I just got a confirmation for an open casting call tomorrow via Zoom. It's for Stranger Things 5. I signed up on a whim and I have no idea what to expect! I haven't done any acting besides local theatre as a kid. I'm doomed as the dodo 😂.

@BelgicaPaola yes, as an extra as far as I know. Not sure how it will all work. I wasn't expecting a call back since I'm out of state, but they still wanted me to do the zoom call. I'm expecting them to look at me and hang up 😂

Thank you! A bit naive but I wanted to audition for JYP ent (a Kpop company) till I researched and figured out the trainee life wasn’t for me at all. I’m gonna try to get something going with acting instead. Good luck to everyone else too :)

I have a question if you don't mind :) Should I study more than one acting technique and then with all that knowledge you kinda create your own technique? Or should I just stick to one acting technique example: Stanislavski technique? Thank you :))

Hi :) it really depends on what you prefer. You can look into all the acting techniques you can find and then when you really connect with one, you can do that one more. Be mentally prepared to do something outside of the casting call preparation. Lots of casting directors will throw curve balls at you to see how you behave. I went to an audition for a hockey show and the casting director asked me to do a scene as if I was a professional wrestler. Ha! LOL!

hey...if the casting call is not limited to a specific location and you happen to get the part, will transport and accomodation be catered for during the filming time?

Usually yes, but if they do, it will be stated in the casting call so make sure to read it all. If it does not explicitly say that, then no. You have to be careful as a lot of non-union jobs will accept people from anywhere that are able to work as "local hire" which basically means you will not have any travel/lodging/meals out of work hours comped.

Hi Keyra! Thanks for asking, I will make a video with more details. I will break it down. A casting call is posted by a casting director and they choose to have it available for only representative (agents & managers), only actors, or reps and actors. Then, on the casting call, they should include ALL info (I will go over this in the video). When you film your self-tape (audition you film at home) you will edit it and send it through their preferred service like Dropbox, casting website ect. Then you should honestly just forget about it and keep auditioning because they will not get back to you unless you have been selected for another round of auditions or have been cast. Also, the ratio of new actors booking something is pretty low so maybe expect to not book your first 20 or so depending on the projects you are auditioning for. Hi I have a question if there is a live casting call do you actually go live in-front of the people or do you record and if so do you have to go in person

I have experienced both! For in-person auditions, there are usually people involved in the project present to see and direct it, and they also record the audition for further review. Did that answer your question? I am not sure if I understood your question correctly. 😊

Hey! To be yourself and if you have any questions about what to prepare, ask them. They are usually happy to give info! Make sure lighting and sound is good. I have lots of videos on how to do self-tape auditions that explains how you should be framed and such.

Hi 😊 well, first off Trust your gut feeling. Then do research on the company before your audition. You can see what their production company name and what projects they have done in the past. If you see an actor tagged them, talk to them and see what their experience was.

Hello Tonya, they sometimes share casting calls there but they tend to share more resources and info about the casting world than actual auditions.

What editing program do you use?

For editing auditions, I use whatever is available. You don't need anything fancy. iMovie on your laptop, or Rush on your phone. I also sometimes use premiere Pro but that's overkill.

Hi Michelle, did they provide a script to prepare? I haven't done zoom auditions where other actors were watching. You will likely be in a waiting room with your camera on and mic off until it's your turn with the exception of doing an audio check.

Hey, I don't have any children and have never used them but I highly suggest going directly to an agency with talent under 18 so you can have someone guide you. Adult casting is very different than minor casting.

How do I know if a open casting call is legit?

Hey! Mostly a bunch of googling and looking on IMDB. In general you want to make sure that it is a real project and if they are asking for payment, it is usually not a good sign. Sometimes, they will ask you to submit through something like actors access or casting workbook which might require $3 or so to submit.

I don't have any experience as an actor coming from another country. I know there are global casting calls you can submit to. But I just don't have any tips from that perspective since I didn't experience it.

Hello! Unfortunately, you have to be okay with using casting websites if you ever want to audition for professional jobs as that is the only way to apply, even if it is a big open call, you have to submit through there. Casting websites help agents and casting directors organize submissions. I am an actor and content creator and don't have any business set up with providing casting calls although I do often make videos of opportunities I see to bring awareness. 😊 If you do ever send an unsolicited email to casting, they will delete it 99.99% of the time.

Of course, I do my best to reply to all comments. 😊 I have never done foreign castings so I honestly don't know how it works but I do know that casting directors that cast in many countries do mention foreign casting websites. Being that it is so convenient, it is likely the same everywhere.
