My bass drum sounded exactly the same as the non EQ'd so I drove down the church as soon as I heard the difference and watched the video there and made the same changes. AMAZING!!!

I love the boost around 5K. I put my mic on the inside about 3 inches from the beater, and sometimes the sound of the beater takes it to another level. Really loving your channel as I go through your videos. A lot is confirming what I know, but I have also learned a lot as well. THANKS!

Is it possible to combat the the bleed through some really surgical gating? Or is it better to treat the room you are in and then get rid of the shield with an open room? Is that really the best option?

Would you advise the Kick drum having a port hole or not ?

Definitely have a port hole. I’ve used both over the years and I’ve always preferred a kick with a port hole

Hey Jake! Where is the mic placed? How important is mic placement to getting this round, beefy kick?

Great question! This one is a heil pr48 placed about 3/4’s of the mic inside the kick port, pointed sort of up at the beater. That usually gets me a decent balance of actual low end tone from the drum without too much smack coming from the beater. That’s usually where I start if I’m using one mic! 👍

This is not regarding drums but are you using real drums or recording with aux? If so with aux how do you make it because for me I only have few options with aux, gain, eq, and freq

I multitracked live into reaper. Then in reaper made the output of each channel the card input on the console so the signals came back in just like they would in a normal live setting 👍

@@jakerussellaudio Have you ever run into any issues with the x32 and Reaper? Playing back tracks through the x32 used to work great but now I get a lot of crackling a popping. I've tried new cables, changing the input on the computer, and making sure the sample rates are matched up, and increasing the buffer size, but still see the same issue. If I quit and re-open Reaper, it will work for about 5 minutes but then will have the same problem.
