Behringer XR 18: amzn.to/31pxiPI
In this episode, I am talking about the Behringer XAir XR18. Regardless of how portable you need your sound system to be, this thing is an incredible value. I purchased this unit for the simple purpose of taking it to any given location with my powered speakers to lead worship. However, after using the X Air, I would almost put it anywhere. Even for permanent use! As long as I only need 16 xlr inputs. Highly unlikely but you get the point. It's good. Thank you for watching. Please SUBSCRIBE and ring the bell to be updated when new content is released.

Hey little secret for Xr18 & X18 owners only channels 1 and 2 have hi-z inputs for instruments so if you want to use any other channel use a DI if you are using an instrument with passive pickups. Active pickups won't matter as much. But you will lose a bunch of clarity putting and instrument into a line level input without the right impedance.

Thank you very much. It is exactly what i looking for. But sadly that only 2 Channel support hi-z inputs.

I've been running this for a few years now with my band, and it's been awesome. We have it in a small rack case with a furman and an external router, and it's about as plug and play as you can get. We have all our regular venues saved in the settings, and setting up almost exactly the same everywhere, helps with load in/out times. If we play a new place, I can just judge which of our regular venues is the closest match, load that setting, and I have a place to start from, making set up and sound check so much easier. It's honestly life changing in terms of small gigging bands. The investment upfront, with powered speakers and monitors, is pretty steep of course, but reliablily, ease of use, quality of sound, and simplicity is worth it. Seriously. Buy a rack that matches (stacks) with your inear case, and mount any old 5g router into the back of it...... You're golden.

I totally agree. I only used the on-board router for the first week I got my XR-18. Then I got a cheap little $30.00 Netgear tri-band and it always works great. Once you set it up, it always works and it is no hassle at all.

Had to learn this the hard way😅. We were on a small open air worship session with the xr18 and the pastor had no better idea than telling the audience to send a message to their loved ones with their phones🤦🏼‍♂️. I was sitting there, looking at my iPad slowly losing the signal and never found it again.

I found that out on the first and last time I used one. So much cellphone radiation that we lost our connection to the box... and of course, there are no sliders or knobs to override anything. We were dead. I wasn't going to buy an external router and lug around more equipment, so on the way home we stopped at a Guitar Center and purchased a mixer that had real wireless plus powered sliders. Note: When it worked, in rehearsal, it was great. Drop that useless Behringer software, and buy Mixing Station Pro, which is well worth the $6.

My XR18 has given me so much bang for buck, and I still love the tiny form factor. As everyone else has mentioned, get an external router - using only the internal one will burn you sooner or later. Mixing Station is so much better than the iPad app - and is available on Android & iOS. And it *is* the same app across X32 and XR lines. Slightly less pretty, but more comprehensive and utterly configurable.

This box is a God-send. Our church bought this box a few months before the lock down, not knowing what would come ahead of us. We were planning on using it for youth meetings etc, but we ended up using it for Drive-In-Curch in a parking lot at a school, and later for church services outside in a cherry orchard (beautiful location in a valley between mountains). It made it possible for us to have church through the spring, summer and fall. Every Sunday, two services back-to-back, max 50 people, and live streaming. The negative is, like others have noted: the built-in router. Not very strong or sensitive, and if there are other wifi networks around or a radio noisy environment around, it cuts out. So we plugged it into a little Apple Airport Express and set that router up as a local wifi network access point, that worked perfectly. Cudos to Behringer for making such an awesome product!

I've been using it as our main mixer in church for a few years now. We've outgrown it (not enough I/O's) so I am considering the X32 Rack. The XR18 was easy for this "old mind" to get a hold of and transition from our analog mixer. I also have the X Touch Universal hooked up to it for the the "old feel" sliders. It's a great portable or stationary mixer! I do use a "real" router for wireless connections to tablets and cell phones for in ear mixes. You mention the "app". I am using the one from Behringer for the PC and everyone is using Android apps and it works great.

Our church uses this for our youth setup and mobile church like church in the park and/or future daughter works :) such an incredible bang for the buck. Only thing to keep an eye on is the WiFi hotspot goes once in a while so a dedicated router is ideal for ipad or just plugged direct in with a laptop. Also..nice slapping bro!

POWERED SPEAKERS AND AN EXTERNAL ROUTER are your best adds for the XR18. My church uses an old passive speaker/analog amplifier combo with it, and hiss issues have been a pain. The learning curve on using the onboard effects (SO MANY!!! 😁) was a little steep, but I’m finally getting the hang of it. Behringer made a monster. I see why the X AIR series has been on the market so long.

Even though I prefer using real faders and encoders over a touch interface any day of the week, you just can’t argue with how practical this little thing is. I’ve used one for smaller gigs quite a bit and I agree: it’s amazing how much you get for so little money. Traditional analog mixers with 12-24 channels lack all the features that you would need for a more refined sound (for example EQ for tuning the PA to the room anyone???). You get up to four effects to give your band the kind of character it’s supposed to have. And since you’ll usually be using this on smaller stages, you pretty much don’t need DI boxes anymore. Band shows up and tells you "oh there’s that one song where we actually have another acoustic guitar and we forgot to tell you that"? No problem. Plug it right in, no need for a spare DI box. Great stuff. Physical faders are still the way to go for me and 18 channels is pushing what you can reasonably control with a single touch device (even though of course you can connect multiple devices at once and that way get faster access to multiple parts of the mixer). Also the XR line does not have input and output delays. So anything more complex setup will be reserved to higher end mixers. But... come on. For normal small scale setups, you just can’t beat this thing’s value!

Using the X Touch Universal myself. I use a laptop and tablet too. Each has their purpose. The laptop allows much faster adjusting of fx, eq, etc... than the X-Touch. Of course, the tablet allows me to walk about the chapel or go to the stage and help make IEM mixes or troubleshoot. I personally just wished they had a XR24. X32 is more than what I need.

The ipad app is a bit different. I went to the app called Mixing Station . It is much more familiar if you've used the X/M32 boards. Mixing Station is also a bit more customizable. Get even a cheap router. If you get into a church with a wireless access points, it will over power the 2.4 ghz radio that is built into the XR18. With an outboard router, you get the 5 Ghz bands AND you can setup security so people don't try to take over your network while mixing. I use my XR18 for everything from djing to small bands and speaking gigs.

Awesome video, thanks for sharing. I would just like to make two comments concerning this product. I use the table top version of this unit, it is almost identical, (the aux outs are 1/4" instead of XLR). First comment concerns the use of a router. I HIGHLY recommend you use one. Also, configure it so that it cannot be seen by people's cell phones. This will help to ensure your ipad stays connected to the X18. The app will also function better with an external router. The second comment has to do with the function of this unit. It is actually capable of doing some of the more advanced mixing techniques that it's bigger brothers can do. Things like parallel compression and equalization can be done, AND, you can put a multi-band compressor on the main buss if you want. That makes a world of difference on the overall sound if you know how to use one of those. I have been VERY impressed with the X18 that I bought, and I even use it to make multi-track recordings on my laptop of the shows I run sound for. All in all, this is an extremely good piece of gear for the money. Thanks again for making this video, I really enjoyed watching it..!

Hello there, I am torn between a small-ish analog mixer, and one of these XR18 units. This will be for a small venue where I DJ regularly, and will be used for adding open mic nights and Karaoke to what I do there, as well as possibly being used for some live band situations. The XR18 seems like a great option, as it will take up very little space on stage in this small venue, amd still allow for mixing the FOH sound from out front. Curious, some devices I currently use output on XLR, as a balanced line output, similar to the outputs on this unit. Can those balanced XLR line outs be plugged i to the XLR inputs on this mixer, or do they need to plug into the combi-jacks as 1/4" jack inputs ...? I am thinking I may want to have a few short XLR female to TRS cables handy, as well as some TRS-TRS cables. Any insight would be most appreciated.

Hey. Try using mixing station for this mixer insted of the X air app. It is mutch better. You can control with the mixing station app x Air, X33, Wing and other digital boards. The user interface looks just same on every mixer that mixing station supported.

Quick question @Worship Leaders Hangout, can you use in ears from your iPad for monitoring? And can you tweak your own monitor mix from your iPad? Thanks and great video!

That would be amazing but I don’t think so. Yeah I run IEM systems from this and use the app to make changes as needed.

It seems like the behringer xr18 has gone up in price significant. It was going for about 500 new 7 years ago. I see it is selling for 900 now? What's up with that?

Yes but not wirelessly. You would still need to plug the iPad into the XR via XLR or 1/4 inch

I don't think no one is taking about this tho.... There's an active community for this. There's even a 3rd party app for controlling the mixer and David, the developer is very active in his group. I've been using mine for almost a year, we even use it for live streaming

Oh yeah there is a KZfaq video floating around of a guy who made a midi interface for having a mute button on the unit it could be programmed to do pretty much whatever you want. the Barringer forms has active community as well. And poking around I've read about people making like cough buttons that communicate over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth there's control box with programmable buttons and an Arduino tons of fun stuff you can do with this.

Is this good for studio recording? I am looking for something to record in the little studio I have, and possibly expanding to a bigger recording business out of my house.

I haven’t personally used it for this, but I have several friends who swear by the X-air and X-32 live. They would work for the studio and provide a nice amount of preamps for the price if that’s something you’re needing. Although, I might suggest something like the Clarett 8 Pre interface instead for that purpose as a great entry level interface. I personally use RME gear but they are more expensive to get into.

I have been looking at this mixer for a while. The question I have is can you playback tracks remotely from the mixer using a USB stick? I sometimes do shows that just require playback and if I'm not on stage with this unit then I need to either run inputs from a CD player or playback device or do a remote cue from the ipad if possible.
@charlschuck6
@charlschuck6 3 жыл бұрын
If you want from the stick it’s posible only in xr12/16 and you’ll have to configure to wav format and record directly to the drive now I prefer the bigger xr18 has more combo jacks but cost abit more but you can stream music directly from a computer so it could be with out converting anything hmm and have a recording bigger option . My xr12 and xr18 work great but the xr12 sometimes doesn’t want to read the files or record I haven’t gone to repair as I’m out of warranty but I don’t use that feature I when I could go wireless buying a Bluetooth to any channels and your hands free heheh this is cheaper option and not having to convert files ( using a pc)

@@charlschuck6 Thanks for the info! I later found that out after doing some extensive researching. I wound up going with the SoundCraft Ui16! I liked the fact that the Ui's interface is web browser based so no one is bound to an app (works on any device)! and has track playback from USB in all formats! The bummer is all but the RCF M18 still have an issues with the WiFI routers.

Agree....one of the most amazing pieces of gear I've owned. Check out all the effects included.....Can you tell me if you figured out how to chain insert effects on a single channel
@skullhqx
@skullhqx 3 жыл бұрын
Insert is always a single fx per channel. Using the fx busses you can do parallel fx. If you want to do serial, the option would be to loop back the outputs to another input. This will cost you connections though. Another option could be to route a channel that has an inserted fx to an fx bus.
@jeffmilkey
@jeffmilkey 3 жыл бұрын
@@skullhqx Thanks Skull...that's what I thought....kind of sucks. Using for some guitar songs it would be nice to make this an alternate pedal board with some chained effects. Parallel it is.... Cheers from Moon Dog.
@skullhqx
@skullhqx 3 жыл бұрын
@@jeffmilkey Well, at least some of the FX units are double, like reverb -and- delay. And you can do the options as I mentioned above. Personally I run synths into the XR18 and they have their own FX or I use multi-pedals, for more hands-on tweaking. I actually do not use the build in FX most of the time.
