I may be the only one that feels this way, but I feel like The Weeknd does a great job with balancing mystery & intrigue . He has the talent, and the look. The fact that he worked with many other successful artists, but didn’t do interviews, made people want to know more about him.

Bryson Tiller lowkey perfected this mystery persona early on in his career. After "Trapsoul" took off, he did interviews without showing his face but people already knew how he looked so it worked. He kept it going for a while due to his introverted personality, but now he's embraced being a bit more out there.

Best video ever. I definitely got the two mixed up. I have felt for so long that these artist are too open nowadays. Their music isn’t that special and they themselves aren’t either (imo) because we see them every single day, their daily lives, photoshoots, etc. But with artists like Frank, Bey, Sade, Rihanna, their music feels differently because of their mystique-ness and I have vowed that as I grow my fan base, this is what I will remain. Pinkpantheress (and other mystique/mystery artists) does this by having people run fanpages for her, sending unreleased music to fan pages, and sending pictures to fan discords where her fans are ALWAYS talking about her Also has mystery tiktok accounts where she posts snippets outside of her main account The following is a story that will help some understand more in-depth. Usually I introduce myself to everyone when working at a new restaurant. Helps people know who I am and that I'm about my work as well. But this time I didn't. This time I only focused on having a few key people that I joked around with, had fun with, and genuinely talked to. Later on in the night, I see a small group of female co-workers giggling and looking at me as I work. One of the managers who was talking with them called me over and asked me a question. I don't remember what the question was, but I told a joke and they all started giggling again. And then I went back to my work. One of my people said to me "Ladies man!" to which I just gave a smirk, and I could feel that people were all the more interested in who I was because of it. Real ones will understand what I'm saying by all of this.

another thing to consider too, and i'm sure there's mad points on this, is the desire to actually have a music career over "wanting to make great music or art" - which overlap in some ways but have completely different financial and circumstantial outcomes. i often find that british and UK artists in all genres tend to lean towards a side of not sharing as much in the way american/western artists function (i'm thinking artists off the XL recordings roster, and similar but i know there's more) - There's a certain headspace and luxury that euro artists have in the sense that they can be much far more removed from the information/social landscape and less concerned about their relevancy than american artists do. it's a much broader conversation, mostly about money, culture, social landscapes, etc, how much is enough for some artists to live comfortably, etc. this video is great nonetheless

Despite having multiple hits, platinum albums and singles, and awards, it seems like there is still a lot of people that don't know who he is. Of course Kendrick works as an example but Biggie, Nas, Jay Z, DMX even, they weren't mysterious but they generated more interest than they satisfied if that makes sense. You wanted to get more.

Buckethead is a good example, He has an entire backstory, and we only know his backstory because of other musicians he performed with who sang about him, He never spoke, so he relied on singers telling stories about him, Buckethead, the robotic guitar god, seeking revenge on colonel sanders for killing his chicken brethren, he brings a Santa bag full of toys for his audience (I'm butchering this, but this is about how wacky his backstory is, But he was also a virtuoso, his unique sound developed by researching scales that most closely resembled a malfunctioning computer noise, and learning to tap with all four strumming fingers,) You need your style/character, develop your unique sound, become a virtuoso, Then, appear and perform for bands, and be memorable. Have social media, maybe put your name on your costume, Honestly if you're a virtuoso, people would rather see you in a goofy costume anyways. Don't believe me? Look at the top female pop artists, they are 25% silicone and wearing garbage....lol
