Yes SIR. This is a CLASSIC. More than a jewel. I used to watch Mexico City Air Patrol in my early childhood. When I listened to its noise I called mama or dad to carry me to the house terrace to watch it flying by.

Those 47's were great machines. When I was a youngster and in my teens I used to see a lot of them flying around. Cops used them for patrol work, traffic reporters used them, etc. They were flying around everywhere. These days You Tube is the only place I see them. Glad to see there are people keeping them running.

I had no idea until seeing these two birds side by side that there was a difference in the bubble canopies over the model years. I knew they had different landing gear configurations, but never noticed the difference in the shape of the canopy. Very cool. Awesome video. Thank you for posting it.

You're welcome. The Bubble on some early models was only two seats wide, later versions, or it could've been specified on ordering, were three seats wide.

Well, our H-13 was the same machine we flew in training to go to Huey's enroute to Vietnam. The visibility was great and it was a lot of fun to fly. Our instrument training was in the 13 and it was turbocharged and had a nice instrument package but the aircraft was barely tolerable in the hot Alabama sun.

The radio Station here in Louisville, Kentucky had its own traffic spotter in the air, helicopter used was a Bell 47 with the title of Skywatch 84 the radio station is 84 WHAS (840 on the radio dial). Pilot for Skywatch 84 was Dick Gilbert who was an Air Force pilot in his own right, & raising his daughter Candice Gilbert.

Anyone remember the TV series the Whirly Birds, it came out before I was born but I watched it on Saturday mornings in reruns during the late 60's. So many shows that promoted positive role models for kids to emulate in the 60s and 70s now we have reality TV and hip hop.

Bell 47 helicopter has no electronic support. These two pilots are very good. I give them my congratulations. (Excuse me for my bad English language)
@240RobertA10 жыл бұрын
It is my understanding, that the 2 Bell's are privately owned by their individual Pilots, each of whom are also township Police Officers, in Butler County PA, USA. These are not used for patrol, but would be brought out for searches, and public events in support of Law Enforcement, and Aviation, as seen here. I believe the pilot of the blue Bell is a full time Airline pilot, and part-time Police Officer, who was trained in Helicopters by my Instructor, whom is also a Police Officer.
@mssdifesapersonale10 жыл бұрын
240RobertA Thank you, your response is very kind. The two pilots extend my appreciation. Technological support is very important, but it should only be a support, a true pilot must be proficient using hand instruments. I greatly appreciate the U.S. flight schools, because they are very efficient. My best wishes for your future. Hugs from Italy. Antonio Arfé www.inacpo.com

Thanks for your quick reply, 240RobertA. Are you saying you don't see *in the video* what I'm describing? I suppose it could be an optical illusion, but it is very obvious at points throughout your very bright and sharp video. As I said, I have never seen this effect before on any other Bell-47 or other rotorcraft video I have viewed. I actually thought, several times "How is that helicopter flying without a working tail rotor??! If I misunderstood your reply, I apologize.

@KRAZEEIZATION9 жыл бұрын
Hate the way the camera makes the tail rotor look static.
@zumbinisgm10 жыл бұрын
What is going on with the tail rotors barely spinning?? At around 4 mins. and 7 mins., for example. How is that possible? Isn't it supposed to be impossible for the helicopter to fly straight without the counterforce of a fast-spinning tail rotor. Yet these are clearly hardly moving, and almost appear bent out of shape. I've never seen that in any other video of a Bell-47,or indeed any helicopter with a tail rotor in flight. I'm baffled. Please explain!?
@240RobertA10 жыл бұрын
Hi, that must be an optical illusion caused by the built in camera filming speed, and the camera lens. I can assure you, it doesn't appear that way in person. An additional contributing factor to that, may be the first version of the KZfaq Editor, which I earlier got some constructive criticism on, which stabilized some segments, by splicing parts out, and stretching the two ends together causing a sliding and slippery appearance.
@DustyCowdog8 жыл бұрын
It's all about frequency of the scan on the video camera and the speed of the tail rotor... Think about the old days of using a strobe light to time a cars ignition. Total optical illusion.
@toddy25197 жыл бұрын

cat vs dog How many car engines have you seen just quit. These engines are very safe, much more than a Chevy, Ford or any other road vehicle. Don't be afraid of these machines, the maintenance is very strict and you do a visual inspection before every flight.

David Smith yeah I was at an airshow and they had tanks and etc. Well they had a Huey and if you are really high and the engine fails, the blades will still spin from the wind. If you are a good pilot, you can use the rpm to save your ass when your really close to the ground.
@tiaonderdonk96758 жыл бұрын
+cat vs dog Any engine can just quit.. anything can happen to any helicopter/plane/car/boat/anything.. this is a amazing of a helicopter just because it may not look the best or may not look the safest it really is a amazing helicopter and some of these u can find pretty cheap and work just as good as other helicopters.

+Martin Pescador That is a 1965 Brantly B2B. I got about 21 Hours in it, N888CF, and another Brantly the school had, since the time I filmed this.You may occassionally hear comments that a Robinson R22 isn't a real Helicopter. That's not true about the Robinson, but it can accurately be applied to the Brantly! This is multiple short videos linked together using the KZfaq editor feature as it was at the time of filming.
