In today's issue, we will walk along the historical center of the city on Knyaz Mihail Street, visit the former building of the Ministry of Defense of Yugoslavia, visit the Only Mosque in Belgrade, the Bayrakli Mosque and climb the Belgrade Fortress
Belgrade is one of the most ancient cities in Europe.
The city itself (under the name Singidunum) was founded by the Celtic tribe of the Scordisci in the 3rd century BC.
In 878, it was first mentioned as Belgrade. In 1403 it became the Serbian capital.
The Bajrakli Mosque in Belgrade, the only one in the city, is in operation.
Once upon a time there were over 100 mosques in Belgrade and many other places of worship. However, only one monument of Islamic religious architecture has survived to this day, the functioning Bayrakli Mosque, which is located on Gospodar Yevremov Street, house 11.
The oldest building, the Kalemegdan fortress has historical and cultural significance, its roots date back to the era of the Roman Empire.
Built of earth, stone and brick, the fortress has stood at the confluence of the Danube and Sava rivers for more than 1,000 years.
During its long history, Kalemegdan has experienced a lot of raids and attacks by invaders, destruction, several reconstructions and restorations. Under its walls, a settlement developed and grew, founded in the Middle Ages and later becoming the city of Belgrade.
