About Matt Williams
I have spent most of my life telling stories because I believe they can transform our lives and heal the planet. And while you may know me as the creator of Roseanne, Home Improvement, and other milestones from my career, I hung up my hat in Hollywood and started writing stories that encourage kindness, inspire hope, and celebrate goodness I believe stories connect us.
Instead of drowning in an ocean of despair, I want to offer tiny islands of hope where readers can stop for a few minutes and think about the goodness that still exists in the world.
This pursuit has led to me towards a passionate project and book called Glimpses - a collection of personal essays and spiritual musings that I hope will open hearts, stir thoughts, and trigger conversations about life, love, and all that spiritual stuff.
The best part? All of the proceeds from my books, lectures, and seminars will be donated to children’s charities.

I don't know why, other than the pain I have in my entire spine, but this make me tear up. I guess maybe better memories of better times without pain. I have never heard these stories or the history of the show, but miss a lot about. I have tools for fixing vehicles and a project for me was high on my list moving closer. Now, I am ready to give up. Grateful the was made as it brings back memories. What luck...I got the nickel tour of life. Now I have pennies.

Richard Karns was immediately likeable and there were times I forgot I was watching actors and thought I was watching This Old House.

This show has been playing on my television since the first season aired. At least 3 days a week it’s the first sound I hear when arriving home from work.

Knowing that Al's last name is actually Wilson makes me love them both even more. It's impossible to imagine that Jill, Wilson and AL were all supposed to be different actors. This was one of the few shows my family watched together before they divorced. And the last thing I watched with my Dad before he passed. Not to be a downer. This show is special to me

Yeah I always thought that too. As Al Borland he comes across as so so nice and just very very likeable. Seems like he is also that way in real life.

His character was always so calm. Tim would do stuff you would think would infuriate someone, but Al was always calm. Never saw him angry or raise his voice.

@@kmacksmcdonald6475 You know what, that's probably what I was so drawn to. I knew nobody like that in my life, everyone usually made big deals of nothing around me.

I absolutely love Home Improvement. I’ve started to rewatch the series on DisneyPlus. I just wish Disney would consider remastering the programme in high definition, as it’s still an amazing programme to watch. Plus, I’m so glad that Richard Karn worked throughout the series. Such an awesome actor and really enjoyed all his interactions with Tim :)

What a treat. And to answer Rick's question at 27:02, yes, Tim did in fact have have an episode centered on Randy's girlfriend, who has a profound interest in cars. It gives us a glimpse into what the dynamic would look like between Tim and a daughter. Home Improvement is very near and dear to me. I watched it growing up and I continue to watch it to this day. Every morning, in fact. It's what I start every day to. Not just the characters but the house. I even have the same Edward McKnight Kauffer paintings throughout my home. And I'm wearing a Binford Tools shirt today! Obviously, it's my favorite show of all time. But more than that, there's something almost tangible about it that's beyond words. It's comforting and timeless. "Thank you" doesn't suffice.

Matt, you worked on Roseanne? Did you work with Mark Rosewater?

At some point, around season 5, Tim quit introducing Al with snippy digs at the beginning of each tool time episode. Was that a studio level decision? Political correctness in its infancy ?
