my cousin was one of those kids. They all had so much fun. It's something they'll remember always. His support and involvement with the special Olympics was awesome for the athletes, because he made them all feel so proud. Can anyone remember any of that good, or just something else happy? They may have been cursed, but they were a blessing while we had them down here.

There was more than one factor. So I feel like blaming Fritz for everything is unfair. But he did make mistakes which led to a snowball effect of problems. I'm sure it wasn't his intention to drive his kids that far. He just wanted success for them like any parent would. This is just a really sad story. I often wonder what would have happened had David lived.

I feel like they were just selfish prima donnas who couldn't handle life's hard times. Why after seeing a brother or two take their own life and seeing the affect it had on loved ones including yourself, would you put them through more pain and anguish by dying the same way? It's just cowardly in my opinion. Fritz just wanted his sons to achieve in life and when they felt they disappointed pops, instead of saying "Maybe this isn't the life for me dad" took the easy way out and destroyed the whole legacy of WCCW and their family.

I think that if Kerry had retired from wrestling, he would have kept his foot and none of this would have happened. But he probably never got the chance. I think that Mike and Chris should have never been in the ring in the first place. They should have been allowed to develop their own interests. From what I understand, Mike was a decent rock-n-roll guitarist. He could have developed that into a well-paying gig.

If Kerry Von Erich Had Gotten Hulk Hogan's Spot? officialfan.proboards.com/thread/508304/kerry-erich-gotten-hulk-hogans?page=3 Post by Madison Carter on Sep 17, 2014 at 5:27pm Even without the cocaine/drugs, Kerry wasn't the brightest bulb in the box. He also didn't politic a lot; that's what his dad was for, and without Fritz there, he'd be lost. He was unreliable, didn't show up all the time and would have likely become homesick very quickly.

Exploitation of dead wrestlers in WCCW officialfan.proboards.com/thread/504111/exploitation-dead-wrestlers-wccw Post by tafkaga on Jul 20, 2014 at 11:23am Mike Von Erich's brain was semi-fried by a fever that almost killed him, but Fritz let him get back in the ring anyway and turned his near-death into a "most inspirational wrestler of the year" type thing. I'm sure Fritz didn't look at it as exploiting, but in hindsight it could be seen that way. You could say the same thing about the David Von Erich Memorial Parade of Champions, which held the record of the largest attendance for any wrestling event until that record was broken by WrestleMania III. The WCCW tragedies took a heavy toll on the promotion, but Fritz's "the show must go on" mentality certainly didn't help matters. I'm not one who subscribes to the myth that Fritz lorded over his sons and made them become wrestlers, but I think that the boys ended up becoming wrestlers largely because that was Fritz's singular focus and the most powerful thing he instilled in them. I hope that his boys, especially Mike and Chris, knew that they didn't have to succeed in wrestling for their father to be proud of them, but I'm not sure that they did. Post by cabbageboy on Jul 20, 2014 at 8:43pm The more you read about Fritz the more of a monster the man sounds like. In fact early today I thought about the whole David Memorial show and how creepy it was that this company drew its biggest gate because one of its top stars died and his own father exploited it. I even recall a WWF show on 24/7 from 1984 where they took time out to do a 10 bell salute for David, and that was shocking for WWF of that era to acknowledge another promotion's wrestler. In a way I would have hated to have been a WCCW fan in the 80s and watch as a promotion that had such massive potential just became a shell of itself since its wrestlers all died and the promoter took zero steps to reign any of them in (or get them help) before it was too late.

I know that most people think that David Von Erich was the best out of all the brothers but my vote still goes to Kerry. That dude was a better worker with one foot than most people could even hope to be. Seriously check out his matches against Mr.Perfect or his appearance at Survivor Series as part of The Ultimate Warrior's Team against Mr.Perfect and Demolition. One of the most underrated Survivor Series matches of all time no do in small part by Kerry and Hennig's stellar ring chemistry. It's a damn shame that they had to be plagued by nonstop set backs, drug addiction, and an overbearing patriarch. I don't fully blame Fritz for all of this but I do blame him for Chris' death. Afterall, the immense pressure he put on his sons to be top performers had to weigh hard on the smallest brother of the bunch. There was no way his small frame and asthma was going to make him a future NWA champ. One could make the case that Chris' suicide caused a chain reaction, though.

The curse was not real on the Von Erich family; the whole tragedy was all because of Fritz Von Erich. You know the moral of the story: learn to love yourself first before sincerely loving anyone else. The Von Erich father did not love himself like he did not love his kids, resulting in family drama.

Fritz seems like the type of guy to sell his soul for his families success, maybe the devil was just collecting his due, in a manner of speaking.

The Mike Von Erich tragedy is the reason I stopped watching World Class with my dad. I remember it all to well how they played it off as an angle, but in reality they already knew he was dead. Well it didn't take long for word to get out that Mike had committed suicide, and that was it for my dad. My dad said the Von Erich's were trash and we never watched them in the house or talked about them again. I still followed World Class from time to time when I could at my friends, or read about them in the sheets, but that was pretty much the end for all intensive purposes because we only had one TV and he wouldn't allow it to be on.

I was a huge fan of WCCW and the Von Erichs as a kid. So sad that behind the scenes there was so much pain and death surrounding that family

Great content and very well organized. I'm late to the game but I just discovered the the Von Erichs with the new movie coming out this Dec. I spent the last 48 hours reading about this family tragedy. As individuals, we have family, friends, work and hobbies, when things go wrong in one area you can vent or relieve stress in another area to think things through or get fresh perspectives but it was obvious with these boys/young men there was no outlet, no room for other conversations at the dinner table except wrestling. And yes when a parent pushes their children to pursue their own interests not allowing them to find their way, it mostly ends badly. To me there was no curse, but instead a patriarch who didn't allow his children to be children and individuals but rather exploited personal problems for attention of strangers.

Fritz Von Erich... Smh! So obsessed over his image and his wrestling business that he forgot about his family which is the reason his sons are dead.. Don't get me wrong killing your own self is your own fault but FRITZ pushed them too hard! Sometimes as a parent you must step back especially if they are Adults..

I always felt bad for Chris Von Erich. I can't imagine what it must be like going through life and seeing your older brothers as big muscular champions and then when you look in the mirror having to accept the fact that you will never be like them. That's a lot to put on somebody.

I haven't seen the Iron Claw movie, but Chris apparently, isn't even mentioned let alone featured. I don't know if it's because there's only so much o the Von Erich family story that you could tell within a two hour window, or having to discuss his own death would've brought down an admittedly, already heavy story for causal viewers.
