Good job. The 1800s sounds brighter, but in a harsh off-putting way. The 8500 was warmer with less noise. Very helpful comparison, thank you!

I've got the XM8500 and have used the XM1800S. To be honest they both sound comparable but the XM8500 doesn't have an off button/switch and that's a big deal. If you're using this for live performances ((like I am) I suggest you go with the XM1800S.In a live performance situation you can't tell the difference between the two. But you'll appreciate the convenience and functionality of an off button. These are almost as good as the Shure SM58 which I've used frequently--in the past. What I miss about the Shure is the excellent bass/treble vocal balance--straight out of the box. The Behringers are a tad bassy--but for the money, they can't be beat.

From what I read the XM1800s are just a XM8500 with a switch so you are dealing with pretty much the same mic. The 3 mic set is a good deal, I wish they sold the XM8500's the same way because I don't want the switch in my application and it would shave another $20 off the price.

Nice comparison! If I were to choose between the two, I would pick XM8500. XM1800 sounds harsh.

XM1800s has more room sound, nice for a 10 dollar mic, i have the xm8500 though, its amazing, super hot, super clear, the elevated freq resp give clarity instead of strangeness

Brilliant. Thank you Toaden K for taking the time to review the mic. I have 13 XM8500's. They are just as good as a Sure SM58. They do have a boost in the low mid frequencies, but thats easy to deal with, with sweepable mid range EQ. Your video here shows to my ears how much sweeter and fuller the XM8500 is compared to the XM1800. Both great for the price, but the XM8500 to me is the best QUALITY VS PRICE piece of music gear i have ever seen.

i did not hear any difference...but the XM1800s has a on off switch so i bought a 3 pack for $60.00 cad....i love em....

Isn't the 8500 and 1800S the exact same mic but one has a switch? That's what I was reading

Did this 7 years ago . . . . I don't remember what I may or may not have done in post. but in this test (which had the mics plugged into my camera at the time, I would have preferred to process it through a field recorder like a zoom instead). They are similar enough to match in post for sure. As if they are the same except the button . . .. if I knew, I forgotten. I know one of these mics was bought for a cheap throw away karaoke mic, and the other was in a 3 pack I got for a gig I had while in college and too broke for something better and before I had people/places I could borrow from.

You never separated them for isolated comparison.

Yes I did, they recorded to two different tracks and I only used 1 track at a time. Whatever label is on the screen is the microphone I was using the audio of at that time.

Thanks, now i rewatched it carefully. Would love to hear some singing comparison. I noticed handling noise was not good on either mic. I found the 1800s a little too harsh on the high mid-boost, the 8500 more smooth. I wish they sold the XM8500 3 pack at a discount price like they do for the 1800s. In fact there is no 3 pack for the XM8500.

I just did a gig where I did sound for several singers at once and a few announcers at a podium. I bought and used the 8500 mics. I could've gotten the 1800's for half the price, but I'm happy with the 8500's. I threw one EV N/D757 in the mix, which is a very good vocal mic, and the 8500's were keeping up very well in the mix.
