We made our third Austria winter trip this February.
Our main destination this year was Innsbruck again, but we spend the first day at Karres, next to Heli Austria, Martin Flugrettung helicopter base.
In the base there was an MD-902 on duty, but in the hangar there were some surprise…
One of these surprises was the Heli Tirol Bell 212 heavy lift helicopter.
The Bell 212 Twin Huey is a two-blade, twin-engine, medium helicopter that first flew in 1968. The 212 is marketed to civilian operators and has a fifteen-seat configuration, with one pilot and fourteen passengers. In cargo configuration the 212 has an internal capacity of 6.23 m³ an external load of up to 2,268 kg can be carried. In addition to military purposes, the type mostly used to air ambulance, air police patrol, border control, firefighting and heavy lifting.
The small brother of the 212 is the Bell UH-1 Huey, one of the most famous helicopter in the world, from Vietnam War.

That would make it a “Bell 412”. Just saying. Beautiful, absolutely beautiful Helicopter! I have 7,000 hours flying Helicopters, over a period of 24 years. Flew the Hughes 300 piston Helicopter and the Hughes OH6A Jet Turbine (or the Hughes 500). Both fly beautifully and are very agile. The OH6A was considered the “CORVETTE OF ALL HELICOPTERS” during the Vietnam War. I flew lots of SAR, Drug Eradication and countless other Mission Types. Saved many lives along the Mississippi River. No greater feeling than to pull someone out of area lakes or sometimes the Mississippi River, although Old Man River is not friendly to anyone. Too many times he had flexed his muscle and claimed another life. Nonetheless, I was blessed to have been in the right place at the right time and had the opportunity to enjoy helping people who had gotten themselves into serious trouble and SAR Team Members and a Co-Pilot were on the scene quicker than all ground units were able to get there. By the Grace of God we never wound up in the drink ourselves. Just wanted to share with y’all folks. Not meaning to boast, but very thankful to be able to share with you and others. Since 8 months my son ( just about 4years of age by next Jan ) is watching this video daily just before sleep... This video is his sleeping music.. By the end if this video, 90% of the days he will sleep.. 10% immediately after this video... Anyway thank you.. This red helicopter is his favorite helicopter.
