In this video I demonstrate how to make a simple bell rope key fob using paracord. A similar design was demonstrated by Mikko Snellman, this one is adapted to paracord.

I'm in the coast guard on an 87 ft patrol boat and our bell didn't have a rope so I used this tutorial to make one

I made this using a thimble, 3 strands, used a separate cord for a turks head in place of the Mathew walker, and ended with a 6 point start knot. I also added an anchor charm. It was for my brother in the USN. Came out beautiful!

I made it, it's lovely, thanks! I had some initial difficulty with the Matthew Walker knot, I've only made two strand ones in the past and dressing the four strand one is a beast, but one I've now tamed. Your method of tying the footrope knot is excellent.

I've now made several, and can do the whole thing without the video, I'm kind of hooked. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with them all.....

I've now made lots out of 2 mm waxed cotton cord, each with a small bell attached to the footrope knot at the end. We have loads of little bells for the Christmas tree, which have lost their cords. Now they have flashy hangers bell cord type hangers instead. (Inverted bell rope hangers...) I got a book of possible bell ropes for Christmas so am soon going to wean myself off producing this design...

I used a 1.58mm; 1/16", which is a bit snug for 2 strands of 550 paracord, even if it _is_ tightly twisted. If I had it to do over, I'd go with something around 3mm; 1/8".

Mark.. great tutorial. I have followed yourself and Mikko Snellman. He makes a floating key fob, with hard foam.. do you think you could do a similar tutorial, showing in a bit more detail, how to do this. Mikkos tutorial is quite fast... i cannot make out the start... many thanks....

Mark.. great tutorial.. i have used this, with a cork and micro cord.. i would really like to see you do one similar to Mikko... the same as the bell rope key fob.... your videos are great... maybe you could think about it....

Absolutely. It looks like fun. What he is doing as far as I can see is tying wall knots. If you flipped his work around, they would basically be crown knots. Mark

How do you prevent the thimble from rotating in the twisted loop. No matter how tight I get it, it can still be twisted. Call me a purist, but using super glue, or any other adhesive, is out of the question. Thanks!

Hey Jack, thank you for the question! I have not had that issue myself. The trick is to make the loop small at the start. After tying the Matthew Walker knot I usually have a hard time jamming the thimble it. So it stays put. I hope that helps! Mark
