There’s a reason the History Channel has produced hundreds of documentaries about Hitler but only a few about Dwight D. Eisenhower. Bad guys (and gals) are eternally fascinating. Behind the Bastards dives in past the Cliffs Notes of the worst humans in history and exposes the bizarre realities of their lives. Listeners will learn about the young adult novels that helped Hitler form his monstrous ideology, the founder of Blackwater’s insane quest to build his own Air Force, the bizarre lives of the sons and daughters of dictators and Saddam Hussein’s side career as a trashy romance novelist.
New episodes twice a week on iHeartRadio.

That intro, might be, the single best explanation of Robert Evans' Chaos Gremlin energy I've ever heard. Taking a part in a coup in a foreign country..... amazing.

Fred Thompson didn't just serve, he was literally the Congressman who introduced the fact that Nixon had recorded everything in the Watergate hearings.

"The Devil's Chessboard: Allen Dulles, the CIA, and the Rise of America's Secret Government" by David Talbot is recommended. It's embarrassing there is a large airport named after John Foster Dulles (brother of Allen), but given the large number of three letter agency contractors surrounding that airport perhaps it is appropriate.

The blame for a massive chunk of the misery inflicted upon the world by the United States can be laid at the feet of these two men.

Arguably all of the harm inflicted by a certain failed Austrian painter can be laid at their feet. They were involved in coming up with the punishing reparations and border changes after WWI that Hitler rode to power.

Also Mexico was in the middle of a civil war when Zimmermann's telegram arrived. There was no way Mexico could do what it asked. Funny side note, the telegram also suggested that Mexico try to convince Japan to leave the Allies and join the proposed war against the US. And Japan had no interest in that because they were happily gobbling up German colonies in the Pacific/China. Another funny note is that a lot of Americans initially didn't believe that Zimmermann could be so stupid as to send that telegram. So Zimmermann actually went out of his way to be like "yes, I definitely did send that." He even went in front of the Reichstag and admitted to it. Like... dude... you had your escape hatch and you were like "nah, I'mma just double down."

I don't want to be mean to Jason, he seems lovely, but i don't think he gets this podcast. The constant interruptions of the narrative to jump around the timeline or highlight really obvious, basic things (to me -- i'm sure there's value to some 15 year-olds listening who are just experiencing non-propagandized US history for the first time, but it's irritating for me) are just off-putting to me.

I'm sorry but Jason detracted from the quality of this episode with his narrative breaking takes and getting ahead on the timeline analysis. Much if which was poor. Think he would be better suited to different format . I found sections of this unlistenable
