I'm Bi-racial, and the sad thing I found out from when I grew up, I asked myself, "why is this an important subject?" When your a mixed race, you might find out that you don't need to be like one or the other because its hard to fit in at times. You just need to act yourself.

YASS this gives me so much life to finally see us mixed people be recognized and viewed as what they are, valid.

My wife is Latina (mostly native south American), and we have three children. We never put it in their minds that daddy was one race and mommy was another. They just know that Dad's family was Irish and speak English, and Mom's family is Colombian and speak mostly Spanish. It was never, "Dad's white and Mom's Hispanic" as if we were two different species. I think that this approach was beneficial to them. They don't feel conflicted, and they don't feel as if they are "different". Each one of our children identifies him/herself through what he/she is as an individual (their likes, dislikes and achievements), not through what races their mom and dad are.

America's the type of place where if you are even partyly black you are considered black. I myself was raised by my white mother and i think it would seem a little disrespectful for me to say i am black or to even say that i am white. I am both so more people should be proud and aknowledge both sides of themselves regardless what those are.

I stick with my own mix people, it's less complicated and a mix person can understand the prejudice we go through plus I think mix people are beautiful.

I wish I could shield my multiracial son from the negativity associated with this issue. I will pray for the individuals that really appeal to segregationists views. They are the ones who were hurt by this same evil and as a result has adopted an ethnocentric view of the world. I'm half white, half black and I'm pretty sure a lot of people think I'm Hispanic. There's not really any such thing as race, just people who look different and have different cultures. People (specifically americans) usually think too hard sometimes when it comes to race.

My dad is black, white, Hispanic and NA mixed. My mom is black and NA mixed. I have wavy/curly/straight hair and grayish brown eyes that change colors. My daughter is darker than me with wavy and silky hair. I'm classified as multiracial and my kid...they just don't know lol

I get mistaken for Italian more than anything!The other races I get mistaken for are half white and half mexican,half Spanish and half White, Native American, half White and Half Native America. Once I was mistaken for Hawaiian and Korean. I was a military brat and military wife, when I lived in Greece people thought I was Greek,when I lived in the Azores people thought I was Portuguese.I lived in Australia for two years and the Aborigine people would stare at me alot and in some parts of California the Indian people from India would stare at me hard. I figured they were staring to try to figure out what race I was. When I lived down south a lot of the older people knew I was a black and white mix,but there was a lot of people down south that didn't know what race I was. I remember them putting white on my school forms and I would laugh to myself.

I’m light skinned and I’m not mixed race, what I wish people stop doing is pushing me to identify as mixed when I have two black parents, not everyone who is lighter skinned is mixed. They need to do this on light skinned people who are not mixed race bc we need support and love too!

It can be frustrating sometimes because people say that I can’t say I’m half Mexican since I don’t express many Hispanic traits. I have dark hair and dark eyes with olive skin, but most people just think I’m a tan white guy.

I struggle with how I identify in a way that best represents my experience. I am Black and Carib Indian and because I look mostly black I dentify mostly with that side and feel this overwhelming pressure to hide my other side/pretend it doesn't exist for fear of being accused of exaggerating or being anti-black all while still hearing from the same community that (due to my hair texture) because I am not FULLY black that I am not black enough or a real black person. I have looked countlessly for people in a similar space who feel the same as me. It feels like it doesn't exist. I feel like I can't identify with the mixed race/ multi-racial community because I have dark skin and I am not white presenting because this is the media's main portrayal of what being of mixed origin is. It's very lonely and frustrating.

as someone who is multi-racial, I think we (multi-racial peoples) have an advantagesover others who are not. We have been aware and thought deeply about who we are and where we come from since we could see that not everyone around us (parents included) look like we do. If one acknowledges all sides of one's origins and history then we are less likely to get bogged down in black-white arguments.

What is so sad about this to me is that so much of what we fought for during the civil rights movement is being cavalierly dis-guarded and disrespected. My family is filled with diversity. I have white Ancestors on both sides of my family and not that far back. I am brown skinned but don't look African. Most African Americans don't. They have these color codes in South Africa and you had Apartheid. They have these color codes in Brazil and you still have color-ism. It isn't really about wanting to embrace your white side. When it comes down to it it seems to be more about denying the black part. I think on an unconscientious level people know that black is viewed as inferior and don't want to be associated with that. Call me bitter if you want to, but I am old enough to remember the civil rights movement and the fact that a light skinned or multiracial person STILL could not drink from the same water fountain as a white person and it was BLACK people who fought for the right so that we all could. They were black when it was convenient. Now that people have lied to themselves that we are all equal they aren't black anymore. Many of these people are just too dark, with hair too nappy for them to pass for white and maybe that is what the problem is. You think that dark skinned black people hate you? No it isn;t that at all, it is that you are black when it benefits you. When it doesn't you don't want to be associated with black. Obama didn't get elected because he was passing a biracial. He identifies as black. He is not ashamed of that the way that so many of these people are.

Ultimately in life, it doesn't matter what you are, but what you do.

I am proud to be mixed. My mom is half chinese half white, black, middle eastern mix and my dad is black, white and south american native mix. Many of my friends, where I'm from, are mixed (black white, white asian), so this is familiar to us. Of course, sometimes you experience difficulties because of it, but it's great to see other young mixed people bringing it out into the open properly.

I'm Brazilian and I'm multi-racial. I used to live in Montreal and there most white people I talked to told me that I look like an arab (from my perspective, it's the other way around - arabs look like Brazilians, even though our cultures are very different). In Toronto, where I live now, nobody has ever said to me that I look arab. They tell me I'm latino right away (which I'm alright with since Brazil is in Latin America). Arabs complain that people think they're latinos in Toronto.

Entering into a mixed relationship is still dangerous to friendships and family relationships in the US. I was engaged to a mixed lady (it did NOT end due to these issues; I had/have some severe mental health issues to this day that are terminal), and I was seen as a race traitor by many. And this was 2015.

Look at it this way You're able to enjoy Tacos,fried checking, Steaks,spagetty,ect....

Most of the half black people here, look black.. when society sees you they see you as a person of color period. You can choose what you want to be but you look black to many and most. I’m mixed with black and black and I get the same questions asked as if I were biracial but mainly from other black people. Love yourself regardless because society labels you.... regardless of how you “feel” or how you want people to “see you”..

Being biracial/bicultural gives me a broader perspective as I grew up living in The USA and Germany and love that, also it makes me more open minded towards other cultures of people when making friends. I love that I can easily travel in Germany and have connections there as a multinational. 🇩🇪 🇺🇸

I've been at school for the last three to four months :) Learning is much more important than internet conversations during the school year.

Growing up I always dealt with issue when it came down to my race it's like I was always judged and stood out from the black kids that I went to school with since I'm multiracial. I'm mixed with African American, Choctaw, French, and Mexican. But I have a caramel skin complexion and everytime I'm outside or at school I always get asked am I mixed because I guess I don't show enough black features or look black enough and for a long time I felt out of place with my classmates that we're black and I always said that I'm black since I felt that I did look black and it recently took for my mother to sit down with me and have a talk with me about my race and identity for me to finally say yes I'm mixed and I can't really be put in one box and just because I'm mixed I'm still like other black people in some way.

My question is what does it mean multi racial? We are one human race just many cultures and traditions that the human family has developed. Most people would say I am white but that is due to a fractional difference in melanin. I have a grandmother who was native american, relatives from Ireland, England, France, and Bohemia, and who knows Heinz 57 sauce. My wife is from Puerto Rico and there are many cultures that have blended on the island. She has Native American, African, Spanish and Portuguese cultures in her roots. We are all one human race and we can trace all of our roots back to Adam and Eve. We need to love our neighbor as ourselves. We need to appreciate one another's cultures and have love and respect for people no matter where they are from.

I hate how in America we're forced to decide between two sides! White and black make grey NOT black, people. I'm happy to see this video because it brings up a good point about the people in our country and how they view race. I'm tri-racial and that's the way I see myself everytime I look in the mirror. No one understands who I AM yet they try to by putting me in a box and calling me a sell out if I refuse to pick a side! We really need to ask ourselves "why are there sides and who made them?"

My mums Greek born in Greece and moved to Australia and my dads Samoan born in New Zealand moved to Australia. I identify Greek Samoan Australian but because I have fair skin I’m constantly being told what race I am. And being told because I’m Greek I can’t be Samoan and vice versa. i'm half japanese half mexican italian spanish.. i look very hispanic i pass for full mexican and i don't care because i'm proud to be hispanic but at the same time i've struggled to relate to the asian side and you'd only really know if you took the time to really look at the shape of my eyes .. being mixed race is good somedays and not so good others but it's not something we can change so i guess all of us have to accept ourselfs as much as society does

From one multiethnical person to another, it is possible to embrace all of your heritage and make it work. So it depends, which tribe are your ancestors from?

I think it's lovely that so many people are mixed. It really colours the world even more, and it's beautiful. My friend is mixed black & puetro rican, and it really doesn't effect her at all. It depends on where you grow up, I suppose. I grew up around hispanics, blacks and whites, and I always see mixing. So. It's beautiful :)

I'm Japanese and German-American. I identify more with my Japanese roots since I was raised overseas for many years before coming to America. The term "Happa" is commonly used to describe those who are Japanese and another race. It is in fact derogatory: it's as offensive as calling Blacks the N-word. So don't use it.
