Күн бұрынThe fourth and final tower of the YCRA Outing to Birmingham.
St Martin-in-the-Bullring in Birmingham have a tremendous sounding ring of sixteen hung on a two tier frame with bells 3,4,8,12,14 on the top and bells 1,2,5,6,7,9,10,11,13,15,16 on the bottom. This makes the bells on the top louder outside than they should be giving an uneven sound. Nonetheless, the tenor sounds loud and sonorous outside and I would say it's much better than Bow due to the wooden shafted clapper being more satisfactory. Inside the bells are crisp and clear in the ringing chamber and they go extraordinarily well!
The bells were cast by the Whitechapel Bell Foundry in 1990 and 1991 and are cast to the Whitechapel Mark 2 Profile. In this video I ring the tenor very well and manage to stand it second time! I hope you enjoy these bells as much as I did! Enjoy the video!

I have been up there but only heard them ringing on 12. I have not rung them myself.

It was alright. You needed to hold up and keep close. I rang the tenor and it went like a 13cwt bell.

oh pinner are pretty!! it seems the problem here is with the front four... in every recording they sound like broken glass.. ballymena's trebles cast a few years before have the same problem

They're a great twelve, if you really don't like the sound of the front four, don't ring on them.

I would scrap the front 4. They are shrill. However with the tenor having a wooden shafted clapper it certainly has a good boom outside! Not a good profile but the tenor is an excellent bell!

@@RingerThomas 16s seem far too OTT, the only point in having that many bells would be to give a light ring of 12 with extra semitones. This is why St Martin’s are my least favourite ring in Birmingham.

@@benkeating4836 Sometimes novelty supersedes acoustics though. There are so few rings of 16 (for a good reason), so you gotta have some somewhere.
